Fine piece on nature of addiction by former addict Russell Brand, who lived on Amy Winehouse's stomping ground of Camden Town - surely not a good place for any addict to get away from former habits.
Ironically--or appropriately--I first heard the news Saturday on my car radio as I was driving out of town to attend a funeral. As others have said, a very sad waste of talent. . .but I really can't say I'm surprised.

MSNBC reports Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her apartment, she certainly had her issues, but she also had a great voice.
RIP
Well...I've obviously been off the grid; just now hearing about this. Very sad. I have the CD, the one with "Rehab" on it. Great stuff. She could have/should have done a Bond. Pity things had become so unraveled when the opportunity came.
Poor young lady made the ironic Hendrix/Joplin/Morrison/Cobain age of 27. Sometimes that which burns so brightly also burns so briefly. Rest in peace.

Stan Barstow, famous for A Kind of Loving, an early 1960s novel about a Northern lad, Vic Brown, who gets smitten with a typist while working at the draughtsman's firm, with none too happy consequences. Only finished the third in the 'trilogy' last year, though it's really the original that makes it, the other two seemed like add-ons. A big impact on me when I was a teenager. Made into a film with Alan Bates. Barstow was 83.
C'mon guys, Jerry Leiber... Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock... Stand by Me. One of those you'd thought would have been gone decades ago. Outlives Elvis, Lennon and Amy Winehouse.
Won't mean much to young 'uns, or Yanks, but music journo Tom Hibbert died aged 59 ish. He was behind the funny Who the Hell Does Such and Such Think He Is interviews for Q magazine back in the 1980s/90s. Son of historian writer Christopher Hibbert.
Cliff Robertson, a truly GREAT actor, died, just one day after his 88th birthday. He won the Best Actor Oscar for the title role in Charly, was one of the last surviving villains from the Adam West Batman series (he was "Shame"), and was known to younger viewers as Uncle Ben in the Spider-Man trilogy. Rest in peace, sir.
In high school I brought the movie Charly into social studies and we watched Cliff Robertson in his oscar winning role. My teacher was delighted since we were reading Flowers for Algernon at the time. I remember a few chuckles in class at a cleavage closeup. Ah, youth.
RIP Cliff Robertson. Awesome actor.
And I was also extremely saddened to hear of Andy Whitfield's death from Hodgins disease. To pass on just a few months before your 40th birthday makes one cry at the seeming injustice in this world. However the man faced it with dignity.
RIP Andy Whitfield. A searing performance as Spartacus.
Apple founder Steve Jobs has died. Why should you care? Well, think of that next time you're playing "Angry Birds" on that iPhone of yours. . . RIP to a great inventor/innovator.

No doubt his projects drove tech competition more than anyone else in recent years. He will be missed as I type from my Mac that has helped me share and live in the biggest and smallest of ways.
RIP Steve Jobs and thank you.

Deeply Saddened by the death of Steve Jobs. I love all things Apple. I hope Apple can continue Jobs legacy of bringing us Innovative products. I also type this from my MacBook Pro, while listening to my iPod. In the market for an iPhone also and will probably buy an iPad soon. Yes, I'm a Apple junkie. R.I.P. Mr. Jobs, you will be missed!
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
This is a really sad day. While I always thought that Steve Wozniak was something of an unsung hero of Apple, there is no denying that Steve Jobs was that kind of visionary who comes along once in a very long time. His design philosophies fundamentally changed the way we look at and use technology and even live our everyday lives. It is always a tragedy when someone with that kind of world-changing vision leaves us. R.I.P.

He was ahead of his time.
A great quote of his was, when speaking of children... "It's your heart running around outside your body"
A real true great man of our time.
And to think that prob 75% of people reading/hearing of his death was on one of his inventions. -{

RIP to both Davis and Baker. George Baker not only contributed to the Bond series, but he was excellent as Emperor Tiberius in I, Claudius, conveying a mixture of ruthlessness, sleaziness, and pettiness.
