I have both the Persol pairs and am looking to acquire the Tom Ford 108. With summer getting close I would go for the real thing if you are intending to do so anyway. Why not invest in one pair now and a second pair in a couple of months time? The Persol ones are great quality so you wont regret it.

I have a pair of Persol 2278s that I bought about a year ago without realizing their similarity to Bond's sunglasses. I had the lenses replaced with prescription lenses. They are very comfortable and extremely well-made - by far the best sunglasses I have ever owned (and I've owned Oakley and Ray Ban in the past).

I agree with NMS - if you are going to go for the real thing eventually, I wouldn't waste your money on a substitute. I would guess that any adequate substitute would cost about as much anyhow.

My only other suggestion would be to check out a sunglasses kiosk at a shopping mall... sometimes they sell knock-offs for around $20-50. Buyer beware though - I'm sure they are fairly poor quality.

I generally don't compromise but the last thing which I would, are things affecting my eyelight.

Just keep in mind: Your eyes - sunlight - open pupils - and possible failures on cheap lenses.

Cheap sunglasses in your collection showcase - maybe
But wearing these would be a no-no for me

Cheap sunglasses block visible light which dilates the pupil. If it blocks UV, great, but if not, it lets even more UV light in to damage the eye than does no sunglasses at all.

Best to wait on the proper ones(Oliver Peoples, :p)
