Ian Fleming & Oliver Stone

What you all think of Oliver Stone making a movie about Ian Fleming's life? I have heard this may be in the works.

Moving this out of the Site Help forum and into the General Bond Chat forum, where it makes more sense.

I've heard that Leonardo Di Caprio's production company has the rights to this project...but I hadn't heard about Stone being attached to it :o If he is, far better for him to tackle Fleming, with his characteristic factual sleight-of-hand, than to fictionalize yet another stereotypically evil, scheming, stupid, etc., president :(|) 8-)

...As long as it's understood, out of the starting gate, that such a project would (in all likelihood) be a third filmic fudging of Fleming's life :s Doesn't mean it won't be well-made, or even terrifically entertaining...it just won't be accurate, if such things matter ;)

My favourite Stone-fictionalized biopic is The Doors B-) Great performance from Val Kilmer, and the music rocked...

Instead, what we'll get is the story of how Ian Fleming, who was secretly planning to end the Vietnam War, was actually murdered by Saltzman and Broccoli, both to secure film rights to Bond and to churn out increasingly outlandish Bond adventures to keep people's minds off the horrors in southeast Asia!

I love Stone. PLatoon, Wall Street and Born on the Fourth of July are all brilliant IMO, while JFK is one of my all-time favourite films. :D However he arguably hasn't made a good film in years, and therefore I've become less excited about him in recent years. However assuming he returns to form, then I think this is great news.

I think Oliver Stone is a great director and would love to see him take on the project.

I am a devoted fan of Ian Fleming, but if Mr. Stone is attached to the project - I'd skip it. Likewise, I am still trying to come to grips with DiCaprio in the lead.

Sounds like a good opportunity to bank the admission fees and stay home.

I'm still coming to grips with DiCaprio replacing De Niro as Scorsese's on-screen alter ego. :# I like DiCaprio, but Scorsese (probably my all-time favourite actor) has clearly replaced De Niro (probably my all-time favourite actor) with Dicapro as his preferred lead, and I can't say I'm overjoyed about that. :#
