Budget QoS jacket

Have to give credit where credit is due...Adam Fraser found this great alternative to the TF desert jacket. Follow the link below and choose Navy. Yes there is some synching around the back waist but its a GREAT alternative for $50!!! I would purchase this jacket before it is sold out. Also, for those looking for a CR Venice Long sleeve shirt look under the long sleeve polo section and color would be admiral blue. So at Lands End two great budget Bond purchases to be made!

Message : This message is intended for David Z. I have recently purchased the Men's Club Jacket from Lands End, it is going for $50. It is brushed cotton and pretty much spot on including the Dark Blue color. You said that you had not found a budget QOS jacket and this is it. If you respond to my email I will be able to send attached photos. I understand that Magnoli just released his QOS jacket but I am quite satisfied with this jacket. I have attached the link but please excuse the olive color, it is not too great but in Navy it is quite SA. http://www.landsend.com/pp/ClubJacket~161540_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::VNO&CM_MERCH=IDX_00001__0000000044&origin=index Bests! Cracking jacket, thanks for posting. Sadly the UK site for Lands' End does not stock this particular jacket which is a bit of a shame.

I would be interested in such an alternative available in the UK should anyone know of one.

Several of you have asked about fit...I am going to be receiving these by Friday and will let everyone know BUT in the meantime Lands End has a cool vitual feature where you can build a male model with your general specs then try on a series of clothes with the virtual model. Try the above jacket with a pair of dark jeans for example....cool stuff!

Mine arrives tomorrow. I'll let you know how their online sizing suggestions work out.

I received my jacket today. Very nice! A nice dark blue, 100% cotton, lightweight, dark navy buttons, blue nylon liner, two interior pockets. I'm glad I ordered the medium. I usually wear medium when I'm going for a more "fitted" look. I would say this runs true to size to slightly large. Great budget alternative.

Small can be snug on me, but medium can sometimes be big on me. This medium is way too big for me. Exchanging it for the small (I think a snugger fit is called for with this jacket).

But the pics show it a bit too light; it's definitely darker, closer to the shade as I recall it from the film.
  • The Bond ExperienceThe Bond Experience Newtown, PAPosts: 5,490Quartermasters
Yep, my medium is going back for a small!!! But the long sleeve polo fits well...though I could have possiblt stood to get a small in that as well.

I ordered mine this afternoon, you can use the US site to order for the UK just select international shipping and then your country when you go to checkout.

Got mine today, via UPS from the USA to the UK. I am normally size 42" so ordered the large. It just fits fine, if very slightly too big - although I think a medium would be too small. I have already altered the elasticated back hem (to make it tighter)and it seems a better feel. Excellent budget version of the QoS jacket, so well done to the guys that tracked it down.

Anyone have pics of the actual jacket? I'm skeptical in ordering one due to the jacket having wrong colored buttons.

Am I the only one who thinks the jacket - and the Craig Tom Ford original - looks like "old man in wind-breaker on golf course" before going to the club bar for a G & T?

No, I am sure there are others that feel that way....but if you enjoy that Steve Mcqueen type Harrington look this is a nice piece of kit for your wardrobe..

    To each their own...:)

Did you get any customs charges?
  • geosamgeosam LondonPosts: 66MI6 Agent
Yes we did get customs charges, that had to be paid cash to UPS on delivery. Not happy about it, but overall cost for getting the jacket was still quite reasonable.

I think the jacket style looked absolutely bada** and was perefect for James Bond, was sort of a no-nonsense no-frills jacket good for blending in and not sticking out. much like in Bolivia.

What's wrong with a gin and tonic?!

I was interested in this but from my recollection, Land's End tends not to have a real 'fitted' cut. However based on ycpchief's post a medium may be a good choice.

Does anybody know if these can be bought using paypal or do you absolutely need a credit card?

The only credit card I have is the one Simon made, and I don't think they would accept that...:#

Same here, I also have the same dilemma. Was wondering if anyone could do me the favor of ordering for me and I pay them by paypal. This jacket looks kickass B-)

Has anyone ordered and received the Magnoli Quantum Jacket? I've ordered and curious how it's going to turn out. Thanks.

Tom Ford really did a great job updating the classic G4 Harrington for QOS. I only buy Bond items that I would use "in real life" (just a Sunspel, various shawl cardigans, and a 45mm SMPO so far), and immediately after seeing the movie I wanted a similar jacket. So far I've tried:

A vintage Baracuta G4 from Ebay. This jacket had a blousy, unappealing cut similar to the original non-slimfit g9. If you want one, most sellers don't know it's called a G4--just look for the non-elastic cuffs and hem and side adjustors. The modern version ( http://www.baracuta-g9.com/v2/shop/view_product.php?id=218 ) is possibly a more athletic fit.

I've tried on the Land's End jacket, and it has a similar, blousy old-man type of cut. Some tailoring might help but I don't think it would be worth it.

The Penguin "Just a Man" golf jacket, ( http://www.penguinclothing.com/17SJ0269-451-penguin.html ), is basically an unlined windbreaker. The fabric is a little bit too "plastic" for my taste (like a raincoat almost), and the penguin logo is more visible than the photos show. I had mine taken in at the waist and it fits perfectly. The color is of course way off. No one is going to mistake this for a Tom Ford, but it's an attractive and useful jacket.

My favorite so far is the Brixton Edwin ( http://www.brixtonltd.com/product.php?d=Mens-Jackets-Edwin&item=124&cat=4 ). It's also unlined, runs quite small, and lacks the wavy back seam. Only comes in black and olive (no navy), and the stitch quality kinda sucks. All that aside, it's a great fitted jacket and I have actually had someone ask me if it was "the one from that James Bond movie". It's a poly/cotton blend but with a nice open fabric texture, much less plastic than the Penguin.

Sadly, if I had been more patient I could have had a custom Indy for what I spent so far. I probably will end up getting it anyway--it looks amazing and nothing beats bespoke.

Jaeger has two navy blue Harrington type jackets which seem to be pretty close to the TF one. One is a Gant so unfortunately it has the logo, but the other one is plain.

They also have a black leather jacket very similiar to the one worn in CR at Miami airport
