Quantum of solace opening song

I honestly thought that the openning title sequnce for Quantum of solace was horrible, i mean for one the song was bad and for two he is just walking around in the desert with his gun pointed at nothing i dont know what do you guys think about it.

I've thought for a few years now that they could drop the opening titles from the movies and just put the credits over some plot scene like the build up to the villans opening attack on some complex.As for the QOS titles I agree they didn't have much variety in subject as you say, just Bond walking across the desert waving his gun around, or mabey he was looking for the singers to put them out of our misery.

I disagree. The song was a lot like the film: Fast and raw, but still bondian. I don't think all Bond songs should be ballads where the female singer tries to hold the high note as long as possible. Goldfinger was great, but has been done badly laterer on. Sand has never before been used as a theme for the visuals before, and it worked great. Bond hitting something when he shoots is important in the plot itself, but this is the titels ....

It was also great having back the nude ladies!

True sand has not been used before, but then custard,milk and eggs also haven't been used but I'll look forward to seeing them in the next mark 12 title sequence,and in a riffle range if your bullet hits the sand then you've missed the target,sums up the titles for me,But I'm glad some people enjoyed them.I don't hate the song as much as when I first heard it,but it still sounds like very much like a tagged on second choice.And I do agree it's great to have the nude ladies back.

I think the consensus has been that Another Way to Die was a strong challenge to Madonna's Die Another Day as the stinkburger Bond title song of all time, but I have to say that it's actually grown on me upon repeated listenings with David Arnold's score, which I admire greatly. I agree with Number 24 that it's befitting a rather edgy film. I actually liked the main titles' visuals as I felt these were also befitting the style of cinematography in terms of color and texture. Let's face it, the film was smash-mouth, for better or worse.

Both the title song and main title sequence of QoS are adequate, in my opinion, but not great. I really enjoyed the main titles and song from CR, so the QoS felt like a slight letdown. But then again, I liked everything in CR better than in QoS, but I still enjoyed the new film. In a series of 22 films and counting, its difficult to produce a winner everytime, and allround QoS did enough to keep the Bond ball rolling, but not to be a classic in its own right. The same goes for the main title sequence and song in my opinion - still enjoyable though

I think the song fits the movie. Another Way to Die is one of favorite bond songs. But i don't like the video.

thats odd, i liked the video, but i didnt like the song to much, kind of the opposite of you. but as i keep watching it it reminds me of how bond lives in the present all the time this song is really modern and seems like the modern bond would probably like it, too. as i now do. still like the vid though really cool, modern with a 60's spin on it.

edit; and also to add to the 60's style alicia keys really reminds me of a modern version of shirley bassey, sort of.

I have to say, I'm not a fan of Another Way To Die or the title sequence. I think the song is awfully second-rate, the lyrics are mostly nonsense and Alicia Keys and Jack White sound like their screaching over one another. I think the title sequence is just as bland as the theme. It's kind of all over the place and really has no correspondance with the film and is far less clever and concise than the usual Daniel Kleinman work. (I hope Kleinman returns for Bond23)
I know I'm probably sounding dreadfully negative, but I do think one of the major minuses of QOS was just some bad and seemingly un-deliberated descisions that let Craig's second film down and highlights the attention and detail that was put into making CR such a good film.

The sand makes sense as an important part of the movie takes place in the Atacama desert.

With those of you who didn't 'get that' I am starting to wonder if you paid any attention during the movie at all... 8-)

I think most of us understand the connection of sand and desert,It's just so boring to watch endless sandunes with Bond aimlessly walking around pointing his gun.
One of the problems with QOS IMHO are the locations all look the same which is boring to the eye,normally in a Bond you get one part of the film in a snow covered mountain range then the next part of the story takes you to a rain forest and ends up on a sunkissed beach somewhere in the world.
I too agree that the sooner D Kleinman gets back the better.

I honestly thought that casino royales was the best, it was so creative and had to much to it.
quantum of solace lacked of so much of all of the other bond intros.

