last night, we (my roomie, our friend and I) were trying to make some uber complicated chicken thing...it ended up being pan roasted with scallions and a parsley/olive oil/garlic powder sauce thing on top. quite delicious.
but after. oh ho ho...we tried to make chocolate mousse. and the people at the grocery steered us in the wrong direction, so we spent an hour or so looking for an ingredient we didn't even need in the end before giving up saying F*ck you to the Mousse and buying chocolate pudding instead...which we (and by that, I mean 'I') accidentally burned because SOMEONE (my roomie) squirted me with whipped cream. serves her right that she got powder lumps in her pudding

Tonight it's to be NY Strip Steaks, wine sauce, mashed potatoes, something green (brocolini? My wife picked it up...sounds dastardly...) A friend is coming over to join us: he has the dessert. Might have to make cheese sauce for that brocolini to make it less healthy. Anyway, happy Saturday to one and all!

Kind of unrelated story, but a story to give you hope Pen:
Years ago the local mall had an awesome food court. When the mall remodeled they kicked out all the food court restaurants because it didn't fit in with their remodel plan. I was upset because the pizza place was the best pizza I had ever had. two or three years passed and I had forgotten about the pizza place. Then one day I got talking about it with someone and they told me the place was open and was about 4 miles away. Guess where I went for dinner that night? 8 years later and I'm still a frequent customer, so frequent in fact they know me by name.
Here's to hoping your favorite restaurant relocates. Family owned places are truly the best places to eat.

it was white pizza (ricotta, cream cheese, mozzarella mix) with artichokes on top. washed down with a double sized romarita which is a margarita with grenadine.

I love their snow crab legs...it's not unusual for me to do an order of those as an appetizer ;% You know, I've never had a steak there.

Wholesome and simple and loaded with calories! - chicken pie and mashed potatoes. Chicken, smoked bacon and mushrooms in a mild cheese and cream sauce, shortcrust pastry and mashed potatoes with loads of cream and butter. A diet looms after this weekend, together with some running and weights so what the hell!! (getting over an injury so ate loads, exercised not at all and avoided the bathroom scales!)

I had braised squid on a very small mound of squid ink rissoto, served with roasted peppers and chorizo sausage - my wife had shell-on mussels in cream, mustard and cider - both delicious! Then I had braised beef shin with wild mushrooms, potato and parsnip mash and wilted spinach, which was very good - my wife had soft poached egg with smoked cheese on a potato rosti with spinach and mushrooms - which was utterly sh*t! No amount of explanation from the chef and manager worked, and we got that dish refunded. Then both desserts I had my eye on (not both, just 1st and 2nd choices) were sold out! It was all going so well, but then I talked the manager into two free Vespas - so managed to try the drink after all this time. Not bad, and my wife sipped hers with the same expression as Eva Greene, but I think that it was more like relief that it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be!
I'd never eaten in a Michelin starred restuarant before (and this one had two!) but it wasn't all that really. It cost over £150 before drinks, and I've eaten better gastro-pub food for £25 a head.
Tonight it's homemade lasagne, tossed salad and garlic bread tonight for a twentieth of the price!!! )

Sorry to hear you meal wasn't all that.... how disappointing - but then again, those places get the stars, then if you visit on a 'bad' night - doesn't quite match up to the expectation.
