Apropos of nothing, have to hand it to the QoS writers; all that stuff spouted by the Foreign Secretary in that film about the need for oil did seem to anticipate the way the UK is cosying up to Gaddafi of all people.

You can certainly understand why the nations of the world are calling for sanctions!!

The sad truth is, that in a country where half the people can't get the kettle on, nuclear power would change things dramatically. We take electricity for granted, but to many people all over the world, it's an unatainable dream. Yes, every country has it, but many can't deliver it or maintain it outside the city limits.
Iraq was allowed to develop nuclear power, and I know of two nuclear power stations in the far north which were part of the briefings during Desert Storm. (I hope I'm right - I never did pay much attention to Intelligence briefings...
I don't think Iran is capable of securely operating nuclear power with all the mad mullas in the country, but I do think many of the people deserve better ammenities than what they currently have.
What I think is interesting though, is the lack of awknowledgment to America's threats. Sanctions are one thing, but military intervention is quite another. There are two fronts on America's hands and a third would be it's undoing. Iran knows this, and I don't for one minute think they are scared. And that is the scariest thing of all...
