I have no idea who "bronsnen" is, so why should I hate him?

I didn't like Brosnan's Bond at all really. I never really enjoyed him as an actor to begin with, and James Bond was just another thing I did not enjoy from him. I could take absolutely nothing he did seriously, even when he played Bond very serious and very straight in "Goldeneye," he looked bad, he performed poorly.

Bronson himself complained off record that essentially the problem with Bond was he was a 1960s character in a present-day world.

    Bond is less so these days, I think---so good for Eon in that regard -{

Brozzer was fine; I never fail to be entertained by even the least of his Bond work. Just as each actor does his part by keeping the character and franchise alive, so Brosnan did his.

Brosnan was a great Bond - He enjoyed the role, he had the correct style, ok some of the films were not good, (Die Another Day), But that is not his fault, blame the script writers, not Brosnan. He has superb acting skills, he could be serious, funny. His hair was about the right lengh in The World Is Not Enough. He had great expressions in Goldeneye with Alec. He had the enjoyable films, not the best ones, the classics, but I still very much enjoy them. Mostly Goldeneye a great start, good script and very good sequences.

I love Brosnan. IMO he remains the second greatest ever Bond, behind only Connery. An extremely underrated actor, I thought each of his performances were superb. Take DAD for instance; it's one thing to act well if supported by a great screenplay (such as GE), but to act well if supported by a terrible screenplay? That takes real talent. Unlike Connery and Moore, he wasn't blessed with a number of amazing films. GE is IMO the best Bond film since TSWLM, while TWINE is IMO the last great or even very good Bond film, however TWINE wasn't perfect and TND and DAD are not among my favourite Bond films. But you deal with the cards you're dealt, and I think that Brosnan did a wonderful job. For not only did he consistently act superbly, but he looked wonderful, was fantastic in action scenes, was suave, ruthless, charismatic and I think he was robbed of a fifth Bond film.

Not me, I like it for the fact of

    - New Bond
    - A Fellow 00-Agent
    - Cold War Plot
    - Tank Chase
    - Sean Bean (Alec) Great Villain
    - A Villain's Headquarters
    - Good Lines like 'Back from the dead James ...'
    - Valentin Zuckovsky

    And lots of other things, that make a good Bond film -{

00Baxter, I've noticed that in your posts you seem to assume that you speak for everyone (e.g., hating Brosnan--note spelling--and thinking Hugh Jackman would have been a disaster as Bond). Your opinions are fine, but remember they are just that: your opinions. Please stop saying what "other people" think.

Don't know if I'm odd,But I've liked every actor who has played Bond,They each bring something to the role.Sure I have a favorite but I don't hate any of them.Even the Bond films I regard as weak.I still watch on a regular basis,You can't blame the lead actor for all the problems with a film,Bad writing,Direction and photography all have to take their share of blame.

I think the film stands up on its own. I've never played the game but still am a big fan of the movie. Although recently I've begun to notice that certain stuff in the plot makes very little sense, but regardless of that Goldeneye is grand entertainment.

Brosnan was a good Bond - rate him third behind Connery and Craig. I think his biggest trouble is that the films he appeared in were not that great, especially Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day. He has a good screen presence, charm, looks and the ability to show a hard edge, although he didn't do this often enough.

I can clearly see how much the person who started this thread disliked Brosnan - the spelling is quite interesting to say the least.

I've never played the game, or any Bond game fo that matter. GE is one of my all-time ten favourite Bond films and is IMO the best Bond film since TSWLM. The performances, the action scenes, the women (especially Xenia :x), the screenplay, the dialogue, the direction, the villain and Brosnan himself all combine IMO to make GE a masterpiece.

My only problem with it was the psychoanalysing; M's 'dexist, misogynist dinosaur' speech, Alec's asking Bond whether the Vodka Martinis drown out the screams of all the men that he killed and Natayla's asking Bond why he's like that, or words to the effect.

