    Agree TP.

He always came across as a thoroughly decent, warm and generous human being, which has been backed up by the many tributes from those who knew him. RIP

Oh my god. Just yesterday I spent the afternoon with my partner and her younger brother watching the three Austin Powers movies — none of us had seem them for a while so we thought it would be a fun and relaxing Saturday afternoon. What timing :# RIP Verne

Margot Kidder was THE Lois Lane--spunky, no-nonsense, and a lot of fun! RIP, ma'am.

Sad to hear of her death. I liked her in The Amityville Horror (1979).

lets watch that rooftop interview scene one more time
that's not quite how I pictured Lois Lane when I read the comics as a kid, but c'mon, what kind of questions would you expect a grown woman to ask Superman if she had him alone on her patio on a warm starry night?

The relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane in some way foreshadowed that of Harrison Ford and Karen Allen in Raiders. Of course, Allen went on to have her problems too.

Reeve really was great in that role wasn't he? Odd he never went on to be a major Hollywood player, but those were the days when once you got branded as Bond or Superman, that was your lot. It's not like that now, these kind of films are a sort of sideline and the stars alternate between the Hollywood product and Oscar bait with ease.

Yeah, Margot Kidder was a great Lois Lane and represented a new sassy heroine just as Carrie Fisher did in Star Wars. Got shafted in Superman III though didn't she? The producers cut her out and took over the reins - that went well, didn't it?

Yesterday Tom Wolfe died--he was certainly one of the best writers of fiction and non-fiction in America: he gave us The Right Stuff, a new kind of journalism, and added some phrases to the American lexicon like "radical chic," "flak catching," and "The Me Decade"--and he appropriated "Masters of the Universe" to apply to Wall Street investors. You also may have caught his caricature on a couple of episodes of The Simpsons. A great voice silenced.

I bought his Casablanca poster for my Dad just a few weeks ago. But he must have been very young when he created it.

For the second time inside of a week, the U.S. has lost a great author--Philip Roth has died at 85. They say these things come in threes. . .if there's another legendary octogenarian novelist in the New York area I'd say my prayers. . .

Does Toni Morrison live in New York?

Don DeLillo lives in the New York area. Another possibility.

Is Cormac McCarthy (84) safe in Rhode Island?
He should have won the Nobel for novels like "The Road" or "Blood Meridian" years ago.

ooh, I don't think its in good taste to be laying bets as to which famous New York based author will be next.
Anyway Stan Lee (95) moved to Hollywood decades ago, so at least the most important one is safe.

It's hardly betting. BTW: I've heard the Nobel Academy, the body that choses the winners for the Nobel prize in literature, disliked Americans for years and didn't want American authors to win. If that was true it's a shame. True or not, the old Academy is gone. They have destroyed themselves and the king will likely appoint new members. Haven't read the other authors mentioned above, but McCarthy would be a worthy winner. So would John Irving.

I was sorry to read that Peter Byrne died a few days ago aged 90. UK viewers will remember him as DC Andy Crawford in the long running TV series Dixon Of Dock Green.

RIP to movie poster artist Bill Gold, who designed the movie posters for Casablanca, Dirty Harry, For Your Eyes Only and more.

Also congratulations to Sean Bean on getting a BAFTA, one of my friends from college is a big fan of his. I am sure she is really happy for him.

Here's another one you're sure to be interested in TP:

    Minder Pub Landlord Dies

Glynn Edwards, though I must admit I thought he'd died years ago. Perhaps I was thinking of the pub landlord in Only Fools and Horses. Edwards was also in a few 60s cult TV Avengers episodes.

RIP Glynn Edwards.Yes he was a regular face on many 60s shows, still shown on itv4. One of my poor impressions is his greeting in Minder
