For those of you who don't know, Police Squad was TV series that ran only six episodes in 1982. The series later spun off into three features films under the title "The Naked Gun".

It's a shame the series was so short because it's possibly the funniest damn show ever made, here is episode 2:

Very funny stuff, but it's probably just as well that its run was short---it would have been impossible to maintain. Classic B-)

When the second (or maybe third) Naked Gun movie came out, CBS re-ran all six episodes. I vaguely remember watching them. The movies are classics though.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

The executives cancelled it basically because they felt it was too fast paced, dead serious. *sigh*

Though I will admit this show has a "fault". They throw so many gags at you you don't have time to recover from the last one. Sometimes you even miss a gag or two. This was "dumb comedy" but it was executed with such an insanely sharp wit you would have to be on your toes to get everything in one viewing. It's amazing how this TV series appeared in 1982 when comedy in TV and film was getting watered down. This was on par with Sid Caesar's Show of Shows.

BTW note the director of this episode, Joe "Gremlins" Dante.
