Casino Royale Tuxedo by Indy Magnoli

I was just visiting Indy's site and noticed that he now has a replica of the Casino Royale tuxedo in his offerings. Perhaps this was only inspired by the CR tuxedo and is not a replica because I noticed something that is (I believe) incongruent with the film. That is to suggest that the film jacket (Brioni) had no vents while the Magnoli Royale has side vents. Anyone remember any vents on the CR tux?

I actually replied to this under another heading. But i asked Indy to make me the CR Tux and i asked him specifically to put Vents on jacket. I really dont like the look of non-vented jackets. I am sure that if you wanted the tuxedo and told Indy no vents it would be no problem.

    Maxximus,

That explains it then. Yours was a custom change off of the standard. I assume everything else matched the Brioni dinner jacket and trousers then? The photos on Indy's site were quite dark and I couldn't pick up much detail. Could be my computer...

My apologies folks...I didn't realize there was another thread on this topic until just now. Perhaps a moderator could close this one and direct to the original.

I cant honestly say how close the Magnoli tux matches the Brioni. In terms of looks (minus the whole vents issue) it looks like the pics. the only differences brought to my attention thus far is the brioni collar has a little more curve to it and the fabric is midnight blue while mine is black. other than that the tux looks and feels great.

Hmmm. never knew the Brioni in CR was midnight blue. I guess I always assumed it was black. One thing I have a question on though is the lapel. Wasn't the lapel on this tuxedo the same material as the rest of the jacket or did it have a satin or grosgrain lapel.

The tuxedo I have is a Hickey Freeman notched grosgrain lapel. I personally prefer grosgrain to satin but I REALLY liked the lapel in CR...it may be an optical illusion but I thought it looked like the jacket material.

    Anyone, anyone...Buehler?

I personally prefer the double vents myself so I can see why you ordered it that way. I think this tux may be on my wish list of Magnoli apparel. I have some photos somewhere of the same Brioni model used in CR... do you know what reference materials Magnoli used or did he have someone eyeball it?

i sent magnoli screen shots for him to go off of for the tux. the exact material and weight he used is buried deep somewhere in my email inbox and not easily retreivable at the moment. but i did ask indy about the color and he said the tux used in CR was midnight blue, because on film it looks "blacker than black" and regular black tends to look a bit more gray when filmed. overall i think its close to the film and i'm quite happy. for those that cant find or afford brioni bespoke this is an excellent option.

Your tuxedo looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing some more pictures!

Here is an extract from the Childline website when the tux was up for auction shortly after CR was released:

    "8. Daniel Craig’s 007 tuxedo
Have you ever wanted to feel like you were Bond, James Bond? You have the chance to own a 007 tuxedo worn by latest James Bond, Daniel Craig, whilst filming the movie Casino Royale, the 21st instalment of the James Bond movie series.

Daniel Craig wore the 007 tuxedo whilst filming the action packed 2006 movie Casino Royale. He played James Bond 007 as conceived by Ian Fleming - a charming but cold-hearted secret agent with a taste for luxury.

The 007 tuxedo prize includes a dress shirt, bow tie and braces. The tuxedo is a black Brioni 2 piece single button dinner suit with gross grain peak lapels. The tuxedo trouser leg is 32 inches and chest size is around size 42. The shirt is a White Turnbull & Asser cotton piquet fabric long sleeve CA collar with fly button through front and double cuffs. It comes with a self tie black silk bow tie and White Moire Petersham braces with leather trim and knitted tape Gieves & Hawkes trouser attachments."

If you want to be really suave I recommend those Braces ;)

I actually have Albert Thurston Braces to go with the tux. I also have church oxford Shoes, the "coffin" cufflinks and magnoli's shirt is on the way. Guess all i need is a martini and a license to kill :)
And by the way thanks for the tip on the color of the tux. i wonder if throughout shooting the film they alternated between midnight blue and black? maybe blue worked better in some shots than others?? either way i'm good. dont plan on spending another 600+ over a color correction anytime soon though.
