Barbeque tonight with this rare sunny weather (for England at least). Baby back pork ribs with honey and whiskey glaze, homemade beef burgers with stilton cheese in the middle, pork and sage sausages, hot and spicy chicken wings, middle-rib of beef steaks, lamb kebabs with cumin and chilli dip. Oh and some salad for the ladies...

With The Bride over in Berlin at the moment (did I mention that Barbel's Daughter is expecting a baby? Due in December!) my mother has decided that a man alone can't look after himself in the kitchen and invited me for dinner twice this week. Tonight the menu was corn on the cob smothered in melting butter, followed by chicken in a mustard sauce with roast potatoes, finishing with smoked cheese and oatcakes. Mmmmm...

Recreated a delicious meal I once had in Austin, Texas. Barbequed sirloin steak with chilli and cumin baked beans, fried potatoes and onions

and a couple of cold Coors beers. I don't remember the beer tasting so sh*t though...

Tonight is traditional English roast - Roasted sirloin of beef, last of the garden runner beans, carrots, peas, roast potatoes (in duck fat) served with ale & onion gravy , Yorkshire puddings and horseradish sauce.

In England bacon sandwiches are usually made up of soft white bread, loads of butter, plenty of bacon and either ketchup or HP sauce.

Never went for the toasted bread, lettuce and tomato myself...

Hmmmmm, never thought about just a cheese and bacon sandwich. Maybe make it a grilled three cheese sandwich with lots of crumbled bacon? Now, which three cheeses go good together.

uhhhh...cheddar, medium sharp cheddar and extra sharp? or something mixed with bleu cheese?

Pasta from the pasta bar at the University Center as I was waaaaaaaay too tired and grumpy to cook after my three hour class this evening. Penne with pesto sauce, artichoke hearts and tomatoes. yum.

^Not a fan of Bleu Cheese. I can tolerate Sharp Cheddar. I'm thinking a Mild Cheddar and two other Mild Cheeses. I'll have to do my research and post here.

The wife and the little guy have gone off to see the in-laws for the weekend, so it's range time for me with he Hi-power, then some smoked salmon and horse radish, then a thick New York strip and a lobster tail on the grill.
Some red wine reduction for the steak maybe, or just pour the garlic butter for the lobster over the steak (oh yes I will...). Maybe some mashed potatoes so I can say I had a vegetable.

Watch FRWL while I clean the pistol. All in all a fine Bondish Saturday.

Well, today I made Grilled Cheese with bacon. Better than I thought, but could of probably been even better. I used Swiss Cheese and American Cheese, Applewood Smoked Bacon on Potato Bread. It was good, but some bites all I could taste was the bacon. I used one slice of bacon per sandwich (yes, theres leftovers.) Maybe next time I'll use two slices of each cheese, maybe a different bread or different bacon.
