Pretty good alternatives! Do they sell these in the UK too?

I think you can call the people at J.Crew up and ask them to send it to your address.
It worked at kitbag.com when I was buying my Manchester United top.
    Or send them an email.

I bought some polo shirts at Walmart for 7.00USD. They look very much like Sunspel and they are a fine woven 60% cotton and 40% polyester. They are the same shade of dark blue, with the same shape of collar and with the pocket of course. I cannot stand polyester but these seem like almost 100% cotton because they are very soft. The top buttons are black but I do not know what color the buttons are on the real Sunspel that Bond wears. I think that not all Walmarts carry them. I bought mine in a town 50 miles away from where I live and did not see any in the Walmart here. They look so close to the Sunspel and for 7.00 how can you go wrong.
I would ask you if you could remain emotionally detached. But I don't think that's your problem is it Bond?

    No

gap.com also offers a good alternative to the Venice long-sleeved polo:
    http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5216&vid=1&pid=591490

    gp591490-01vliv01.jpg

Here's the same version in charcoal so the features can be seen more clearly:

    gp591490-00vliv01.jpg

Since it's from a past season, it's on sale for $20.00 (marked down from $32.50).

Although it can only be purchased at gap.com, you can get an idea of how it fits and what size you need by going to your local Gap and trying on the short-sleeved version which is still on the shelves, and gap.com has size charts which tell you the sleeve lengths.

Pardon my ignorance, but who made the original long sleeved polo for the film?

How close to the original color is the Gap shirt (I'm guessing it's the one their calling "Newport Blue") and did you buy the shirt at a store or online, because online in still says $32.50. That's still a great
price, don't get me wrong, but it's no $20.00 either.

I'm actually not sure who made the long-sleeve polo in the movie. Frankly, that's one mystery many people are anxious to solve, along with who made the Madagascar tropical shirt and the khaki jeans worn with the Sunspel polo in the Bahamas scene with M.

The Gap shirt is a bit darker blue compared to the shirt on CR. The Gap shirt also is a pique cotton whereas the CR polo appears to be a pima cotton. And though the website says it has a three-button placket, it is actually a two-button placket.

But I received it in the mail today and it looks very similar to the movie polo despite the color difference. The cut is similar and I can fit my grey Banana Republic crew neck (grey Sunspel look-alike) underneath like in the movie. I'd post photos, but I only have a camera phone with low-quality photos and I'm not sure how to upload photos on the new ajb007.

I bought it online (it's an online-exclusive item unfortunately), but the cut and colors are the same as the short sleeve pique polos sold in their stores.

Although the website says the price is $32.50, the price is actually $20.00. I was billed for $20.00 when I ordered the shirt. For some reason both prices are listed even though it is on sale.

I doubt it mate, Simon (Sruzgar) would have identified it if that was the case and he doesn't know who made it.

Also, see the 'Madagascar Shirt' thread. :)
  • Got it from various good sources, including a recent British sunday newspaper supplement, that the long sleeve Polo from CR venice scene was sourced from John Smedley, with the distinct colour still used in their new collections, even though design has changed slightly.
Also, a look at the archive news from the Smedley web page highlights their involement with CR, providing the long sleeve polo, and the dark roll neck sweater used by DC with his Black Pea coat and his two kills discussion!

But some nice long sleeve polos on the web page so give them a look!

Hmmm, a few that could fit the bill...anyone think they know which one? Edward would be nice since its sea island cotton!

Wonder if it couldalso be leander....maybe in Saphire as Navy looks too dark (his pants are navy in that scene and the shirt appears lighter...)

I suppose it could be true. Though if it is, the style seems to have changed a bit, as the CR polo had a different collar and covered/hidden placket. I'd also imagined that the polo was made from a slightly more durable material, since Craig wore it through some rough and wet scenes (Though I have no idea how durable sea island cotton is).

I would love to have this mystery solved, as I've been scowering the internet for one that would be passable since the movie came out. I'd been hoping that maybe Indy might take a crack at making one...

it wasn't a roll neck sweater it was a zip up sweater:

Just got this reply back from John Smedley
    Dear Charles

Thank you for your email. The following is taken from the John Smedley web
    site Archive page.

    James Bond wears John Smedley

John Smedley, the authority on knitwear, has been chosen by Daniel Craig,
the new James Bond, to be worn in Casino Royale. Craig will be wearing a
black Roll-neck (style Richards) and black V-neck jumper (style Belmont),
    in his debut Bond role.

In luxurious 100% New Zealand merino wool, the classic V-neck and
Roll-neck styles have never looked more stylish. Available in a range of
colours, these fine knits are perfect when teamed with a suit or blazer
ensuring you too can look as suave as James Bond

Articles featuring this story have appeared in The Independent, The
Yorkshire Post, The Scotsman and The Manchester Evening News.

The Richards is available and can be found in the 'men's classic' range.
The Belmont was replaced by the style Bobby in 2007, the Bobby is also
    available.

No talk of the long sleeve polo. But when are these two items used? One or both during the 2 kills talk? Did they even make it into the film?

if you are going to buy one it must fit like this

Isnt the cardigan what DC wears in the scene just after the fight in the Casino when he is talking to Mathis on the balcony? I don’t recall what he wears under the cardigan, but it’s paired with gray slacks (I think) and is reminiscent of a “look” that has become fairly standard for DC over the last few years.

In CR e only wears a cardigan after Vesper dies and he wears it with a v neck sunspel shirt.

I was just on the John Smedley and I didn't see the Richards. The They do have the Bobby, but what is the correct color?

Also, another thread mentioned that Lands' End had a long sleeve polo (admiral blue) that was a decent match. I just ordered it yesterday, so I'll have to see how it looks once I get it. I also bought
one from L.L. Bean (Navy) for only $16.95. It's too dark, but a great shirt and at a great price.

The Tom Ford polo looks so dark in the movie (especially in contrast with the Seven Mercer jeans)...

    2008_quantum_of_solace_002.jpg

...that it is almost comparable to the black version of the Sunspel polo:

    10016135_50481_800.jpg

    3801688.jpg

Would the black Sunspel 007 polo be a good alternative to the Tom Ford polo from the movie?

thats what i was thinking, it looks like tom ford copied the sunspel polo as seen in casino royale and put a tom ford logo on it, increased the price, and changed the colour to black. you know, i may get a black 007 polo now.

A few things...the Sunspel blue polo used to be darker...Sunspel is going lighter now...the TF polo used in QoS is nearly identical in color to the Sunspel NAVY polo that Sunspel used to sell and which was used in Casino Royale.

That all being said the black Sunspel is very nice....a very nice black shirt.

I noticed this similarity between the Tom Ford QOS Polo and the original Sunspel CR Polo too when I saw photos of the original blue 007 Sunspel Polo along with the current version:

    SunspelPolos009.jpg

    SunspelPolos001.jpg

Wish I could've claimed one of the original blue Sunspel polos back when they were still available :(.

But there was something else I also noticed while watching the Special Features on my CR disc. Though the Sunspel polo Craig wore in the actual Bahamas scene in CR was a dark blue, the Sunspel polo seen on Craig in the first few seconds of the CR featurette "James Bond for Real," on the Special Features disc was a lighter blue like the current version offered. Why is that?

Lighting, post editing and color correction etc...it's why the ships in Starship Troopers appear grey even though they were green in the filming of it....drives collectors nuts! :)

And it's also why Boba Fett's costume looks gray on screen, but it's actually tan/sand in person.
