    Connery, Thunderball build and hair with a touch of Dalton in the facial features, minus the bum chin but with his eyes and pale colouring.

    When reading the Bond novels, I imagine myself, ... Reading the Bond novels. :D
    I don't see any of the actors, but I imagine, someone like Richard E Grant. -{

    No, I don't see Richard E. Grant at all.

    I certainly can't see Richard E Grant winning a fight with many of the villains.

    Luck you don't imagine him then :)) he does just fine in my imagination. ;)

    When I'm reading the books, I see Connery (I might just have mentioned this before), but sometimes I see Fleming himself and just sometimes Dalton (who is basically a better-looking version of Fleming). That's it. I never see any of the other actors, even in the relevant scenes.

    If I'm reading a Fleming Bond, then I picture Dr No Connery. But if I'm reading a Gardner Bond, I picture DAF Connery.

    Book Bond is either Connery or Lazenby for me. I can't imagine any of the others, try as I might.

    I always picture Moore, because of his safarisuit :D Because there some safariscenes in FYEO (short stories) and SOLO. And if I don't, I see this picture, only then with colour 270?cb=20130506225418

    When reading the Fleming books I sometimes picture a cross between Connery and Lazenby. (I picture Connery until the Hoagy Charmichael description, then it's closer to Lazanby).

    Gardner's books were always Roger Moore circa MR or FYEO, but able to throw a punch.

    Benson's books...I honestly can't remember. Too dull to leave an impression, I guess.

    Nope. For me it's always the Daltonator. Mostly.

    It's pretty much how I picture the literary Bond too. :) -{

    Just finished Casino Royale. I picture a different person, most similar in looks to Dalton, but a sort of film noir figure of a type that you probably couldn't get nowadays.

    I always imagine a Richard E Grant type of guy, as I think he's
    Very close to the famous drawing of Bond.

    Not Hoagy Carmichael :) He doesn't look dark enough for noir. And doesn't it say in Casino Royale that Bond doesn't think that he looks like him? So even if he did resemble him facially, Bond doesn't identify with him.

    I think a young Ralph Fiennes would be closest to how I imagine him. Good-looking but can look cold; the paradoxical quality of beautiful/cruel hasn't really been captured fully by any of the Bond actors- which is great because it leaves a lot of scope for Craig's successor. I can't think of current actors that do this but Ralph Fiennes was excellent at playing that (Schindler's List is a good example but there's others- The English Patient and Wuthering Heights spring to mind).

    I would like to see the scar because I think it shows the 'ugliness'- if they could do it well.

    Mostly Connery especially in Dr No which I've just finished. I had Dalton in mind when I read The Living Daylights though as that sniper scene is so suited to him.

    I'm still of the opinion Fleming was describing his brother to some extent as he was probably jealous of his "leading man" looks. It's probably why he wrote some thought Bond resembled Carmichael to a degree but Bond did not due to his scar and what he perceived to be a more emotionally hardened appearance.

    I always thought this picture looked like a young Peter Cushing with a dash of Christopher Casenove...

    I have always pictured a very specific face when reading the novels and had a nagging feeling of recognition. Today I finally realised who it is. Randomly appearing on my twitter feed was the picture below. My initial thought was "holy ****, that's my James Bond" before realising who it is.

    It's Alec Guiness:
