was gregory peck ever considered for bond. i think he would have been pretty good myself.

    I don't think he was no. But I agree with you, he did have certain qualities that would make him eligable for the role of Bond.

    Ian Fleming, FRWL (Jonathan Cape, 1956) pp 177-8:

    "You are very handsome," [Tatania] said. She searched for a compliment that would give him pleasure. "You are like an American film star."
    She was startled by his reaction. "For God's sake! That's the worst insult you can pay a man!"
    She hurried to make good her mistake. How curious that the compliment didn't please him. Didn't everyone in the West want to look like a film star? "I was lying," she said.

    Mr Peck would be a very well-known star at this point. Having said (or rather quoted) the above, IMHO there could have been worse choices in the 50s.

    Nice quote there, Barbel B-) Peck's chiseled features would have suited Bond nicely...but then there's the same old problem of his not being British---and an American film star as huge as Peck was, in the '50s, would have had a great deal of difficulty suspending my own personal disbelief.
