When the police stop Bond in Bolivia...

why didn't he just take off and lead them on a chase or something? I mean there are other chase scenes in the movie but like Bond knew that the police motorcycles on to him were related to Dominic Greene and his control over the government. Then we could also have a better transition into the DC-3 and the fighter planes that go to shoot it down.

Well, there is the necessary scene about what's in the boot...

I'm not completely happy with how it unfolds, but the resulting scene is well done.

Like you said, there are other chase scenes in the film. It didn't need another action scene, it needed a scene of substance. The scene shows yet another piece in the make-up of who we know as Bond. He dragged Mathis along with him, inveriably got him killed, and will obviously feel guilt over it. But it also shows who Bond really is. He cares, the death scene is an incredibly intimate moment between two friends, not unlike battlefield experiences many soldiers have. When death is inevitable, everyone just wants to be held and reassured, no matter how tough or emotionless they may seem in life. I think it was shot perfectly. But it also shows Bond's coldness and dedication to the mission once Mathis is dead. He dumps the organic Mathis in the trash bin, takes the money he will need and moves on. Camille comments on this, afterall. The action scene within the scene where Bond takes the two men down is well done, and quite enough in my opinion.

Bond has no reason too flee. He doesn't know of the body in the trunk and the chief of police just said the police was on their side.

I was under the impression that the reason Bond took the money and dump the body was to make it look like a street mugging gone wrong.

But as correctly stated, it was a marvelous scene, one of many that just stands out as some of the amazing cinematography that Mr Forster brought to us. Yes it has split many a Bond fan, but after watching the gross that was TMWTGG at the weekend surely one has to agree that it stands shoulders above in terms of story, direction and artistic merit.

I've tried to love QOS but sadly just can't and this scene is one of the reasons. Bond hides Mathis's body in a skip and takes his money to make it look like a robbery, Why ?
The police are working with Green and know Bond's connection with Mathis I guess thats why Mathis's Body was Put in Bond's Car. So making it look like a robbery To me at least Dosen't make sence. After all in the next scene when Bond hires the Plane he tells Camille the guy at the airport will make more money when he sells them out !.
Couldn't Bond mabey tie him up,knock him out or even Kill him after all he does have a licence to kill,But no.Bond now seems quite Happy to have his movements known.
If May makes an apperance in the next Film I can't wait for the scene where Bond wakes in the night crying and May has to hold the sobbing agent,Craigs Bond has to be the most touchy feely in touch with his female side Bond we've ever had, I for one want a return to a more stiff upper lip Bond.
I too watched TMWTGG at the weekend and would watch it in a heartbeat given the choice between it and QOS.After all in Golden Gun you do get to see the car chase and jump where as in QOS the camera man seems to be having a fit of some kind as it jumps all over the place.eg The villans car Bond shoots from the road.First cut we see car disapering from frame Bottom right the next we see it just leavin frame bottom Left.
I really do feel with QOS they Didn't care They just threw it together.Basicly The producers pull down their pants and pooed all over the past history of the Series. I hope for the Next One they put a little more effort into it and make a traditional Bond film, not another Jason Bourne Movie.

I did feel however that the whole spectacle of the corkscrew car jump in TMWTGG was really enhanced by the comical 'Benny Hill' whistle. I truly believe that Marc Forster really missed a trick there.

Would some of the amazing cinematography of Marc forster brought to the series include the opening scene where he manages to shoot the lake at an angle,Handy for water sking no boat needed. Funny how J Jordan could be strapped into a harness under a helicopter in freezing conditions for OHMSS yet still manage to produce well framed shoots. :))

To me, the reason Bond tries to make it look as if Matis is robbed is to get a slower reaction from his enemies. If Matis is "robbed" and the two policemen are dead, the next policemen who come to the scene will first assume it is a robbery gone wrong. Someoen robbed Mathis and then kille dthe policemen who tried to stop it. Not all police in La Paz are aware of what Greene and the chief of police are doing.
It wood make sense to kill or tie up the man they get the plane from. Perhaps killing him is a bit too callous even for Bond and tieing him up to die of thirst in the desert is even worse?

I don't think Bond takes the money because he is making it look like a robbery - rather, he needs the funds. He's now in a country he doesn't know with his liaison dead and the state after him. He needs all the help he can get, so he strips Mathis of his money. Hence his comment to Camille that Mathis would understand - the overriding priority is the mission, and once a contact is dead, he ceases to be of any use. Best to take what you can and move on.

