Susannah York has died of cancer at the age of 72. She was a very beautiful woman and a talented actress, but to me--and to most people my age, I guess--she'll always be Lara, the mother of Superman. Rest in peace, lovely lady.

Jack La Lanne, the man who helped transform physical fitness into an American obsession, has died at the ripe old age of 96. I'd tell him to rest in peace, but I doubt if he's just resting in that Great Gym in the Sky.
John Barry...Truly a major loss, not only to the Bond world, but to the entire world of music. I always secretly hoped he would score one more Bond picture. RIP
I imagine that very soon, as word of Barry's passing gets around, this thread will be many pages longer than it is right now. We have lost a true giant in the world of cinematic James Bond. If I were to create a "Mount Rushmore" of people who stand above all others in terms of being contributors who truly laid the foundation for the most enduring and successful film franchise in history, it would include six people:

John Barry RIP. His scores lent the Bond movies gravitas. The films were always lighter than the Fleming novels - FRWL in particular, but Barry's scores gave them a sort of brooding menace and natural beauty. A film like Moonraker, which I happen to like, is made wonderful by the cinematography and Barry's sombre music. But he brought different styles to each of this Bonds in the same way that no Beatles album is the same.

I tip my hat and salute the immortal John Barry, one of the most vital parts of classic Bond, and a GIANT reason it was unique. The man was irreplacable.
On a sad note personally, I've just returned from the vet after putting down my lovable cat Kato. He was 16.

Thanks everybody. I couldn't stand to see him suffer anymore.
When I named him, some of my friends thought I was referring to OJ's famous house guest! Ummm, no... I guess some weren't familiar with the Green Hornet.

Sorry to hear about Kato. After 16 years, that has to be difficult...
Sorry to hear that Alex - 16 years is a long time.... and loosing a well loved pet is always hard.
Have a stiff drink - it always helps -{

the man was a miracle. survived two strokes, yet managed to keep on writing his novels.
I feel like I've lost part of my childhood.
RIP, Father Abbott (for those of you who've read the books, you'll know what I mean)...we'll miss you.
