    Freshly cut asparagus, boiled new potatoes with a little chopped mint and grilled lamb chops. Served with a mixed herb Hollandaise sauce. Fairly healthy for me...

    Except for the Hollandaise, that is... ;)

    And the butter on the potatoes... :#

    And the fatty lamb chops... 8-)

    And the fact that I'm eating a Snickers bar whilst writing this... :(

    Accidentally ran into Wolfgang Puck on the way up to his new restaurant in LA (graduation dinner/gift from the parents, who never paid a dime in tuition for my undergrad/graduate education, so I feel less bad for eating overpriced if decent Chinese fusion). He's quite short, around my height (5'5" or so), but seemed friendly.
    Flattery will get you nowhere, but don't stop trying.

    last night was New York strip steak on the grill with a butter/parsley/garlic/lemon zest spread I made for the top of them. I'm still full from those...

    tonight, will be something much less...filling than that. I'm on my own tonight, so there will probably be grilled cheese with ham.

    Tonight is roasted shoulder of spring lamb (really lean and tender), onion and ale gravy, the first of the garden peas, carrots and roasted potatoes in mint butter. :D

    it was :D turned out rather well if I do say so myself :007) I'll send the recipe if you want it!

    mom and I roasted red beets and steamed some baby kale from the garden in a soy ginger marinade. the beets were tossed in olive oil and coarse grained sea salt. SO yummy.

    tonight, there's hot dogs and sauerkraut :x

    this makes enough to top four steaks:

    1/2 stick unsalted butter (melted)
    1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (grated)
    1 tablespoon minced parsley (fresh is preferred)
    1 garlic clove minced or pressed (about one teaspoon is good)
    1/2 teaspoon salt/ground pepper (or to taste)

    mix it together with a fork, and then spoon it on the steaks just before serving :D

    enjoy!!

    last night ended up being a "we're too tired to cook" night, so hot dogs are TONIGHT :D

    Today is 27c (80f) and clear blue. Bloody, bloody hot for England! Just had a dip in the sea (freezing) so it's officially summertime in the secretagent household. So it's BBQ once more. Got some nice rump steaks that I'm trying out Pen's topping on, and some sausages and burgers as well. The beer's on ice and there's quite a bit of it.

    * The swim at the time reminded me of the Moonraker novel. I swam out pretty quickly and expertly and dove down deep, then thought it would be nice to break through the surface of the water and plant a big kiss on the wife's lips... Scared the absolute sh*t out of her and nearly drowned her when said kiss became a headbutt. :#

    OK, no headbutts to the wife.
    No eye gouges, no throat strikes, no fishhooking and no small joint manipulation.
    No shamming on the ground either.

    But seriously folks, it was 100F here the other day, so Summer has arrived.
    Have to cut the grass today, and grill strips steaks and corn on the cob and drink icy cold beer.
    Work is having some sort of party at 3pm. I will be ducking out ASAP.
    Beer tastes much better at my house. -{

    Still waiting for summer here in California. It's about 60F and will be raining until Tuesday. Great day for a Pizza. So that's what I did. Went and picked up a Pit Smoked BBQ Pork Pizza. Mmmmmmm.

    My god - does anyone drink Reisling anymore! :)) Well, apart from the Germans that is. At least '97 was a good summer. ;)

    I'd say with tarte flambée a good Riesling is a must even.
    Everything else I tried was too dry or scented and ruined the unique taste of the Alsatian delicacy for me.
    I'd also definitely recommend a true Alsatian Riesling, not a German one.

    picked some kale and a leek from the yard...wilted the kale, tossed that with some lime/ginger marinade sauce, then tossed in the chopped up leek and some cashews. was delicious :D

    made pasta sauce from scratch with tomatoes we froze from last summer...added fresh basil and parsley, sauteed onions and garlic and then poured the tomato puree into the pot. perfection :D