Yeh, the score wasn't amazing. But then again, has any of the recent scores been all that great? In terms of theme songs, for example, the last one which I really liked was All Time High.

I liked Brosnan a great deal and thought his only really naff film was DAD. There are elements of all his films which I don't like - but let's be honest we're a pretty sad bunch watching all the Bond films as much as we do, and reading and re-reading the books. It would be pretty hard to take a genre and watch it to death and not find irritating things in every film. I imagine there are a great many treckies, star wars buffs and Indiana Jones fans that have the same converstations. We are just unusual because our genre has had 22 official films (and more besides) to pick at.
I like all the actors to have played Bond in different ways, as I like all the films (or have liked before watching them to death!) for different reasons. I feel sorry for any Bond fan who can't take something objective away from a certain Bond and his films. It leaves rather a large and unfulfilled gap in their obsession.

I don't like Brosnan in GE and TND, but from TWINE onwards he is tough like Bond should be.
Also Bond is supposed to be the best dressed man in the room Brosnan is except when he wears a tuxedo, his bow ties are huge and ugly, seriously bond should wear thin ties(IMO), thats why(IMO) Connery looked bad when he wore the thick bow tie in DAF he looked bad.

Bronson himself complained off record that essentially the problem with Bond was he was a 1960s character in a present-day world.

Charles Bronson was almost James bond? :o

Seriously though, no actor who has played Bond has been a disaster in the role (well, maybe Woody Allen...) and every one of them has brought something worthwhile to the character.

I liked Brosnan's Bond a lot, especially his earlier films where he brought a good mix of humor and toughness to the role. That portrayal really dovetailed well with my sensibilities and GE is one of my favorite Bond movies and Brosnan's best outing for my money.

About the only complaint I'd level at him is that he seemed to take the role a little too seriously as his tenure went along and that always didn't fit the tone of the film he was in. I'm sure he was frustrated that he never got to make the kind of Bond movie that he wanted but his efforts are all still entertaining and worthwhile to me.

An interesting thead, Brosnan was too tough, not tough enough, too serious, not serious enough, good in GE and TND, but nothing later, didn't like him in GE and TND, but did like him in TWINE and DAD. Just goes to show how EON will never please all Bond fans.

IMO, Brosnan was an excellent Bond. His physical appearance, in my eyes, is close to Fleming's Bond, his demeanor was about what I would expect of Bond too. He was able to convey a devotion for the job, while dismissive of the bureacracy involved at times. He also displayed on screen a love and passion for women, which Fleming's Bond have. He was able to handle the physical parts of the role, while still delivering the one liner (although some of them were terrible jokes). I also give him high marks for how he promoted Bond to prospective audiences, I think he was the best at that. Finally, I really believe he almost saved the second half of DAD with his sheer screen presence. Imagine any other of the Bond actors riding the rocket ice boat as CGI lights beams tried to stop them, riding the ice boat wreckage with a sail in front of a blue screen pretending those same CGI beams are about to kill them, or pantomiming his entrance into an invisible car. As bad as the script for the second half of DAD was, Brosnan darn near pulled it off. Not sure any other Bond actor would have done as well.

I read somewhere (maybe here) that the first hour of TNDs Brosnan is at his best at Bond and was the best incarnation of Bond since the 60s, He was tough (the many fight scenes throughout the first hour), romantic (scene with Paris),human (drinking alone, death of Paris) and everything else that i think makes a great Bond, and also he wasnt rail thin like he was in GE so he fit suits better and was more beliveable in the action scenes.

I agree, walter p99. I have no animosity to Brosnan either.

    However...

If he were to come round my house, at two in the morning, and start knocking on my door, then letting himself in with the key under the mat, then helping myself to my best brandy, fondling my bird THEN FLINGING ALL MY FAVE BOND DVDS ABOUT AND NOT TREATING THEM WITH THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE, I'D GO OY, BROSNAN, NO!

its 7 years since DAD, and venting one's spleen over an actor who left ages ago isn't really constructive. deep breaths, and let the hate go.
