UK Chiristmas No 1

Back in the days before X factor took over the world, the Christmas No 1 was always the most coveted spot for any artist.

We have been dominated by the X Factor winners song ruling the Christmas charts since 2004 but this year there appears to be a bit of a backlash.

So, what do you think .... Will Alexandra maintain X Factor's dominance ( which seems likely) or do Jeff Buckley and Peter Kay stand a real chance ....

Personally I would love Peter Kay to get it just because the song is so Christmassy and so catchy ...

Here are the contenders ....

1) ... Peter 'Geraldine McQueen' Kay

2)... Alexandra Burke

3) ... Jeff Buckley

I hope Jeff Buckley gets it, but I suspect it will be the X-factor clone. :# At least people are more aware of Buckley's work now. And Leonard Cohen's original is apparently in the charts as well. I hope Simon Cowell is visited by the ghost of Christmas Past (Noddy Holder), and given a right good festive haunting. The ****er deserves it.

Should explain, Lady Rose is a devotee of Chiri, an obscure Indian cult obsessed with Rolex's, Whisky and Sin.

Actually, a shoe-in for a no 1 would be Russell Brand singing Hallelulja, lyrics fit a bit too well in fact!

This is my favourite Jeff Buckley track, the painfully lovely 'Everybody Here Wants You.'

Replace whiskey for bourbon and add cheesy songs/movies and you're there :))

Forget to mention Leona who's currently No 1 and still selling well.

I just bought Peter Kay's new single - the song is strangely addictive!

I'm actually more annoyed by the "other" version of Hallelujah entering the charts. At least Alexandra's version is a genuine public groundswell based on a concerted and well orchestrated publicity campaign; somehow we're expected to believe that the Great British Public's response to the "original" version is a fight for real music, when actually it's as sheep like and insincere as the other version. It's like people thinking that watching Rick Astley on YouTube is some sort of phenomena, instead of just a desperate urge to be "in". If you wanted to strike against the forces of banality gaining the Christmas no. 1, how about buying some Devo, or Cradle of Filth, or something?
