10 Questions about the future of Bond

JarvioJarvio EnglandPosts: 4,241MI6 Agent
1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
I think that one day (although not for years yet) Bond will be killed off. I think this will be the ultimate way to end the series.

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
Yes I do. But not for a while yet. 10 Years at least anyway. And as said above, Bond dying would be the way to end it (or maybe just Bond retiring).

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
It will definitely happen. Again, would be an end of series thing.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
They definitely will, and I think in maybe just a few films time. I think they will both return as soon as somebody else is casted as Bond. They probably wont feature in any DC films.

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?
I think for 4 films in total. Maybe 5 at a push, but no more than that.

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?
I'm personally not sure if there will, but I think we'll definitely get a mixed race Bond at some point.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
Hopefully next film, otherwise there will be trouble! X-(

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
I think not. But I do think there will be a Blofeld-like character as the head of Quantum.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?
I think yes for all except 007INY. I'm hoping Bond 23 will be Risico, TPOAL, or THR. I think maybe they'll use a title that slightly resembles 007INY, but not word for word.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
I think that towards the end of the series, we learn more about Bond's family. Who knows, maybe his brother could be the main villain that kills Bond!

What are everyone elses answers to these 10 questions?

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
No. I don't think that he ever will be, if only because doing so would kill off the golden goose. The producers will always, I imagine, allow themselves an opportunity to resurrect the Bond films, even if they are going through a rough patch and are rested.

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
No. I think the series will be rested from time to time, but it will never end. The breaks might become bigger and bigger at times, but as Bigzilcho often says, the series will last until eternity! :D

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
No. I think (and hope) that is a line that the producers simply will not cross. DAD with the VR stimulated sex, hopefully was as close to crossing the line that the producers ever get, and I doubt they will cross it. They would have to be pretty ignorant of history to do so.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
Yes. Probably in a couple of films. I would say Bond 24 at the earliest and no latest than Bonds 25 or 26. I can't imagine them rushing in Q and Moneypenny in the next film and to delay their return well past Craig's tenure would be highly illogical, to say the least.

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?
I agree with you. I think he will make four films, possibly five, but I imagine he'll step down after Bond 24.

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?
No. Just as there will never be an American Bond, I can't imagine there will be a black or mixed-race Bond. Personally, I think that this whole issue (such as P Diddy talking about playing Bond) is a non-issue. I can't imagine Bond ever being black, just as Shaft will never be white.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
"Hopefully next film, otherwise there will be trouble! X-(" I completely agree with you. :D

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
No. As you said, there might be a Blofeld-like chracter as the head of Quantum, but I don't think that Blofeld will return, assuming even that legally he is able to return. I will say this though; if he is able to return and does so, he will almost certainly be different to the YOLT Blofeld due to the Austin Powers films.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?
Yes and no. Risico and TPOAL will almost certainly be used. THB might possibly be used, but I'm less convinced; personally I don't think it's a great title for an action thriller. I don't think that 007 in New York will be used, however they might fit it in by having Bond go to New York, and M (or another character) mentioning to someone else that 007 is in New York.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
Why not? They already have been (GE), so they might be brought into it again.

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
Not a chance. If Fleming couldn't do it (and he tried), neither can Eon ;)

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
Well, yes...but only because the world will eventually end, as well. Cubby Broccoli's famous reply to this question, often quoted by bigzilcho, was that the series would run "until doomsday!" B-)

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
I think they should---in #23, before they realize that they work together. I think it would be a great way to freshen up the premise.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
Moneypenny for sure. I'm not 100% convinced that Q---at least, as he's been portrayed previously---is necessary.

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?
Until he gets bored with it...which could be any time. Any Bonds he does, after #23, will be a bonus IMHO.

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?
It's possible, but I hope not. Such a thing would smack of political correctness, and Bond should never be that.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
Right at the beginning of #23; the first of many more traditional Bond elements in that picture ;)

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
No...but they've an opportunity to do something interesting with a supervillain, re: Quantum---at some point.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?
Everything except "007 in New York" will eventually be used.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
Yes...in fact, I expect we'll get to see the death of his parents at some point (either as a flashback, or as a PTS)...and it will be tied in with the mysterious character of Hannes Oberhauser, in a Bond film which will feature eye-popping mountain-climbing sequences B-)

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?

    No, too much money involved.

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?

No, Bond seems to have eternal life and continues to develop young fans.

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?

No, not as long as Bab's is calling the shots.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?

