DAF - Should they have wasted their chace?....

Eon despite people growing bored at the spy genre should have used Connery more to make a better film. They
wasted their last chance to make another great Connery film. Leave all the campy rubbish for Roger Moore. The plot is laughable cake bomb,Bambi and Thumper I mean come one surly the fans deserve much much more than this.....

Back in 1971 things looked a bit different to the Bond producers. OHMSS hadn't done as well as the earlier films at the box-office and was criticised as too downbeat. Their solution (which was strongly influenced by United Artists, their backers at the time) was to bring back Connery at huge cost and make a lighter-hearted film. It did very well at the box-office at the time.

I love Bambi & Thumper. :D Say what you will about the film, but those two women are incredible. :x

And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

To be honest, what they should've done with this film was follow the book but keep the pre-credits sequence where Bond kills Blofield with mentions of Tracy's death and Bond killing Bunt off screen (Seeing as the actress died shortly after the film) in order to wrap up the Bond/Blofield/Tracy arc for good.
