If you look at all his pictures throughout his career, or since he started playing Bond, he looks different in all of them. I think its mostly due to lighting and that, and this is what I think, he's got one of the most unusually shaped faces I've ever seen....

I just meant that between those pictures Craig seems to have gotten more in shape. He seemed to put on some weight, good weight, not fat like I seem to keep putting on, and that this change shows in his face.

And if you look at DC before he played bond he is less stylish and after he is Bond he is more stylish.
Same with Connery before he was Bond he had never worn a suit ever, Terence Young made SC wear a suit all day just so he could get used to wearing one, sometimes SC even wore them to sleep, that explains why he pulls his pants really high up in DN.

The truth is wwe all look different in different photos as time passes. Its more notable with actors because we are used to them having a particular look or style in roles they play, and its a bit of an unconcious shock when they change later on. Especially if you se them several years later.

Connery is a good example. The man has taken care of himself, but he has changed a fair bit as he has got older. In fact, the same goes for Sir Roger, and Mr's Dalton and Brosnan too.

- I was under the impression Mr Craig has always been something of a clothes horse? Most of the pics I have seen where he is himself - not dressed as a character he is potraying show a nice taste in tailoring?

Now, see where Connery meet Auric face to face at the golf club for the first time. Thin, lean, with a hat! Sinatresque. Then, next scene, tailing Auric in the Aston in the Alps. He looks a stone heavier at least! That's within just a few months.

I was always struck by two different scenes in CR, with regard to Craig's overall 'look'---mostly his apparent weight. In the scene outside the Ocean Club, when he asks Solange to go back to his place for a drink, he looks very lean in the face. During the scene where Bond and Vesper arrive in Montenegro and have their conversation about their 'cover story' as a couple, Craigger looks much thicker through the neck, which gives the impression of much more bulk.

Things like this come up, I guess, when a shoot lasts six months

I noticed this. And considering the back to front way they shoot it must be really difficult to keep actors looking the same over such an extended period. I know they were'nt real injuries, but I always think Craig's face heals rather quickly from Miami to Montenegro as well!

yea for alot of the scenes in montenegro his face did look rather bloated, or fuller, then say, the madagascar chase.

He's also at the age when fluctuating weight really becomes an issue.

I had to laugh at the notion that Craig has an unusually shaped face. Growing up, I saw that most of the men in my home town more or less resembled Craig. Their hair was darker and their features were less coarse, but the general shape of face -- more or less like Connery's -- was quite common and considered masculine and handsome. Then somehow in the late 70s or 80s, people began to look more like mannequins, as well as more unisex. Men's faces became narrower and with lower foreheads, and traits that were more common to women, such as the long head and oval face shape, began to show up in men. But we seem to be returning to the former definition of handsome, which is fine by me.

I have wondered about this for some time, so was pleased to see this thread. A number of things strike me about this. I'm no expert, but I suspect a bit more than air-brush has been involved as the two shots could almost be of different people. While I agree that the 'good' weight gain and tan are big factors I would not rule out a nose job as they look very different to me, and weight gain is unlikely to change a nose. Also I think that Botox or something similar has probably been used as the pre shoot publicity shot Craig is so much fleshier in the face.

The real thing that still amazes me is that Eon were happy to unveil the new Bond looking like that in the first place (unshaven, dull suit, bad hair style...)I had not seen Layer Cake at the time and my first real exposure to Daniel was the sloppy looking press session when this photo was taken ( the whole thing seemed a bit cheap by comparison to other unveilings) If I had seen the V2 Craig from the outset I would not have been so worried. Perhaps it was all a ploy and Eon knew what they were going to do all along.

Full marks to Daniel, however as the second (later) photo blows the other one out of the water, and frankly I don't think it matters much how it has been achieved, I have just been a bit surprised that it has taken so long to be noticed/discussed.

It is true that most star's weights will fluctuate a bit. Flying makes one retain water, so does a certain meal if one is dieting, like DC obviously does. On a set, it is hard to find the right foods, and perhaps he indulged in something that was sodium filled, hence the bloating. Look at DAF DVDs, Connery seems to fluctuate 10 lbs, and mostly in the facial area. Yes, helooked bad in most of the film, but in the scenes with M and Sir Donald, and the elevator fight with Franks, he looks very good.
Bodybuilders fly out to shows days before to let their bodies re hydrate properly. Remember, DC is quite lean, so any fluctuation in sodium shows in the face first. Who knows if he had a little liquid assistance to stay rock hard and lean too? The come down period from such drug use usually results in a loss of homeostasis, and bloating occurs. Just a thought...

Craig was rumored to have taken HGH (human growth hormone) to pack on the size for CR, depending on what you belive, this is quite evident in a few scenes for CR,mainly the one where hes sat being tortured by le chifre you can clearly see what is known as a sistic bowel or "HGH belly" this is hwere the intestines and organs grow causing the stomach to become a small dome. other known side effects are the increase in bone density which cause the cheek bones and jaw to become more pronounced. as a personal trainer myself from looking at his physique i would sugest this has caused his face to change, but who cares the guys still a **** hero:D

Brosnan doesn't change much between those two pictures.... All that changes is the facial hair. Brosnan's "metamorphisis" was simply more of him getting older, where Craig's appearance would change a lot during the course of one movie....

Brosnan really only changed from GE to TND's when he packed on alot of weight to be more believable as an action hero, it wasnt muscle weight, just weight in general as you can tell his face was alot fuller and his jawline nearly disappeared in TNDs as opposed to his lean look in GE.

Agreed. In fact you could see it as a positive in as much as no actor has done more to ensure that he can deliver in the role. It clearly took a lot of work and effort and shows real commitment.
