Moonraker Laser Rifle Parts ID

Hi Guys!!!

I've been trying to identify the parts used on the Moonraker Laser rifle. Some of the parts, obviously, are "real world" items that have been added to the base gun (an UZI submachine gun)

Notice that the front "barrel" has some type of writing on it. Appears to be made of plastic or PVC. Can anyone squint better than me and make out what it says?

I've enhanced, darkened and inverted the colors but still can't read it.....anyone read or recognize it or any of the other parts?

...and yes, that rear part DOES look like a shark...LOL

I have a feeling that the front of the Moonraker Lazer gun's Nozle / Barrel is made from a vintage Garden Hose attachment or nozzle

    Garden_Hose_Starter_Set_Large.gif

if you look at the similar bumps and shape, and design. I have a feeling its fashioned from 1 / 2 different attachments stuck together backwards.

    Hose_Fitting.jpg

I have posted the images above, just to show you a similar style and shape, these are pictures of modern day fittings available to buy. But I am betting it was a vintage one from the time of the movie used or an older fitting.

I just have a feeling by looking at it and thinking I have seen similar things before in this trype of garden product.

''Hey Bond! Do you do any gardening ?" :))

In fact it looks as if it has been moulded from a rubber shape of some sort maybe a wooden shape was made up according to some designs and a mould was made to produce a few, as there was quite a few Lazer Guns seen in the film

Ok after looking around in the garage and finding some parts and an Old UZI machine gun in a box of junk exact to the model used for the original film prop, I am going to mock up a replica. Thanks for the picture Ed, a great help :)

You may not be that far off...I'm thinking it's a check valve.
Obviously a different one as the prop was built in the UK.
Look around your plumbing supply stores...you may find it!!!

well I am going to have a mooch around as I need to get some parts together to make this replica. but I think we may just find the correct front for the gun.

I was watching the film earlier. and I noticed in the pic you have above of the gun on display at planet hollywood in London I think it is. the trigger shape / loop is missing. i know they repliced the trigger with a button.

what is the deal with the other Moonraker lazer guns. like the one Holly is using to shoot Drax's men in the space station and the one Drx picks up to shoot Bond with at the end. they look like old ATARI and SAGA gun's with the fronts modified

also I take it some of the Lazer Gun / UZI conversion models were made in black aswell and not just white as this image shows

Someone over on the RPF board suggested that the scope mount on the Laser rifle may be some type of tabletop G-clamp.

Makes sense since there are holes on the base of the part to screw it down plus that threaded rod would be appropriate if it were some type of clamp.

I think we're on the right track here.

In doing a google search I came across this apple peeler. I know...I KNOW...it's NOT the part we need but the idea of it resembles the basic theme of the part as you can see in my photoshopped pic...

    Drax's Laser/Apple peeler rifle...LOL

Interesting idea! But I believe it will be very difficult to identify this top part. ?:)
The more I look to the front barrel, the more I think it could be a radiator valve. Am I imagining that there is written ABACUSHEATING ???? :s

Definately a knob from a radiator, we had these in the house I lived in as a kid. I used one to make a lightsaber emitter when I was 12ish. If you post the pics the other way up, then the writing may be legible.

This topic drives me and other totally crazy! :))
Yesterday my wife didn't speak with me anymore because I was all evening in my study, searching the internet for this thing...
Do you live in the US or UK? Thanks

COULD be an old radiator valve. I just went through several pages. There also IS a company called ABACUS HEATING. Perhaps one of their older models.

It's only five minutes up the road, but I can hardly knock on the door and ask if I can see their radiator knobs :D If it helps, they were oriented vertically rather than horizontally like the ones in your piccy there. They were quite common models back then, so someone in the UK should have something similar.

Abacus doesn't ring a bell, maybe electrolux or dimplex?

Believe it or not...I googled Abacus Heating and found that pic on their website.
