Will history vindicate George W. Bush?

Well, the President of the United States is set to leave office in 2 or so days and it is clear that he would be leaving with one of the lowest approval ratings in American history among Presidents, at roughly 20%-30%. However, this is mostly due to the Iraq War, which remains unsolved, and the Subprime Morgage recession, which he his started to deal with by stimulus packages for the banks to help keep the economy afloat(the crisis was caused by people being too greedy and taking out more than they could pay back).

If you really take his stuff in the last 8 years into perspective, such as keeping the US safe since 9/11, and helping the American economy rebound after the dot com burst in 2000 via tax cuts, plus turning Iraq into a democracy (not now, but I'm sure in 20-50 years time we would look at Iraq as a major ally), he could easily rank up there with Washington, Lincoln, FDR, and Reagan.

I'm sure many British people would have an opinion on Iraq.

    Ummmm..yeah...not so much.

Those other men were men of principle. Bush is all for his people ($$$$) and everyone else can drown like the people of New Orleans.

Or perhaps never. I love politics, and I love discussing it, but not on a website which I enjoy coming to as a form of relaxation. Political discussions always become ugly, especially over sensitive issues such as this. Couldn't we discuss the politics of Bond instead?

And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

Jamesbond59, we try to avoid political talk here, because--going by past experience--people tend to not discuss the issues calmly and civily: they become nasty partisan slug-fests, and so we've deemed it best to keep politics out of AJB. Please talk about Bond--or Batman--or your aunt's kittens--but leave politics to another site.
