Do you know what's kind of annoying about most of the Bond films that succeeded From Russia with Love? Q's constant whining about 007 mistreating government property. And now Daniel Craig wants the whiney Quartermaster to come back.
"I admire your courage, Miss?..." "Trench, Sylvia Trench."

"I admire your luck, Mister?..." "Bond, James Bond."

I would have thought it was Michael G. Wilson's cameos. Live and learn.

    Q's whining doesn't bother you?

Only when John Cleese became the Quartermaster. Pretty much felt like Desmond was the curmudgeonly uncle rather than a whiner, and I enjoyed his crustiness.

I believe another member already posted something similar in another thread about this, but apparently Desmond asked on the set of Goldfinger why he was supposed to be like that with Bond.

The answer he got was that was becuase Bond always breaks his stuff and never returns anything he gets.

From that perspective it makes a lot of sense.

Also, in LTK amongst others, we see that Q deeply cares for Bond.

Very much like an uncle indeed. And how would your uncle react to you if you always broke his stuff? :v

Well technically it's not Q's stuff it's government property but I suppose he could get attached to all of those litte gadgets he created in the lab.

Obviously you dont like the jokiness of Q. Fair enough, but I think it adds someting to the series. There needs to be someone that gets annoyed with Bond, not just M. I though Q really lacked in FRWL, there was something missing, it was boring.

IMO the "Ejector Seat? Your joking" "I never joke about my work" line is fantastic.

Plus audiences love the Q scenes.

Well it can get reduntant after a while especially if every Bond film has a joking session between Q and James.

I think alot of movies showed that Q did really care for bond and took him seriously. I like the scene in Octopuusy where Vijay is killed and how simple the scene with Q and Bond is. As if they joke around as friends but when its serious, its serious.

There are only a couple of incidences where I don't care for Q or feel that the scene could have been different. For example the sequence in Goldfinger is fabulous and it's famous - it's brilliant as someone highlighted above. The shift from this film however to Thunderball where he appears in his bemuda shorts and straw hat and Bond sighs is really silly I think. He doesn't seem as important to the mission or worthy of respect now.
A happy medium could have been reached I think. He's also a pain in TMWTGG. I think he's great in FYEO with the identigraph. In Goldeneye it's terrible when you see him almost look at the camera (his lines must have been in that direction) but he was getting on a bit then.....

Q was part of the fabric of the Bond movies, and I miss Desomond alot, but I will say that if they bring him back he needs to be a totally different type of character.:007)

    Whats this? Someone slagging Q?

    Shocking! Positively shocking!

Obviously, JimmyBond likes being a lone man in the wilderness.

"Q, have I ever let you down?"
    "Frequently."
