A Bond Wedding

So I am anticipating getting married to my "Tracy" and hope to convince her to let us have "All the Time in the World" as our wedding song, maybe sneak in "All Time High" in there too. I was looking at Indy Magnoli's replicas (which are amazing) and was thinking of a 007 tuxedo for the wedding. What do you guys think of that replica as a wedding tux? It's supposed to be from Dr. No. http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/007-tuxedo-tuxedos-p-135.html

I would honestly love to have a custom replica of the one George wore in OHMSS. The white tux from Goldfinger is pretty cool, but I don't think it would be right at a wedding. Other thoughts would be a tux like the one from "License to Kill."

Then there are other thoughts like locations. What would be "Bond-ish"? One thing were are thinking of doing is having our wedding here in the states (Nebraska) but then taking our honeymoon to Europe (England and Germany where I have family) and doing small ceremonies there. Any good 007 locations there to have a "wedding"?

And if we don't go to Europe, I was also thinking that Goldeneye would be a PERFECT place to go...if I wanted an immediate divorce.

What else would you do if you could plan the perfect 007 wedding?

    Great Idea, St. John Smythe.

    As for locations:

    Piz Gloria by far!
It's even better, when there is snow. Staying in Murren and going on the mountain can't be beaten!

Cortina will also be a nice spot (summer and winter) and Venice is not far away.

If you plan to go far, consider Hong Kong and Macao. You can extend your trip to Japan (Tokyo Osato's building and the little park), Kagoshima (Tanaka's garden) and even far down south to Akime (a true adventure). When being in the area (Hong Kong), a trip to James Bond Island (Thailand) will be a highlight and a nice place for a ceremony ;)

Regarding the Tux, I'd not be keen to find a replica of a movie tux, I'd try to find a good quality one.

Regarding Magnoli, I have a different opinion to many people here on the board, but I am in a different position. My best friend is a high-end-tailor and he'll do any piece of clothing from any movie in top-notch quality for me.
I would generally go the way to a good tailor to get clothing replicated than ordering with Magnoli.

Though for the mentioned reasons, I have never ordered from him.

I'd go for the morning suit, Lazenby/Bond wore a modified version of it for the wedding sequences in OHMSS. It's a classic! on the other hand, Tracy's Pant's Suit dress is something that should be left in 68/69.

Man, those are some incredible ideas! I wish I had the 007 expense account. I think we are going to try to stick to the England and Germany areas, but that means Austria and the Alps are still in! (Maybe the bungee jump from GoldenEye...in tux and dress!)

I have a feeling that a high-end tailor who is not my best friend would probably cost a lot more than the $500 Magnoli charges, but I would love to be wrong on this. But I am really no sold on the Dr. No tux.

(Puts on Tailoring / formalwear hat)

    Hello all!

Ok JSJ - the key thing here is what is your Missus going to be expecting? the style and form of the wedding from her perspective will have an impact on you, and to a much lesser degree, what you wear.

I agree with Bondtoys - my own dinner suit / tux is a replica of Daniel Craig's Casino Royale one. - I went to a professional tailor to get it made. - Less that the Magnoli one in UK pricing. King & Allen, offer amazing bespoke quality, and style. They travel on a regular schedule to different UK cities - they come to you in a sense.
My suit fits me like a glove, and I had a fair bit of say in the sleeve width, oositions of the pockets and the feel of the cut.
    - You won't get any of those things though an online purchase. I don't know if you are in the UK, but even if you aren't there are tailors like K&A all over the world! :007)

Re DG's sigestion of Morning Dress, are you hiring or buying? - If buying, Morning Dress will only work for repeat use if you go to Ascot, meet the Queen or work as a butler! - I don't mean to be disrespectful, its a wonderful piece of men's formalwear, but in everyday terms it has minimal repeat use for most of us, even if it is done more along the lines of a conventional suit. - You won't get reuse of it again and again. A black dinner suit / tux is a different story!

If hiring? - you are using it once and once only. It makes no difference. As you can tell, I am a proponent of buying. One of Bond's great strengths is he owns his clothes he wears in more ways than one. With proper help we can all do that!

    A little reference material!

The only location advice I can give? - Bahamas for the Honeymoon. After all, thats where Goldeneye is, and Dr No and Casino Rolaye had plot points there as well as location filming. (Would love to go myself!)
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

That's St. John-Smythe. (I could not resist the line.)
I am looking to buy. I figured if I spend that much money, then I may as well own it AND wear it more than once. Most of us could really use their own tuxedo. And I think the idea is that the James Bond FEEL is the most important thing and not that is an exact replica. The lady got me a very nice watch for Valentine's Day that looks like something 007 would use but is not a replica (nor does it have a lazer). So that is good as well.

If we do go to any of these places (I would love Goldeneye), of course you will all be invited. We could parachute down! Which makes me think; I have got to have a hat!

I think Thunderbird 2 brought up a valid point. If you wear a tuxedo regularly, and you want to buy, you're definitely better off getting a regular one rather than a morning suit. You'll get more use out of the tuxedo. Nevertheless, I think the morning suit out-classes the tuxedo because it's only used for certain special occasions. It's interesting that women spend thousands of dollars on a wedding dress and only wear it once. I know this is blasphemy to females, but it would make more sense for them to rent than to buy.

  • Great point on the wedding dress. A point I will surely never bring up to The Lovely Meghan as I'm sure I will never be allowed to watch James Bond again. (I'm lucky; she will even watch "Never Say Never Again" with me; what a woman.)

This also gets me thinking, if you didn't have the money to travel to some exotic locale, how would you do a 007 proposal? If you did have the money, how would you do it? I know how I will propose to her, but I was just thinking, how would us 00-nuts do it?

Hang on, I mean, can you ask the clergyman to call you "James" and "Tracy" and the ceremony still be legally binding??

But if you are going down the Bond route, don't go faux rip-off replica, go Saville Row, Brioni or Tom Ford. With all the other authentic accessories.

And the only venues worth considering are the British Consul in Kitzbuhel (novel) and Da Vinho estate (movie)...

Excuse my cynicism, buit isn't a wedding meant to be a very PERSONAL experience for both BRIDE and groom, and not an excuse to dress up as your favourite fantasy figure?

You may want to consider renting an Aston Martin for the day do drive off like Lazenby did. It is doable in many areas of California for $1,000, not sure about your state but you can look into it.

I personally think so many weddings look the same anyway, that if you want to throw a Bond flare into it, go for it.

At least you'll still be in appropriate attire and not dressed as star wars characters.

My wife would not me let us have All The Time In The World at our wedding - she said it would jinx her (no Bond pun intended there).

However, speaking of OHMSS and the wedding have a look at me in this car:

This is me in the OHMSS DBS at the Bond Museum... I had to pinch myself when they let me do this - now that was a great day!

I did want a bit of a James Bond link to our wedding... but I didn't want it to be too over -the-top Bond. So what we did named each of the tables after Ian Fleming and each of the Bond Actors, (Connery to Brosnan as it was '94 then) and put an illustration of each of them on the tables with the floral table decorations.

Understated, but proof if any was needed that my wife humours me with all things Bond and that along with a million and one other reasons is why I love her!

  • Wow, some great suggestions! I really don't have the connections to get married at the consul. What sneaky things could I do that maybe she wouldn't know it was 007? (Good point on "All the time.." and not wanting to be jinxed.)

And thanks for letting me know about your Aston Martin.
