The Simpsons Vs Futurama Vs Family Guy Vs American Dad Vs King Of The Hill Vs South Park! Let's rank order these cartoons.

Here's what I think:

1 - Futurama
Love it! I think it's by far the most original of the 6, it's full of great, futuristic ideas, and I really enjoy what storylines they use. Also think Professor Farnsworth is funny as hell, and my all time favourite character on a cartoon. It's funny, but not over the top (humour-wise), and the storys are cleverly done. I do prefer the early episodes, but I still feel there is great promise in the show, and am looking forward to the new series next year!

2 - The Simpsons
This is likely to naturally rank high with most people. Can't ignore the classics. Me and The Simpsons go back a long time. The only thing that is jeopordising The Simpsons of the number 1 spot is the fact that the later episodes are really, really awful. What the hell happened? It's almost unwatchable now. The new writing is so poor. Having said that though, the 'classic' episodes are gold, and this cannot be ignored, which is why The Simpsons still maintains a high rank on my list.

3 - Family Guy
If most of my friends were reading this, then they'd expect Family Guy to be top of my list, because they know how much I enjoy it and laugh my head off at it. In my opinion, Family Guy is by far the FUNNIEST of the 6. However, that doesn't make it the best. The nostalgia I have with Futurama and The Simpsons isn't yet there with Family Guy (maybe in a few years though). Also, Family Guy can sometimes be too much - what with the stretched out jokes and overly long songs. Still though, due to how hillarious it is, Family Guy gets a respectable number 3 position.

4 - King Of The Hill
More nostalgia here. I used to watch King Of The Hill loads back in the day. Sadly though, I'm bored of it now. But I can't ignore the laughs I got, especially from Boomhauer! Good show with neat stories. Later episodes don't seem as good though. But on a whole, falls into the OK category.

5 - American Dad
This is ok. I have to admit, American Dad is very funny (it's gonna be, it's from the creators of Family Guy). I've had many laughs watching American Dad. However, Roger the alien is possibly the most annoying character on the planet. Also, I still think the show in general needs work. But having said that, it's a funny show that I'd gladly watch if it was on.

6 - South Park
To put it simple, it's stupid. It's gotten out of hand. Ok I admit, I have laughed loads whilst watching South Park. It IS funny. Can't deny that. But what annoys me are the STORIES. They are so stupid. It's just mad. And the voice acting is terrible, even though I'm aware it's probably supposed to be. I've had my laughs with South Park, but it deserves to be last.

What does everyone else think?

Simpsons is tops of the list for me, with its clever mix of pop culture sendups and endless cast of memorable characters. Although it hasn't been as consistently funny in recent years it can still rise to the occasion, such as the recent episode with a guest appearance by No Country For Old Men's Anton Chigurh.

Futurama is very funny but it doesn't have as good a ratio of hits to misses as the Simpsons. I must also confess to finding the Cyclopean Leela just too damn creepy too look at.

Family Guy has its moments and I like the genre references, but it often lingers on those references for far too long. Some of the humor in the show is also in questionable taste for me.

American Dad and King of the Hill do nothing for me. I've tried watching episodes of both and they uniformly leave me cold.

As for South Park, I've never gotten the appeal of the show. Its one of those shows where the concept plays better than the execution for me and I just find the plots and situations to usually be in really bad taste. Its one thing to be irreverent, and quite another to be deliberately crass and revolting. I have no use for it at all.

I've been with the Simpsons from the start - and during it's prime it couldn't be touched by any of the others listed here. The inside jokes, pop culture references, loving homages to classic science fiction and horror films. For me, the most fun of them all. And the characters? There's a future show somewhere that will be referencing them years from now.

Hate Family Guy. :) I'm in the minority here. Peter's a Homer clone. Everybody loves baby Stewie but an infant who sounds like Frasier Crane doesn't amuse me.

Never seen American Dad. Could never get into Futurama when it debuted

I'm indifferent to King Of The Hill, it's nothing special, decent, can't stand that boy's voice though.

And the best thing about South Park are the voices! ''K?" :D

Well, I used to watch South Park but lost it appeal quick. I too am not a fan of Family Guy and have never watched Futurama or American Dad. That leaves King Of the Hill. A catch a show here and a show there, but when someone at work said I sound like Hank Hill when I talk I stopped watching.

Ohh, almost forgot about the Simpsons. The show that debuted when I was in the 7th grade (1989 or 1990). And it's still going today. Wow. I don't watch it that much anymore, but when I was younger the Simpsons could not be missed. If I did miss it, it was the end of the world for me.

I like the Simpsons best, and have watched it since the begining. The trouble is, both Channel 4 and Sky show it daily, but it always seems to be the same 30 or 40 episodes out of 400!
I've seen the first couple of series of South Park, and liked most of it at the time, but I think I've outgrown that somewhat.
Family Guy has it's moments, but I just forget it's on...
King of the Hill was good for series one, but so boring now.
Futurama - I flick on but it's always the same ones over and over. The humour is a bit too obvious and over played for me.

