1:43 CR dbs model

Hey there guys,

Well its been a while since the QOS dbs's got shipped, and i'm back off my honeymoon, so i thought i'd declare the next project. Now before ya get excited and reach for ya wallet, this one is most likely not gonna be available to buy. I'll explain in a bit.

Right, so we've all ( i hope by now) seen Casino Royale, and we should all know that Aston Martin got the world record for barrel rolling a car for the stunt in the film. But what happened to the car?

Well, Aston Martin still have it, and muggins here has got pics, so i thought 'i wonder what that'd look like in 1:43 scale'.

So i'm planning on doing the beaten CR dbs. Now to do this will take alot of time getting the details right. The other aspect of it, is that 2 models will be needed to make one finished item. The time, plus the additional model will equal in a high price and thus make it unattractive to you guys. IF i did sell one, i'd be wanting at least £150 to cover mainly my time.

Now i understand, and people would be quite right in thinking £150 for a 1:43 model is a bit steep, so i wont be asking people to cough up that kinda money. in all honesty, i don't think i'll have much spare time to do a run anyways.

the thing to understand from the maker's pint of view is this;

when you do a run of models, the less you make, the more you charge. this is mainly down to exclusivity, and costs. say i respray 1 model, i have to pay for a minumum amount of paint for a start, plus i have to make jigs and other stuff just for 1 model. if i make 10, i can share the cost out over the 10 models, and thus the price comes down a bit. however, if i make 100 models, theres no exclusivity, and each model would cost literally a few quid in costs to make, so the price has to drop right down. now you may be thinking why not make 100 models for £20 = loads of profit. and heres the important bit. time.

put simply, i make small runs, and bespoke one off bits and pieces. i aint got time or space to be making 100's of models lol. im not mr corgi.

anyways, boring bit over, i'll be starting the CR dbs when the models get here and i'll post some pics in due course.

cheers people,

MG

ps, thanks for the well wishers regarding the wedding, all went well and i'm now enjoying married life loads -{

    Hi Geff! and Congrats for your new marital status. I'm new here at the ajb007, but i've admired your model making skills

    since the first time a saw your custom made 1:43 QoS Aston Martin DBS and also the 3 ones of the 1:18 scale, absolutely

    great job! Just curious, when you did those models where did you get this "quantum silver" paint? Did you mix the colour

    by yourself or did you buy it from some local carpaint specialist? Have noticed, that there's lot of differences between the

    JBCC Qos DBS and the Minichamps QoS DBS. I think minichamps model color is closer to real one than the JBCC DBS. There's

    a huge difference or i'm blind as bat :)

    Kind Regards,

    Teppo

    ps. Dan, many thanks to you for your help concerning those Sideshow Premium Bond formats, just bought Roger Moore figure today :)

    hi teppo,

    cheers for the compliments!

    the real QOS dbs is painted in a 'flip' paint that changes shade in different light levels.

    this paint, 'quantum silver' is a water based paint that requires a special primer and lacquer. the paint alone costs nearly £300 for a pint! then theres the primer a lacquer! yikes!

    to get my paint, i had it custom made, much cheaper. a little trick with small scales like 1:43 is mix your paint ever so slightly darker, it'll give it a more realistic look.

    cheers,

    ok, to make the battered CR dbs, you need to 2 models to start with. this is because the dbs, in its battered state has the boot open, doors broken and the bonnet is bent open too. to get this effect right, i'll need to chop the needed panels out of one model, and chop the holes out of the other, then transplant the panels into the shell after bending them about a bit.

    you cant just use one model, because if you chop say the bonnet out, the thickness of the tool you use will create massive split lines and it'd look terrible.

    hope this makes sense.

    To answer your question...Hey Jeff maybe you could re model it to look like the flipped DBS!

    ah the v8 vantage, cool car!

    prefer the v8's manual box to the db9's paddles.

    there again, the vanq's paddle is superb. (the uprated version of course)

    take good care of that v8 paul, ya lucky git! lol

    i'll have one someday!
