2008 Collecting Hi's & Low's

Hi

Just thought as the year is starting to draw to an end it would be intesting to see what tyou guys and girls think were the high and low points of being a collector of all tings 007 in 2008.

The high point I'm going to start the ball rolling with is the James Bond Car Collection which has created some excellent models on a cross section of automotive history from the 007 films at value for money prices, (whic more than ever seems to be important as we all are having to watch spending what with the credit crunch and all.

The low point I would say has been the general lack of all things QoS :#

I look forward to hearing your replies and this could also include individual items that you have had - so please feel free to tell us all about how you got a vintage toupee from a car boot sale in Slough only to find it was Sean Connery's from Thunderball!

Have a great Christmas a smashing New Year and remember:

A Bond Fan isn't just for Christmas. They're for life!

High Point - the expectation of a new MR golden gun.
    my personal low:

collectors linking the GG to Moonraker ;) just kiddin... :D

    My personal highs:

    - A TND Omega light-up watch
    - Devil may care Bentley limited edition book
    - a Rolex Submariner non-date with the kind help of a forum member here
    - The James Bond car collection
    - arlingtonbeach's post on the Forum here, that the QoS sunglasses are infact done by Tom Ford.

    My personal lows:

    - The lack of affordable memorabilia for QoS
    - The entire AS OP-TF sunglasses story
    - The emotional and very personal rude never-ending debates about fake watches here
    - The QoS Polos, "inspired" by sunspel, but made by TF but not available in the screen-colour
    - The bankrupcy of Corgi, even I admid, that there has not been very much exciting in the last years from them.
    - The cancellation of the MR Golden gun.
President of the 'Misty Eyes Club'.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

    High's:
    1) All the tie projects done with Magnoli! Never thought I'd see the light of day for some of these ties (particularly the Goldeneye tie and the TWINE boat tie)

    2) Getting the Bilbao herringbone tie from T&A!

    3) Getting the T&A bow-tie at a great deal thanks to BasildonBond!

    4) Though the Levi's 501 turned out to be false, it did spark a passion for them again... I hadn't worn them in ages but they turned out to be great and I've brought several pairs now.

    5) On a more personal note, winning T&A's website contest and getting a free white dress shirt from them!

    Lows:
    1) Not sure if it originated this year, but I hate the redesign of the Omega SMP

    2) All things TF.

    Hi's

getting the Rings Blue Guns Walther PPK/S replica, now I have a replica that looks closer to the real gun.

The Bond on Set fliming QOS book, Greg Williams did an excellent job photographing behind the scenes and Mark Foster's comments were very insightful.

James Bond silhouette logo t shirt that I purchased on clearence from Hot Topic, after all a man can never have enough t shirts LOL.

QOS video game for Nintendo Wii , it may not be the best video game based on the films but it is really fun to play.

    Lows:
    little QOS merchandise

Having to watch my collecting budget while I am attending college, but I am getting by by keeping some small collectibles and the films on DVD in my dorm room.

I'm a long time lurker on this site and dont post very often but as its christmas here's my 2p worth.

My high this year was picking up a pair of Ryder 3's. IMHO well worth the money and will last a very long time. It's been great checking the site every day in the hope someone has found something new!

Low's = Tom Ford, the price makes them out of reach for the common man.

    Merry Christmas everybody.

Do you mean that Marks and Spencers have a pair of Casino Royale like sunglasses? Can you show us them on their website or advise what the product ID number is please?

The most memorable moments for me have been:

    1) Unexpectedly buying the last "Red Box" copy of Devil May Care, of the three copies that Waterstones in Oxford had had in.

    2) The Ian Fleming anniversary Royal Mail stamps series

    3) The continued success of the James Bond Car Collection

    4) Quantum of Solace

    Low points:

    1) The lack of Quantum of Solace licensed merchandise

    2) Being unable to see a definite end to the James Bond Car Collection (I will need a bigger house at this rate!)

    Happy New Year, all,

    Steve