Moneypenny yes, and I would like that. Q, no not as he existed before, which I am OK with.

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?

As I have mentioned before, Craig does not have Roger Moore's fountain of youth looks, therefore I see one more and that is it. Which is also OK with me.

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?

No, and there shouldn't be, if they do have one, I won't be seeing it.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?

Hopefully next film, I miss it and hate it at the end.

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
I think that would be cool, if done right. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they remade some of the older films someday.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?

    Yes for all except 007INY.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?

No, and I don't think they should, to be honest I am not interested in his family.

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
No. He's to much of a screen legend.

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
Not officially. As someone else said, it might be put on the shelf for 20 years or so, but then brought back.

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
    No. Playful flirting works better.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
    Yes. Hopefully sooner than later.

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?
I think he'll step down after the 4th film.

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?
No. EON may try a spy series with a black actor, but he won't be named James Bond.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
    Hopefully the next film.

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
No. With the Austin Power films using a Blofeld like charector in a comedy, EON will hopefully use a main villian with a different name. Mr. White works for me right now.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?
Yes. Except for 007 in New York. I think they'll use the title in a different way. Maybe using a neighborhood in New York in the title.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
No. And they shouldn't be. I'm not to concerned about Bonds family. I want to see Bond going up against a villain then defeating the villain in the end. I don't want family issues getting in the way.

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
    No

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
Yes it will end sometime, nothing lasts forever. But I don't believe it will end in my lifetime.

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
No. Not "getting it on" will preserve the tension and playfullness.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
Yes. Perhaps one of them will return as soon as in the next movie?

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?
I think for 4 films in total. Maybe 5 at a push, but no more than that. Perhaps Craig will make the "Quantum quadrilogy"?

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?
At the point of history when a coloured person can be naturally considered part of an english noble family.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
    In the next movie.

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
No. That story is over. The producers are doing the right thing by creating something new, but bondian.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?
Yes. Titles such as The Property of a Lady, The Undertaker's Wind, Risico, A Whisper of Hate will be made at some point. The next Bond will probably have a Flemming title since they have gone far (QoS) in the past to use Flemming titles for Craig.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
I'm guessing it's one of the unofficial "rules" not to do it. But, perhaps one day ....

What are everyone elses answers to these 10 questions?
Silly and uninformed. Well, not everyone. Those who agree with me are smart and wellinformed.

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
No. He is too popular to be killed off, even Fleming himself could not do it in the book series.

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
Possibly as movie franchises go people sooner or later want to see something new. Better to quit while their ahead rather than keep going.

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
    No.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
Yes. Probably in a couple of films. I would say Bond 24 at the earliest given the want by fans.

It would be like having a black Superman.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
"Hopefully next film, I really missed not seeing it during the opening of QOS.
8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
No. As you said, there might be a Blofeld-like character as the head of Quantum, but I don't think that Blofeld will return, assuming even that legally he is able to return.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
No Maybe a passing reference like Goldeneye, but I doubt they will show a flashback of Bond as a boy with his family.
Besides he never really was the sentimental type.

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
Not in the foreseeable future. That sounds like fanfiction.

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
Not until the entertainment industry as we know it ceases to exist.

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
    No.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
Moneypenny, yes. Q, no, it wouldn't feel right.

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?
Four or five movies, easily, a sixth at a push.

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?
Why not? M is a woman and Felix Leiter is black without the world blowing up, and it would be another good "up yours" to Ian Fleming's imperialistic and racist leanings. Less ridiculous and insipidly PC than a Afro-Caribbean Friar Tuck. Hey, a future version of Bond in half a century's time could even be unabashedly homosexual. :v

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
It was only shunted back to the end of QoS, it will be as it was in Bond 23, after the production crew mixed it up a bit with CR and QoS title gimmicks.

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
Like Q, a closed chapter. Quantum should not be like the top heavy Soviet Union and SPECTRE, it is supposed to be a more shadowy and nebulous conspiracy; a multi-headed hydra with no kingpin sitting in a upholstered throne and stroking an exotic pet.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?
Risico sounds the best candidate, 007 in New York the worst.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
Maybe: Craig Bond could be an adopted son, with his real parents (a US dad and Soviet mum) perhaps being among the original founders of the Quantum organization, with his elderly mother still alive and one of Quantum's most senior members. Maybe I've seen The Empire Strikes Back too many times. :p

1 - Do you think that the character of James Bond will ever be killed off?
    I am not sure.

