Was this site Hacked today?

A7ceA7ce Birmingham, EnglandPosts: 656MI6 Agent
I tried to log on all day today but there was an error message on the login page saying that the site had been hacked by some guy with a Gmail id.

Any one else get this or not -as I can't see this being discussed anywhere?

well that makes two of us then...
it looks like no one seems to have posted for at about 7 hours - that's not normal on here, everyone has an opinion.

    yeh, I noticed it too.....

I guess SiCo managed to sort it.....typical, I get a few hours free time to post and then the site goes down, oh well, glad it's up and running again.

Here's what I know about the incident so far, I don't believe there is anything to worry about. I do suggest as a precaution that you change your passwords. This is standard procedure when things like this happen.

Basically it looks like a someone managed to access the sites control panel which contains a tool to close the site.

They then closed the site with the polite message you all saw.

The incident seems to of occurred by forcing a guess at the password used to access this area (who knows how long this could of taken).

I will have more information when I have gone through the logs and everything else associated with this.

For now please don't worry but for completeness please change your passwords and make sure they are as secure as they can be. I can't urge this enough, secure passwords are critical (otherwise look what happens!).

Just shows that you can never be too safe ;)

Maybe you should create a new feature which makes you do 2 passwords to enter, one after the other (both different of course)

I've been busy with my GCSE's the past couple of days so I missed it all anyway LOL

I haven't experienced any major problems, I am working on a slight change to the login system, you will all be forced to login again (if you store let the site remember you).

Please report any issues to me at sico (at) ajb007.co.uk and I will do my best to help you.

A7ce I suggest when you login you try clicking the logout button (i.e. forcing a logout and trying again). I don't see any problems when I try logging in and out.

In a follow up to my post earlier can I recommend that people create completely random passwords. The system in the link below is very good (difficult to remember, but that's one of the points).

Sorry about that please note that old passwords are now case sensitive. Therefore they must be entered exactly the same as they were first entered.

Sorry for any inconvenience but it's for added security.

You guys might not be as dense as me but when I first went to change my password it says current password, confirm password, confirm new password. I put in my current password in the first two slots and then my new password. I then realized I was suppose to put in my current password, my new password, and then my confirm my new password. I don't know if that helps...

I have now changed the wording to make it clearer as you're right it was poorly worded!

I am assuming whatever security problems this site is having are the fault of that horrid 'article' on the front page in regards to Licence to Read: Colonel Sun...I was, to say the least, shocked and thought that during my short absence from the site AJBers had descended into a fit of madness and obscenity.

I hope all is fixed soon enough.

If you do not know what I am talking about please refer to the home page article with the one finger salute.

I also hope that by clicking on that link I did not open some virus...especially since I was told as I opened the screen that I was f***** by so and so.

If you are reading this, please don't click on the link just in case.

    Cheers. {[]

That picture on the article, is hosted by AJB007.

I would also check to see if he uploaded other things, unless that picture was on here already.

But glad to see the site is back up
