Church Ryder 3

New to the forum and just thought I'd and my two penneth regarding the ongoing QoS chukka boot subject.
I've long been an admirer of DC's chukka boot choice and was glad to find out the make and model of the QoS pair he used through most of the film, namely Church's Ryder 3.
I then embarked upon my quest to obtain a similar pair without the need to spend the required £285 for a pair of Ryders. First choice was the Loake Kempton, very well made but a bit pointy and the 'wrong' colour (too light).
Then Crockett & Jones' Chiltern came upon my radar due to the more rounded toe and correct colour. I ordered a pair (only available in 'E' width) and marvelled at how well built they were. I was a little suprised, however that the picture depicted on the C&J website is a bit misleading, the toe was no way near as rounded as I had hoped. Beautiful boots though, with 'that smell' coming from the excellent leathers. I had almost decided to keep the Chilterns but those damn Ryders were chipping away at my subconcious.
After several drinks one night last week, that was it, the C&J had to go back, I had to own my own Church Ryders and today they arrived.
In summary, to reiterate what many others have said on this forum, if you have a soft spot for the Ryder, you MUST sell members of the family to acquire the most spectacular footwear imaginable. They are the dogs nuts and resemble a 'boot' more so than the rather 'shoe' like competition, toe shape - perfect, fit (9.5, 'F') - perfect, profile - perfect !
I will need several more drinks this weekend to get over the shock of the bucket load of cash I have spent on them, but they will last forever and bring an altogether different level of ownership satisfaction with them, Church Ryder 3 - King of the Chukka !!!!

Yep you're correct, C&J's weigh in at £245, which was already about a ton over what I wanted to spend !!!
There's no way from a constructional point of view that the Ryders are worth two and a half times the price of the Kempton, but they are the bees knees, I shall have to live in my Ryders and sell ALL my other shoes !
Cheers
I've never owned a pair of Crockett & Jones boots or shoes but I wouldn't hesitate in making a purchase in the future as they seem to be of the highest quality also.
DC wears the C&J 'Tetbury' boots in suede & black calf leather, nice shape but more on the fashion side of things whereas the Ryder 3's come into the 'classic' autumn/winter shape.
So have you decided to purchase any other items from the Bond films?
I've had a pair of Tetbury's for almost 4 years now; they're my "bad weather" dress shoe. With Prada having bought Church's, I would actually give the edge in construction quality to C&J, especially their Handgrade line. The C&J's are definitely more sleeker looking though, which is why I'm able to double them as a bad weather dress shoe or with jeans. The Ryder 3's are definitely a casual shoe.

IMO, there's no substitute for the Ryder IIIs. If you want a pair, learn from others here, and save up the money for the real deal. You know you won't be satisfied with any other brand knowing that Bond was wearing Church's; after all, that's why we're all on these boards.
Kind regards,
Craig
