  I have always LOVED the museum look...a few well placed pedestals qwith halogen soft lights...perfect. Where I have seen it done right is when people will limit the amount of pieces on the peds BUT then circulate the collection...ie every 2 weeks change the pieces out.

  The key issue here is the style of your displays versus space. As a fan of the Trek universe I sympathise. Where do you display things, and what goes out, and what stays locked down? (As for storage, I use the loft, but I am reaching my limit myself.)
  
  Like Trek, Bond has specific collecting "sub genres" - vehicles, costumes, weapons, and of course these are split between actual production items, and fabricated merchandise.
  
  Maybe the answer is periodically rotating displays, with different themes now and again, like full scale exhebitions do? Examples - Q Branch, Vehicles, Weapons, Historical Gadgets, Noted Film Props, The Connery Era, The Moore era etc, - With the GG as a permanent seperate fixture, as its your signature piece? (Esh, no pun intended!) Mine as you would expect, is Thunderbird 2!
  
  As for selling something off, one word of warning, esp if we are taling items of value. - Once its gone...
  
  As a side note Mantis, you are extremely lucky, and dedicated. You and your family have a lovely home, (I had a nosey at your site) with plenty of room to display your dissyingly impressive collection! (Anyone who has room to add their collection to the downstairs cloakroom is someone to pay attention to!

  thanks for the tips.... I think I may go with the less is more approach... and store some items away and maybe sell of some items...
  
  also all I can say to all collectors.. is IKEA display Cabinets £28 .. Bargin of the century ..... I know a shop fitting company who supply the basic same case for £200 region..
  i cant understand how IKEA can afford to sell these amazing cabinets so cheap.. and there top notch .. a quality product ..

  They are a good cabinet - I have one myself - I would have more but it's a question of space.
  
  Definately go for the 'less is more' approach - that way it will really 'show off' your best pieces.

  I have a room .. for my collection ...
  
  I have 3 of these cabinets mounted on a base side by side so there tops touch the roof.. and a single one lower down on the ground.. beside those 3 so thats 4 IKEA cabinets and a corner display case a jwellery shop style case .. same height as the ikea cabinets .. but a corner style .. all metal with glass.. which My Dad GOT for £12 and i soon saw the same case in a shop brochure for £250 - £300 region .. what a find

  Thank you Thunderbird2...actually the collection does NOT spill over into the normal part of the house...its relegated to the walk out basement/media room. Good woman, that wife of mine!

  I'll say .. she is fab .. a complete one off .. how many Woman realisticaly, would have allowed David to turn the basement into his own little Bond museum and layer .....

  Mine's spread across the whole house...there is only one room that escapes any Bond memorabilia - so far :v
  
  I've had both the loft and garage converted so I can get most of my collection in there....but the fourth bedroom (the one I'm in now) is crammed full of Bond books and other Bond bits and pieces....and I still have a wardrobe full of gear I can't display and at least 50 posters that haven't been framed - yet :v
  
  I've almost given up on collecting more...it really is a question of space...but there are still some items I would like to get.

  yea I would love to be the Fonz from happy Days at David's house.. ) except living in the basment amongst that Bond museum .. instead and if I am worng sorry, but I think the Fonz in happy days lived in the garage didnt he .. ) anyway ..

  I envy you having a house full of Bond stuff.. I would probibly be the same when I get on the preperty market when I am a bit older.. probibly have a full size Little Nellie hanging in my Living room ) the reason I can sort of, limit myself to a room at the moment is because I stick to props and replicas.. and film posters.. photos / models... and vintage memorabilia... but not all Bond items interest me .. I got rid long ago, of modern corgi's and Sideshow figures...
  
  but more than likely if I had more storage space I would expand my collection

  1) My Stepmum is of the same caliber, she is wondfully accomodating to my Dad's devotion to railway memorabilia! (Yes, collecting and fandom of a sort, is genetic in my family!)
  
  2) The property market? Esh, I admire your optimisim Q, thats a complete nightmare. Unless you are working for someone who pays very well? :v
  
  3)Full size Little Nellie hanging up?! Silly Q (shakes head) - you don't need wall brackets, you need a small hanger, a pilots liscence, and a secure place to store the fuel!
  
  As for me, I will continue to consider the occasional pocket sized items that have a Bond-esque aspect I can put with my modest 007 inspired wardrobe. - I know I keep saying it, but pics will be available of my take on the CR costuming once I have tidied myself up and I've got a bit buffer.
  
  Getting back on topic - have you considered highlight item displays Q? Something that can sit in a corner, or on a small table as a display in itself? For example, a few chips and playing cards alongside Le'Chiffre's inhaler and the tracker? I realise space might be a problem with this approach.

  I also envy your ability to limit yourself - or sell off - to certain items. It's a bit easier now, now that I don't have much room...but I still end up buying items and then wondering what the heck I'm going to do with them )

  I was going down that route for years and years.. even before i made my website .. and became a member here etc
  
  I was buying models and figures etc .. and after taking the items home and displaying them .. I was thinking what the hell ! why did i waste the money on that... ) it was about that point I started making props and replicas as a hobby .. things I could not buy .. or get hold of

  That's something else I envy...I neither have the patience or skill to produce the items many collectors on here manage to create...you really are a talented bunch -{
  
  I suppose I've been lucky that quite a few of the items I've bought over the years have increased in value...and it really is luck more than judgement...having said that, a few have decreased as well )

  ) good stuff.... yes I know what you mean with collectables increasing and decreasing in value etc .. the vintage collectables i stick to is 60's toys and some 70's so I know they will hold there value if not increase.
  
  in regards to the making of items and replicas etc .. I do admit .. you need to have patience and an eye for detail.... but it is something i have done from a very early age.. making things.. even before I was into Bond in a big way .. I remember making models out of cardboard and stuff.... I used to ask my mum and dad to get me large cardboard boxes.. and I can remember making bases and head quarters for my Action man figure etc .. at the age of 5 etc .. ) so its something I have always done .. making things...
  
  my earliest memory ... of making a bond item... was when i was very young.. and I had watched a Bond film .. at my uncles house.. i think it was FRWL and I had a luger cap gun at the time .. i must have been about 7 / 8 and I got a magazine and cut it to a certain size, rolled it up to form a tube... and covered it in black electrical tape and made a silencer and stuck it onto the gun .. )
  
  thats the one thing I wished I had kept from my childhood.. that luger cap gun .. it was a very unusual .. looking pistol .. it fired caps.. at the back of the gun .. it did not look entirely like a luger.. it was a mix of a luger and a Walther P-38 .. as I say would have been a nice item to have looked back .. on .. I think I have a picture in a family album somewere showing me as me as a kid .. with it..
