I'm at Chapter 10 now, and I have to say it's wonderful. The characters live and breathe, my fave so far being Claude. When we were on the air, I meant to ask you about casting- the only one I mentioned was that
I saw Myrna Mallory more as Mary Astor than Lauren Bacall and you didn't contradict me; which may be significant... (Obviously you'll know that Mallory was Raymond Chandler's first choice for Philip Marlowe's surname). So, my question is- which of today's actors do you see as Oscar Jade? Bruce Willis would have been my choice ten or fifteen years ago- perhaps Clive Owen...?

Oh, you need to get on my B&A page on Facebook and get this going there as well: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Blood-Ashes-The-Debut-Oscar-Jade-Thriller/101913173200968?v=app_2373072738#!/topic.php?uid=101913173200968&topic=2

Ideally, my brother (Another Loeffelholz) would play Jade...but I'd always thought perhaps Ed Norton, until I remembered he's not tall enough :# And he's a bit old now, as is Clive Owen (but if Owen could nail the American accent---a tall order!---I'd go for it).

In this book, Jade is actually still pretty young (actual age classified, although La Forno gives it away at one point ;) ). Someone I know suggested Leo Di Caprio...I can't reveal another possibility right now, as his production company's actually currently looking at the book(!)...but think 6'3", about 185-190 pounds.

As I wrote Myrna, I always pictured Karen Allen, about the age she was when she played Marian in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I wanted someone who's not a classic buxom beauty, but who still looks good with no makeup...

Glad you like Claude---think Lee Marvin in the 1970's B-)

I don't see Edward Norton, but Leo could be the man. Karen Allen, now there's a lady I could go for! With Claude, I think it maybe the name but Claude Akins back in his day fits the bill.

My key thing with Jade is that people always tend to underestimate him, which was always my thing about Norton. He looks like a pencilneck...be great to see him kick some ass. But Leo puts bums in seats...

Can't argue with that. Norton fits the bill, but Leo is bigger at the BO.

BTW - really loved Greta describing her story of how she ended up doing what she does. Reminded me a little of Honey Rider in Dr. No. - only actually more involving and better written...

Well there's always Katy Perry if she moves into acting. Or that one off The O.C. who was touted as Lois Lane for Superman Returns. I forget her name, fluctuating weight problems.

I'm REALLY starting to see a mix of these two gents as Claude...

this guy, Jon, was our cook at field school a few summers ago, and he continues to do lithic work with our lab

    Jon_Mark2_by_Pendragon_007.jpg

This is Jim, one of my profs. honestly, I was sitting in his class going "cannot unsee, cannot unsee!" the entire hour and fifteen minutes...

Funny - I imagined Claude to be black. Something in the way he talks, uses the title "Boss" a lot. Now I see him as a Sam Elliot/Lee Marvin type character, now that I know he's white that is. :))

Interesting I never clarified that ;% Fact of the matter is, unfortunately, it might have been difficult (if not impossible) for a black man to own and operate a bar like the Pelican on Miami Beach during this timeframe---sadly it was a matter of routine that African-American workers at the hotels, etc., had to be 'off the beach' and 'back in their own neighborhoods' by sundown :(

I'm going to deal with this in future books...one of the many things I just couldn't get to in this first story...

Bride of Barbel has now finished reading Blood & Ashes and enjoyed it throughly. I tried to comment on Amazon as suggested above, but was told I hadn't made a purchase recently. Duly I bought a CD (Alison Moyet, if it matters), waited the required 48 hours, and tried to comment again- to be told I hadn't made a purchase... ?:)

So glad The Bride enjoyed it! :) As for Amazon... X-( I've had a couple of others tell me the same thing...really annoying. Don't know what's going on there...

Well...not right away, at any rate. I'm not budgeted for it, sadly. My next move will try to arrange signings elsewhere in my home state, with an eye toward getting to St. Louis and Chicago (my home town is about halfway in-between). Then hopefully some more radio appearances---ultimately I'd like to phone-in to some nationally syndicated shows, like Jim Bohannon, etc. But if I can manage it with proportionate sales, I'd love to be able to hit the road! :007)

Pre-recorded a segment this morning for a local classic rock FM station...and they were gracious enough to post a link to my website on their homepage:

    http://www.wymg.com/pages/3344384.php

The segment should air this Friday, 3rd September, between 6 and 9 am, Central time (US)...but anytime thereafter, it should be available as a podcast...just go to the "Listen Live" tab at the top of the page, and choose the "Podcasts" option...

Well, on the previous podcast (the WYMG one), I talk about there being some sex in it ;% But decorum (and time constraints) kept me from hawking the more lewd aspects... :p

And I AM American! Gotta love the Midwestern Yank accent, right? American...but descended from German on both sides of the family...