An opportunity to write a list. :v

In ascending order: (I believe a first for me, as I almost always utilise descending order, or no specific order. ;))

6)South Park- I've never watched this show (other than a few moments here and there), and I never will. Its brand of humour doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, and the only thing of South Park that I like was Robin Williams's "Blame Canada" routine at the Oscars in 2000 (the 1999 ceremony).

5)King of the Hill- This show hasn't been on free-to-air here for years, and I don't miss it. I enjoy it, but it was always a show that I would watch only if there was nothing better on. I'm not a huge fan of this type of humour; it's just not my cup of tea (although I'm not actually a tea drinker. :)) Actually, that isn't funny in the slightest. :# Sorry about that. ;%)

4)Family Guy- I like this show, however I feel that it often relies too much on shock value. There are jokes which are funny (such as the Dr Seuss joke), I also love Stewie (Alex, your despription of him is perfect and is exactly why I love him :D) and I love Brian. He, in fact, is my favourite character on the show. That shouldn't be a surprise, since he's a talking dog (with a great voice) who's very witty and is often the least weird character on the show. :D I don't much like Peter; the show, as I said earlier, relies too much on shock value (without the humour), and it doesn't bother me if I miss an episode, which I often do, such as tonight.

3)Futurama- A very good show, which whilst not particularly funny, is enormously creative. It's not among my favourite shows, however I really admire it, and I always have a terrific time when I watch it. Oh, and Bender's fantastic. :D

2)American Dad- I love this show. It's extremely funny, very clever, and I absolutely love Roger. :D He's one of my all-time favourite animated characters. I think he's awesome. :D He's such a bubbly personality but with a dark side, he's incredibly funny, and I think he's an amazing creation (speaking of which, I can not believe I forgot to record American Dad tonight. :s)

1)The Simpsons- What, did you expect any different? :v The Simpsons is simply a classic. Brilliantly written, featuring wonderful characters (Homer's my favourite main character, while my favourite supporting character is Chief Wiggum), it's a show which never grows old. To me, it's also like a comfortable chair. Whilst I will not necessarily go out of my way to watch The Simpsons, when I do watch it, I know I am in for a treat. It is without a shadow of doubt one of the best TV shows of all time, and one of the extraordinary things is that, as I get older, I develop an appreciation of aspects of The Simpsons which I wouldn't have gotten when I was younger. In other words, it's an extremely sophisticated show. It's a masterpiece.

Thanks Jarvio, for this great thread. {[]

Well, lately I have been watching a lot of these shows and so decided to bump this thread.

My updated list is as follows:

1st - Futurama - Still on top for me. Just love how original and creative it is. I'm obsessed with it.

2nd - The Simpsons - New episodes are mainly bad, but the classics are classic.

3rd/4th/5th - Family Guy/American Dad/South Park - All 3 are very close. South Park has really grown on me lately. I used to watch it loads back in the day, and am just getting into it again. I love FG, although it's starting to annoy/bore me now. American Dad I have always thought was ok.

6th - King Of The Hill - Meh it's ok. A bit boring though. Anyway it's not running anymore, got cancelled late last year...

Another great adult animation I discovered lately was a show called "Archer". I've only seen 1 episode so far, but thoroughly enjoyed it. It centres around a spy, and so reminded me of Bond a bit for this reason. :D I highly reccomend this show to all!

Oh, and finally, the new show "The Cleveland Show" is simply the worst piece of horse **** I have ever seen. It's a rip-off of a rip-off of a rip-off. Take it off air!

Nooooo, it's Niles, but with the voice of Gil Chesterton.

    Classic Gil quotes (so Stewie-like)..

    Season 11 / Episode 12: - Frasier-Lite

Roz Doyle: It's weird, my skin tastes kind of salty.

Bob 'Bulldog' Briscoe: Oh, I'd say mostly sweet, but a little salty.
Roz Doyle: That wasn't me, Bulldog.
Gil Chesterton: That was me you licked. And if it happens again, I shall consider it strike one.

    and...

Bob 'Bulldog' Briscoe: We got cheeseburgers, donuts, french fries, tacos...
Gil Chesterton: And a duck confit that's as rich as Donald Trump and twice as greasy.

1 South Park - it is absolutely ingenious, there is such a great variety of charcters that are all the stereotypes and every episode gives an hilarious illustration of just how stupid people really are. All 201 episodes are just brilliant.

2 Futurama - introduces hilarious ideas of the future and contains a number of very original characters.

3 King of the Hill - unlucky to miss out on second place, it has such clever jokes and the four men are each funny in their own distinct way.

4 simpsons - the early episodes weren't great but for maybe seven or eight years, homer was one of the funniest people on tv, then it reached a stage where the hype machine was moving too quickly to be stopped and it has since been rubbish.

=5 family guy and american dad - just twinned awfulness, it may as well consist of a voice giggling and reapeating the word "random" for several minutes. Actually that would be a slight improvement