You Know My Name (CR) is one of my current favourites, albeit very polarizing. Another Way To Die grew on me, but admittedly doesn't reach the same level. I certainly don't hate it as much as many do...but then again, I'm really a 'soft touch' when it comes to Bond themes... ;%

Funny, I've read a number of critic's reviews stating that the CR main title was "over-produced". I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I thought it was great, with my favorite part being when the sighted queen (I believe of hearts) morphs into Vesper. :x

I didnt really like the song You Know My Name from CR I was just to into the intro video, but the more i listened to the song I began to like it.

Have you noticed how a theme in the movies is often referenced in the title sequence? And did you by any chance notice deserts in some scenes in the movie itself?
If custard, milk, and egges ever become an important theme in a Bond film, I think we have bigger problems than the visual theme of the title sequence!

I didn't mind the song too much.

I think when you listen to the words you get a feel for the type of paranoid existence a man like Bond would have to live in to ensure he didn't get himself killed. All the things that we take for granted as being of no concern in our lives could all lead to "Another Way to Die" for a secret agent. I think in terms of a progression of the character from CR's reboot I can understand the jump being made from an agent who is just getting his name known (You Know My Name), to an agent who now must be watching his back (Another Way to Die). The two songs tie in pretty well together with the characters growth.

Not one of my favorite Bond themes but not the worst. Cough *All Time High* Cough

I liked the CR song. Unlike the QoS one, it was just awful. It had a good beginning (first few seconds) and than it's a cacophony of sucker punches to my ear drums. Alicia Keys had no place in the song at ALL!
Where are the good voices of Shirley Bassey and such. I know she is probably 72 now, but I'm whilling to bet she would have done a better job.
Don't get me wrong, I'm into the alternative music and guitars (I own a few) but that song ... ughh X-(.
I hope they can a do a better job next time.

I did sound a bit sore, didn't I? Not really the way I intended to come accross, but there you go. No reason to appologize, it sounded like I took it more seriously than I did. Imagine if everyone had been as civil as you were now during the Craig Wars!
Now let's get back on topic: do you have any serious reasons why the sand wasn't a good idea?

The titles Of QOS, I just find a little boring. If the had started with the desert then had the desert sand become the top half of an hour glass ( like OHMSS) with the falling sand turning into falling/spinning flags, which inturn lead to a section with naked ladies throwing flags around,That sort of thing (I'm not saying my idea is good) just,it would have a few more elements to keep your eye occupied as the titles roll. as the flags could have things like, Bonds coat of arms,some origional book covers from the novels, that kind of thing. This would tie in with the opening scene in the movie in northern italy.
I can understand the idea that having Bond alone in the desert shows us that he's by himself and can depend on no one, the loner. IMHO it could of been done a lot better with D kleinman's hans on the wheel.

I must admit I am not generally not found of David Kleinman, I only like his GE and CR titles. However, I think he would have done a better job for QOS.

Personally I enjoyed the visuals aspect of the opening title sequence and it makes sense to me because the movie is called Quantum of Solace, basically a time of solitary reflection, so him being alone in the desert (which is where the hotel at the end of the movie is) doesn't bother me at all. I think it's easy to see the theme they are following, CR's main plotline was the poker game so the opening sequence had casino elements, QoS the film's climax is in the Bolivian desert, thus the sand dune theme. So I'm sure that for the next one, wherever the serious drama of the film takes place will be the element we will see in the visuals.
What bothered me was no one realized how terrible, unmelodic(?) and flat Alicia Keys voice sounds in this song. The song itself is pretty good, the lyrics are relevant and the instrumentals are great (which is why is doesn't suck as bad as Madonna's DAD), but her voice annoys the crap out of me! I know that we all collectively strongly dislike Amy Winehouse, but here's where her voice substituting Ms. Keys would have worked waaaaay better for this song!

Well put. There are so many other artists out there that would have brought a bit more spirit and melody to it. I hate when they pick the flavors of the month thing. all about the $$$$ I suppose. By the way , does anyone know who made that choice?? I mean, to put her in there? we should be emailing that person with a copy of this link here.
