I'd say do the next Bond film based on that of an unmade Bond film from the 1970s that focused on sharks poised on attacking Manhattan. The script for it recently fetched hundreds of thousands in auction.

Well if the next Bond film takes place entirely in New York they should call it 007 in New York or 007 visits New York.

Not to sound too disrespectful, but I think 007 in New York, despite being the name of an original Ian Fleming piece, is an awful title. It sounds like Ernest Goes to Jail. Imagine if Casino Royale had been titled 007 in Montenegro.

The title needs to be something sleek and nasty . . .

A Sparkle That Kills

Filming Locations: Africa(Lesotho), Canada(Yellowknife), US(Arkansas) and Austrailia(Kimberly)

Antagonist: A conflict diamond merchant and his private group is hellbent on controlling the world. He kills off all his competition and now owns all the diamond mines in Africa and Canada. JB has to go undercover as a diamond specialist and infiltrate the group.

Villains(Henchman): Female named Sparkle Elaine Darkle (Melanie Chisholm maybe?) who is a fashion expert and model but deadly with a gun and H2H combat. Male nicknamed Zimba Zumba(don't know if its real name or not but DEFINITELY PLAYED BY LAWRENCE TAYLOR with senegalese accent if he ever speaks..) kills his target then stuff a diamond in their mouth as his signature.

Felix: I like the current Felix so he stays.

Q: A younger Q please, someone who would know extensively about technology...and LOOKS like he does. Also he needs to have chemistry with Bond... that's IMPORTANT!

All the bond girls in this film: Christina Milan, Hayden Panettiere, Lenora Crichlow(Main), Rachael Taylor

Final death scenes: After an intense throwdown in one of the diamond mines Bond stuff Zimba Zumba's mouth with diamonds making sure he swallows, then Zimba Zumba and main antagonist(Bruce Payne with a South African accent maybe?) both fall to their death in the Depths of the mine.
Swallowed a substantial amount of diamonds, then fell to his death, buried deep in a diamond mine.

I think we definetly need to dump either "kill" or "die" from any future title. We just have one too many death references in title lately.

Any of the unused Fleming titles (well, maybe not 007 In New York), or one of the titles Fleming considered but rejected.

Edit: One or two of Gardner's weren't bad.

I don't think EON has the legal right to use any of the Gardner titles which were not bad at all.

SeaFire might be an interesting one, going back to the megalamania plots of old, but you had just mentioned about Gardner's books not being used.

I thought Ian Fleming wrote the short story and after he died, it was simply given that title, despite Fleming never having used it.

"The Property of a Lady" would be a fine title. It has a suggestion of mystery and a touch of eroticism. An auction is held in some foreign country and a piece is sold that MI-6 wants very badly. This item was thought to be lost until it surfaced at this auction. Bond's job is to retrieve the piece in question. This piece is basically a McGuffin, serving as a target for Bond. We could get to see Bond do some actual spying for a change. Along the way 007 has to deal with a number of people who also want the sculpture, illuminated manuscript or whatever. The CIA send Leiter and Bond and Felix eventually team up to find and retrieve it. Along for the ride is a mysterious woman who may or may not be working for the other side.
This may be a little Hitchcockian for a Bond film but I think it has promise. I fully realize of course that a similar theme was used in Octopussy(the film) but we could avoid the super strong henchman, the scantily clad circus acrobat commandos and the yoyo yielding goons in black diapers.

Or kill. In fact, how about Eon not come up with a title themselves. There are only two titles which have absolutely nothing to do with Fleming; Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day (the other titles were either based on Fleming novels/stories, took their name from a phrase used by Fleming, was named after his home or were named after Bond's family motto.) Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day are IMO the two worst titles in the history of the Bond films. The producers should not try to be creative. I think they should stick with a Fleming-connected name, because whilst not all of the Fleming-connected titles were good (The Living Daylights and Quantum of Solace were IMO the joint second worst Bond film titles of all time), chances are that whatever Fleming-connected title thay choose would be alot better than anything they come up with themselves.

I really wished they used Tomorrow Never Lies as originally intended, a clever in itself because that is a lie.

My personal suggestion, as fellow Bond fan once pointed out, would be SHATTERHAND.

BTW, I love THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and QUANTUM OF SOLACE titles, especially the latter which did take some getting used to.

That would be fantastic, complete with the Japanese castle and the garden of death---just the right amount of trademark Bond outlandishness, played deadpan as in Connery's best Bond pictures. As blueman so frequently points out, they could toss in the unused squid from DN B-)

My fear would be some tacky CGI beast. However The Garden of Death could be used in the same way as that the treacherous guantlet Bond had to run in DN.

It's all in the execution, of course. A lot of darkness...and unseen creature, except for a tentacle or two...would make the difference.

I remember suggesting Shatterhand some time ago. I still think it would be a great title. I like "Property of a Lady" for the reasons I've already listed, its eroticism, mystery, etc. Shatterhand would have more impact like Thunderball or Goldfinger.
I agree that once you move away from Fleming inspired titles like TND and DAD you enter into the realm of the corny. These might be good videogame titles like "Everything or Nothing", but let's keep the films Fleming inspired.

I honestly don't think their is a single Fleming title left that sounds good. POAL is best of them but it seems so "meh".

I'm surprised Risico hasn't been brought up yet, unless I failed to spot it in the thread. It brings up an interesting topic to me - the title doesn't necessarily have that ring that a modern Bond movie needs nowadays to bring in the big bucks, (of course the fans would attend regardless) and the title shouldn't play a big part in the success of the film, but of course it does. It's almost too exotic for audiences nowadays, as crude as that sounds. I think it could be pulled off if the trailers leading up to the announcement of the title did a fair bit at explaining it, unlike Quantum, which rather left us to our own devices.

Risico is a fine title and sound like what you would expect a Bond movie title to sound like. To me sounds a lot more logical than The Hidlebrand Rarity or however it's spelled.
