Church's Ryder 3

Ok, I thought I'd post this as there's been lots of various topics on the subject and cheaper alternatives......Thurs I went to Regent St/Mayfair in London to buy some cheaper alternative to Church's Ryder 3. I already had some Clark's but wanted some desert boots with a solid sole, like Bond's. I went in Russell & Bromley, Crockett & Jones and tried on their version of the Ryder 3,which was exactly the same boot from 2 different shops just with their own name on it. They looked quite similar to Ryder 3's on the website's but in the 'flesh' were way to flat and pointy. Plus I tried my size on which is a 9 and they felt HUGE! My job doesn't pay all that well and I thought if I'm going to pay a fair bit for a cheaper alternative I may as well go the whole hog and buy the real thing. So my mind was made up and I went into Church's in Regent St and after trying on the real deal(they felt perfect) decided to fork out my hard earned cash. Once I got over the shock of spending that much money, I'm bloody glad I did go the extra mile. So if you are thinking about getting some Church's Ryder 3, I highly recommend them. Plus you get some free Church's socks:D Thanks for reading and letting me share.-{

    Good post & great decision to buy the Ryder 3's.

    Never regretted buying mine, did you look at the Phillip shoe also?

    Thanks. I did see the Phillip shoe and the guy in the shop even pointed out that that was the other shoe Daniel Craig wore in QOS. But the price of them......WOW:s

    If you can afford the real thing always go for it I say! There are some alternatives from quality shoemakers such as Loake but these too are fairly expensive - so like you say go the extra-mile if you can.

    On the issue of Church's Phillip shoes I think they are over-priced myself. If DC hadn't of worn them in the movie I wouldn't be surprised if Church's were selling them for about £100 less.

    Anyway, if anyone is looking for a pair of Church's Ryder IIIs or Phillips I'd go to Herring Shoes who ship worldwide. I get all my smart shoes from them and they only use quality brands such as Church's, Cheaney and Loake etc.

    I couldn't find in LA so I purchased mine on-line from Church's website. I can't recall if there was a shipping charge, but if so the charge was more than a trade-off with the onerous Calif. sales tax. It did take a number of months for US size 13 (UK 12) but worth the wait and Church's was good enough to toss in beautifully made cedar shoe trees. -{

    You get what you pay for with churches. I've had a pair for a while now and my dad has always worn them. The best thing is that when you wear out the sole you can send it back to churches to be resoled. I sent one of my pairs of ryders to be resoled (they were also quite badly scuffed) and they were sent back looking brand new. Sole was the same, with new insole liner and the suede had been cleaned and buffed.

    I had a look and a try-on of the Church Ryder III's after I bought a pair of the Loake Kemptons & I have to be bold here & equally recommend the Loakes. A little pointier than the Ryder's but fantastically comfortable & look very stylish with either jeans/trousers/chinos etc. £150 in price, but a price worth paying.

    I'm really pleased with my Church's Ryder 3's, I did see the Kempton's & they look very similar, my dress shoes are Loake..... Daniel Craig wears pointy brown chukka boots. Have a look at the topic 'Daniel Craig's shoes'.

    Greetings, I was thinking about ordering a pair of Church's but am a bit curious as to how they fit and thought someone might help. As they are so pricey you want to make sure you get a perfect fit.

    I wear a US 9 - 9 1/2 with med. to wide width. How closely do the boots fit to a conventional foot sizing device (Brannock Device). Has any one else ordered these and been concerned with getting an accurate fit? How did you deal with it?

    I live in Canada so any advice would be useful.

    Thanks,

    Belle

    Hello Belle, I'm a UK 9 and a medium to slim fit. As my post above says I tried on various alternatives, they felt really big, a 9 felt more like 10- 10.5 but the Church's felt just right. I believe Church's has a policy that you can send them back as long as their still in shop condition.
