Magnoli Montenegro Tie - Very Narrow?

Hi All

I received my Montenegro Tie today from Magnoli. As you would expect from Indy the quality of the tie is excellent and the pattern spot-on to the onscreen version.

However the tie is very narrow until it very sharply widens at the end to the usual 3.5 inch width. It looks more like a spade with a wide head and a narrow handle! It, therefore, in my opinion does not look right.

I also ordered the Royale Tie off him which arrived a week or so ago - again an excellent quality piece - but this tie is of the usual widths / measurements you find on typcial traditional tie. That is the tie widens from the narrow end to the wide end at a much more gradual angle.

Was the onscreen version of the Montenegro tie very narrow too?

Anyone else received this tie yet?

I wouldn't know, but in all my previous tie projects with Magnoli I've specified the standard T&A dimensions in all cases (except the Goldeneye Sulka tie, which had different dimensions I was able to provide).

Who made the Montenegro tie, anyways?

The Royale Tie has standard dimensions but not the Montenegro Tie!

I have a photo of both together to compare but I don't know how to upload a photo to this forum? Any ideas?

Ok here goes - Montenegro tie on the left and Royale tie on the right (sorry about the poor quality):

I just received my Montenegro tie today. It is narrow as well. I'll have to take at look at CR Blu-ray again to see if it is accurate or not. It is definitely a different cut than the royale tie.

Have you guys asked Indy why the tie is narrower than the other one?

I did email him and ask if the Montenegro tie could be produced using the same dimensions as the Royale tie. However he replied saying no as the Montenegro ties were made in lots and that the run had been completed.

Its a real shame as the tie - and this is obviously just my opinion - just doesn't look right being so narrow. It is not a skinny tie as the blade is still wide but as you can see from the pic it narrows rather sharply. The pattern is perfect and the quality of the tie excellent - just not the dimensions.

I guess in beginning this thread I was wondering if the onscreen version worn by DC was also narrow - hence why Magnoli have made it this way. Looking at the movie I can't see it but maybe you guys know better? Indeed you guys may well love the tie this way - I don't know :)

    Cheers for the link :)

I am now 99% sure the Magnoli version of the Montenegro tie is too narrow and should be the same dimensions as his Royale tie to be screen accurate.

I think that you are right, in the photo of Craig the tie looks full and that would take a wider normal width tie. That is too bad. There is no way that I will be buying one of these, the narrow style would look silly with a nice suit. :(
I would ask you if you could remain emotionally detached. But I don't think that's your problem is it Bond?

I had plan to purchase this one next week but after looking at the pics I will wait until a new batch is made with proper dimensions... tie looks like a kite!

Thanks for the heads up on this one and hoping Magnoli will have an updated version of this great tie soon...

Any news on his upcoming tie projects?

This is disappointing. I also intended to buy this tie next week, but will now not bother. Hopefully Indy will re-do the tie and achieve the correct dimensions. I will still buy the blue/silver QoS tie though. Previously I had expected great thing of the Goldeneye tie too, but was disappointed to find wool had been used in the tie - this causes problems due to a 'fluffy' effect - 100% silk should have been used.

the photo on Magnoli's website looks different, it doesn't look narrow:

Just to let you guys know I have also received the Royale and Quantum ties from Magnoli and both are absolutely superb! They are both of the normal dimensions for a tie and excellent quality.

So although the Montenegro tie was disappointing the Royale and Quantum ties are most certainly worth getting.

A big well done to Indy on those two! I just hope he remakes the Montenegro tie with the normal dimensions too!

Has anyone contacted him about the Montenegro tie to see what's up?
  • nms75nms75 United KingdomPosts: 1,233MI6 Agent
How many forum members want this tie in the proper dimensions? If there are enough interested do you think Indy will get a second run done anytime soon?

I would be. Not so much for the screen accuracy factor, but the fact that I abhor skinny ties.

Like I wrote before this tie was on my shopping list for next week... It will be again the moment a proper shaped tie is made available...

I also agree after carefully watching CR that the Magnoli tie does not have the right dimensions. In fact, it looks ridiculous. I have never seen a tie shaped like this. DO NOT BUY THIS TIE. I am disapointed to hear that he can't make any more in the correct dimesions. Where was the quality control on this? I am going to contact him and express my disapointment in this product and that others on this board who were planning to purchase it are not going to after hearing about our feedback. I would hope that he could get more made, correctly this time, and offer some type of discount to those who purchased the original, incorrect pattern.

I am watching CR right now. For 100% sure Magnoli's tie is incorrect. A sad waste of product and time.

I received my tie on Friday and it is too narrow. In addition, it is a good 3 inches shorter than the Quantum tie. Oh well, That's what I get for buying on impulse. Hopefully Indy will do a second run that will look more like the original.

Was Magnoli given the proper tie dimensions by whoever organized this project? Was a prototype evaluated before giving Magnoli the final OK for production?
  • 007 and a half007 and a half LondonPosts: 595MI6 Agent
I think those of you who have purchased one of these should be refunded.

    Shocking service in my opinion.

    Great news! I just heard back from Indy and he reports that he is looking to do a second run of this tie at the correct dimensions immediately. Those that have already purchased the incorrect version will be given a 50% discount if they purchase the new corrected tie. It's nice to see him stand by his product and respond to his cutomers. Here's looking forward to the corrected version. -{

I received my tie last week and it is narrow as well. I think the pattern and quality is awesome otherwise. I contacted him and he said that he's looking into a second run. He said for those who already have one of these, they will be able to order the new version at half price.
  • saint-antoinesaint-antoine CanadaPosts: 209MI6 Agent

In my Opinion he should give you a new tie for free othewise you're paying out twice just to get the correct tie. :s

    GREAT NEWS! :) :p

I will certainly be getting the new tie!

Anyone know when Indy will be accepting orders for it?
