"Taken" Movie w/ Liam Neeson

I just saw a commercial on television for a movie called "Taken" starring Liam Neeson. It appears that his character's daughter is abducted by traffickers while in Paris and he as a former spy hunts them down in a search for her.

The trailer looked very good. There was even a scene that echoed the Roger Moore scene in Paris where he jumps from the bridge to the boat (interrupting the wedding). Except this one takes place at night.

Now that QOS has left the building (actually no where to be found in my city) I am looking forward to the release of this film. Comes out January 30th.

It's worth seeing if only for Neeson's performance. Although he is hampered by an American accent, (the guy's Irish, let him speak that way in an action movie) the fight sequences are brilliant.

The fight scenes are indeed brilliant. Surprisingly so, considering that Neeson is in his mid 50's and doesn't really have a martial arts background. I also felt that, American accent or not, his performance was unsurpisingly very good. The scene in which he threatens the trafficers (which was undoubtfully in the trailer) was terrific IMO.

I do have alot of problems with the film, however I agree with JD that it's worth seeing for Neeson and the fight scenes. (I would also say Famke Janssen but she's completely wasted.)

It came and went without making much of a splash over here a few months back. Didn't get to see it.

It came out here last year, however recently it's been advertised on DVD. In fact, only tonight I saw an ad for its DVD/BluRay release, and now I'm posting on a thread about it. ;)

Not exactly a frsh premise, some guy with killing "skills" heads out to take on the bad guys, killing them all. Maybe a DVD rental, but not worth a cinema visit IMO.

I thought it was supposed to be appalling; the Empire review trashed it last year.
The premise is a bit nasty too- an American warns his daughter about going to Europe, his fear is apparently well founded as it's full of gangs and pimps who abduct any innocent US citizens. Oddly I think Luc Beeson was involved with it, wasn't he?

Yup, his company Eurocorp mass produces these kind of thrillers. How much involvement he has in these productions I don't know. I think it's a case of him providing a story outline and letting some hack get on with it. I wish he'd go back to directing again. Angel-A and Arthur and the Minimoy's don't count. They were awful.

not to nit pick Dan but Liam was an Amateur
boxing champ back in the day and is an honorary part of the KFM family after training with Andy and Justo for Batman begins. But you're right considering his age he's in good nick, I certainly would'nt want a right hander off him!

Actually, you're not nit picking at all. ;) I didn't know that about Neeson; in retrospect after seeing the film, it doesn't surprise me.

Just got back from seeing this one---today is Loeff III's eleventh birthday, and this is the one he wanted to see B-)

We loved this picture---great action, great suspense, great performances. A few plot and credibility gaps, but the style and momentum of the piece carries it across each of these with agreeable assurance.

I'm going to post a review in the films forum. Anyone who likes a good action film should see this one.

Well, I just got back from seeing Taken and I was quite taken with it.

I thought Neeson gave a great performance. I don't know that his accent in this was American. I thought I could pick a little Irish coming through but that did not detract from the film. The fight scenes were great. The camera work was somewhat of the Jason Bourne / Quantum of Solace variety.

I think he would have been a great choice for Bond 15 or 20 years ago.

Shatterhand gives this movie two broken thumbs up!

Yeah, I'd say there was a hint of American...but he mostly just sounded like old Liam to me ;) As far as I'm concerned, he's like Sir Sean. Who gives a s**t about his accent; let's watch him work B-)

Haha. I concur. I recall a comedian hypothetically joking about the director of Hunt For Red October trying to get Sir Sean to speak with a Russian accent (like the other actors...Sam Neil, et al) and Connery blows up at him and says, "Like hell! I'm not going to talk like them. You make them sound like me!"

I find it quite bizarre that Australians saw this film early last year, and Americans are only able to see it now. Usually it is Australia who is well behind when it comes to the release of films. ;)

This movie would have been below average if not for Qui-Gon Jinn aka Liam Neeson who was superb! Such fun watching him raise hell all throughout Paris!!! :D

I didn't realise this film had taken so much money. It's been a huge worldwide hit apparently.

Deservedly, so, in my opinion. A very good genre film; hits the target.

Actually I saw the movie a couple of days ago. Not bad, but so efficient it's almost mechanical. Daughter gets kidnapped in Paris; Dad goes to Paris to get the bad guys; Dad knocks 'em all off. Simple as that. Well made and Liam Neeson is terrific (despite his usual dodgy American accent) as a character who's far more Jack Bauer than James Bond.

For me it's Neeson who raises this picture to the next level. I hardly notice his accent; sounds 80% Irish to me {:)

I will own this one when it hits disc.