2 - Do you think the series will ever end?
Everthing comes to an end eventually.

3 - Will Bond and Moneypenny ever get it on?
No but Moneypenny would most likely return.

4 - Will Moneypenny and Q ever return?
Yes, both of them will someday.

5 - How long will Daniel Craig last as Bond?
Four or five films. Of course anything could happen between now and his third film.

6 - Will there ever be a black James Bond?
I am not counting on one anytime soon.

7 - When will the official gun barrel come back?
    Who cares ? :p

8 - Will Blofeld ever return?
If Moneypenny and Q return, I think Blofeld would follow.

9 - Will the remaining Fleming titles (Risico, The Propety Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, and 007 In New York) be used as future film titles?
Hopefully not because none of them are good.

10 - Will Bond's family ever be brought into it somehow?
Again I hope on the negative because I fear stupid imitators with Bond-lite personalities.

    Jarvio,

I will only answer your first question. (And thanks to Dan Same and Loeff for the tip of the hat)

Will the James Bond series ever end? I refer to the answer Cubby gave when asked how long the series will last:

    "Until doomsday."

IMO Cubby was, without doubt, question or deliberation, 1000% right. And then some.

Its a legitimate question but it is always a shock to my system when it is asked. I am shocked (positively shocked) that some Bond-fans cannot comprehend the totality of Cubby's vision.

The Bond series is absolutely unique in the annals of film history. As long as movies are being made Bond will survive, mark my words. If all goes well, you will be taking your grandkids to see Bond #40 in 2040.

There are a multitude of reasons why this character will flourish while others fall by the wayside. Bond is many things to many people. The demand will ALWAYS be there with each new generation.

And make no mistake about this fact: every new generation of male teenagers, in particular, will become fans simply because Bond taps into the deepest impulses of adolescence. As Carey Lowell pointed out in "Bond Girls Are Forever", she didn't realize how much Bond is celebrated throughout the world, especially by boys.

But, one couild argue, so are Captain Kirk and Indiana Jones. But there is a major difference between Bond and every other character.

The ultimate secret formula for Bond's phenomenal success has not been followed by other franchises and it is this: the actors change but Bond stays Bond.

Can no one else see the absolute brilliance of this conciet? Cubby and Harry PROVED that Bond can survive Sean Connery's departure. Not only did the series flourish without Sean, it confirmed their gut instinct that the audience not only will accept a new Bond, they will relish the change. Indeed, the whole essence of the series is the fact that Bond never ages (except for Roger) and the audience is a willing participant in the suspension of disbelief.

THAT, fellow Bond-fans, is the movie-making equivalent of the secret formula for Coca-Cola. And it is shocking (positively shocking) that guys like George Lucas and Joel Silver have never figured this out. Audiences are now demanding reboots but look at how many years were wasted, and hundreds of millions lost, figuring out how to revive Superman, Batman and Star Trek. Indiana Jones, by the looks of it, will not survive Harrison Ford.

Bond will outlast all of us reading this post. And that bugs some people, I know. Some fans need to place limitations on things, as if somehow the series requires a punctuation and all things are wrapped in a nice tidy package. That somehow, one will outlast Bond.

James Bond sneers at your desire for closure.

There is no closure to 007. And there will never will be..... "Until doomsday".

Cubby, wherever he is now, is having a good laugh over the notion that Bond fans doubt his prediction.

"Q, have I ever let you down?"
    "Frequently."

Two great points brought up here in my opinion.

Dan Same's "Shaft should never be white". Excellently put. It totally sums up the silly premise of a black Bond for me. Although a future EON production with a black agent would be very cool too, and I'd certainly be a viewer.

Secondly: Loeffelholz again you hit the jackpot mate with the fantastic idea of Bond and Moneypenny getting together very soon, socially and sexually THEN realising they both work for the UK's SIS. Great concept... and it ties in with the later history of chemistry, but in a hand's off kind of way.

Thanks, Alec...I envision the scene, very soon after Bond and Moneypenny's mutually-understood one night stand in Act One, M introducing Bond to her new secretary. She'd tell Moneypenny: "Miss Moneypenny, this is Double Oh Seven. You should steer well clear of him." :o :D

Of course, this notion isn't popular with those who imagine there to be a semi-rigid continuity in the first twenty Bond films, since Moneypenny at one point tells Bond "You haven't had me." As far as I'm concerned, post-CR this is a Brave New Bond World, and nothing should be off limits in terms of considering new spins on character and story.