It's another example of the cold, professional Bond putting his loyalties to one side in his quest to uncover Greene's plot.

    It's a misunderstanding.

Put yourself in Bond's shoes. He's enjoyed a nice swanky party with phat beats on a hot balmy evening. He's heading back with a fit babe Camille to the hotel where another babe, Ms Fields awaits. A night of threesome sexual frenzy beckons, and he naturally assumes that the police are about to supply the cocaine.

That's why he dumps Mathis in a skip; so would you if your promising evening had panned out such a way.

I think that this is more the case, rather than making it look like a robbery.

However I do like the sliver of humanity, of this ever growing 'colder' Bond - as he hold's Mathis until he dies. Surely to die alone, is anyones greates fear - so for Bond to be there - holding him like he does, well, it shows that Bond is not entirely a machine....

Bond should have a bit of humanity. And you're right - he's not a machine. Bourne is a machine, and tiresome after three films....

Exactly! I understand that fast editing makes the scene more exciting, but many of the action scenes didn't just have fast editing. For me the framing was too close to see what was going on, making it confusing and hard to follow.

I'm convinced that QOS was filmed with BlueRay HD in mind. It really is easy to follow, and the scenes are far more coherent in this format. I must admit, in the cinema I found it hard to follow the action scenes.

You're kidding, right ? Bond vs. the world's top hitman and TMWTGG is the best they could come up with....? J.W. Pepper on holiday, the whistle that goes with the car jump, Bond being rescued by schoolgirls, the list is sheerly endless.

QoS however shows a serious, revenge seeking Bond out on a rampage, muck like LTK. Surely it's a matter of taste, but I consider TMWTGG to be one of the series' weakest episodes.

I truly am amazed, for months now every fan of QOS have made the excuse thet Bond took the money to make it look like a mugging. Now they've come up with another theory,Gone are the days when you could follow a Bond film. Now if some one could clearly explain how Bond flips the speedboat I'd be a happy man.
as Youknowthe name writes the film shows a serious Bond out for revenge and on a rampage. yet most others who have seen it say the opposite, that it shows M and co thinking Bond is on a revenge kick when infact he's doing his duty and trying to get to the Bottom of the Green plot.
Sure I also Think Golden Gun is one of the weakest Bonds,Hate the Whistle and schoolgirls as well But I also Hate,
The lingering shot between the girls legs at the hotel, ( Tarantino has a thing for girls feet so I'm asuming Forster has a thing for underware).
The jerky camera work,( I agree the shots where too tight)
a Villans plot so weak the tellytubbies look more threating to the western world.
Mabey I'm On a nostalga Binge thinking back to my childhood but Given the choice of an afternoon's viewing I'd still chose TMWTGG. Others wouldn't But thats whats great about the world we're all Diffrent one mans meat and all that.

I think that is a bit of a sweeping statement ! You've spoken to EVERY fan of QoS have you ? I don't remember you canvassing my opinion.

I always thought Bond took the money because he needed it. 'jetsetwilly' gets this spot on, as usual !

So now all I can add is That I was Totally wrong QOS is with out question the Citizen Kane of Bond movies. The cinematography is Quite stunning and the editing a master piece. What can I say about the script why it didn't get an Oscar nomination I cant think.
    Please once again accept my most Contrite apologies I didn't have a great education and my grammer is usually betterer than this. So I'll call this my Swan song on the Bond Movies -{
If Bond needed some cash and then move on ,why didn't he take the cops wallets after all their in the pay of Greene I sure he pays well.Infact why not tap Camille for a few quid. :))

Have QOS on BlueRay and it's pretty clear on HD tv. The RIB powers up onto the stern of Bond's dory and gets stuck. Bond throws his anchor up onto the RIB where it "conveniently" holds fast. Bond accelerates, the anchor rope pulls tight, and inertia pulls the RIB's curved prow down into the water (Bond's stern is lower, therefore creating an angle). The moment the foward forces of the moving boat (irresistable force) initiate against the stationary water (imovable object), the decceleration flips the boat over.

Absolutely. Heaven forbid that TMWTGG has gratuitous close ups of girls' erogenous zones in tight underwear. For example, that close up of the Asian girl's backside rising into shot, accompanied by a leery guitar note, was entirely relevant to the plot.

I also apologise for editing the quote from your original post; I just tried to make it resemble the English language a little more closely. Sorry if it's not exactly accurate.
