Connery Skin Diver Magazine and Voit Scuba Catalog

Here are two pieces of vintage Thunderball ephemera in my collection that go well together. Both the Skin Diver Magazine and the Voit scuba catalog were produced contemporaneous with the release of Thunderball and can be considered part of the gigantic marketing campign for that movie. Enjoy.

I recently found a scuba catalog I picked up on a visit to San Diego in 1965. It has the "Thunderball" underwater camera in it, and alot of spear guns. I thought it was pretty cool back then.... but all that stuff is pretty dated now.

I try to dig it out again and post some scans.

DG, is that a picture of the Rolex on Big Tam's wrist? Is it clearer in person?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

No, the Voit cover is not that clear. However, I'm pretty certain it's the Rolex and not the Breitling due to the strap and other magazines and photos that show the Rolex during this series of photo's. There are a ton of other magazines form this era with Connery/Thunderball covers, but the Skin Diver and the Voit scuba catalog are two of the rarest and hard to find. The relative rarity will make them quite costly to obtain.

Both the Bond speargun and the camera are advertised for sale in the Thunderball issue of Skin Diver Magazine. The camera, Calypso, (later Nikonos) is advertised in the back for $99.95.
