New QoS Cardigan Alternative

Hey All,

Just picked this one up from Old Navy. It even has the right buttons on it already. Feels Great!!!

http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=51748&vid=1&pid=701890&scid=701890002

Pretty Nice Alternative, despite a couple of differences but the price difference more than makes up for it.

Wow, it looks great. Did you get it at the store or online? Are they cut small?

    Thanks and enjoy it.

I got it at the store, amazingly. I actually picked up a great peacoat there too. They seem to be cut pretty true to size. However, I wear a large in most cardigans and that's what I picked up.

    Hi everone.

I've been browsing this site a lot since Casino Royale came out. I have bought loads of bond related items since then (Sunspel polo, Tom Ford glasses, beige Levis, Black M&S shawl cardigan, brown Clarks desert boots etc), with this site being at the forefront of my purchasing ideas. As is the case again, I have seen something on here that I want. Normally I would just buy it, but the Cardigan that Beach_and_Broadchest was good enough to bring to my attention is only available in the US. Everything else I ahve bought was available to the UK, but Old Navy does not ship to yhe UK.

I have now joined the forum to ask a massive favour from someone in the US. Could someone buy me the above cardigan (or let me get it shipped to their address), and ship it to England. I will of course pay all costs up front so as not to inconvenience anyone.

The cardigan looks awesome and I would be really grateful if someone could do me this favour.

    Regards,

    Mark.

Can I second that thought? I was going to go down the Magnoli route, but this looks pretty tidy. Any help would be gratefully received.

As a Brit living in the US right now I will have a go at getting from Old Navy and posting back to blighty. PM me with your requirements if you wish.

I'm not back in the US until 9th Nov though. Egypt and London first. Any London to US traffic?? :))
Dont wait for your ship to come in. Swim out and meet the bloody thing.

Hi ExpatJB, I have been cheeky and PM'd you as well.
    Dryden: How did he die?
James Bond: Your contact? Not well.
Dryden: Made you feel it, did he? Well, you needn't worry. The second is...
    James Bond: Yes... considerably.

I am nervous about the fit. Went there at lunch and they don't carry it in the stores by me...which means online order for me. But even some aspects of the medium look too big.....hmmmmmmmm.
  • Beach_and_BroadchestBeach_and_Broadchest Posts: 16MI6 Agent
I will say this, Mantis, the fit was a little tough for me. As I am not in my peek Bond fitness, e.g. little lovehandle-ish, I could have fit in the medium but I did choose the large. The spare tire was too visible in the medium, otherwise it would have been good for me. I do wear a large in most shirts though.

What size is your suit jacket, if you don't mind me asking...I am tempted to get a medium in the sweater but a little concerned it wont be "fitted".
  • Beach_and_BroadchestBeach_and_Broadchest Posts: 16MI6 Agent
No Problem, Mantis. I wear a 46R, however, that is due to my broad shoulders.depending on the cut, I can do a 44R.

I got mine in the mail today. I haven't received my cardigan from Magnoli yet, so I can't compare them. I wear an XL and that was what I ordered. It fits very good, and is very comfortable. The only thing is it runs a bit long on the torso, and is slightly bunched at the bottom. But that's really a minor thing. For the money I think it's great, I'm glad I bought it.
If anyone does decide to order, and if you place an order over $100 use the code ONSAVE20 and you'll save 20% on online orders between November 19th-24th.

OK, just had mine arrive. GO OUT AND GET THIS SWEATER. Seriously, in many ways it is superior to the Zara one. Softer, drapes better, more comfortable..loving the pockets! WARNING: I am a 40-41 Regular suit jacket and take a size medium in polos and I bought a SMALL of this sweater. I am glad I did---the medium would have big too big because Old Navy sizes for obese Americans (sorry). So get the right size and don't go by their wonky size chart.

    GET THIS SWEATER quick!

I will help any guys from England to get one of these as well in case ExpatJB cannot find them. There are six Old Navy stores in my area. Maybe you should get a size smaller like Mantis says, but only in my opinion side by side this sweater still does not compare to Magnoli's.
I would ask you if you could remain emotionally detached. But I don't think that's your problem is it Bond?

    No

I agree with Paul, the Magnoli one is great I received mine in the mail today. I'm very happy with it.
However, on a budget the Old Navy is the way to go. I agree with Mantis, order a size smaller than you normally would. My XL is a bit too big, and too long.

I just got this sweater today as well (for $35 as the sales girl thought they were supposed to be on sale!!). It fits amazing. I normally wear a size 38R, so I went with a small and I think it fits great. I bought the one from Kohls last winter and it was ok, but nowhere near this close. I even like the addition of the elbow pads! Someone at Old Navy must've been paying attention to QOS, cos it's so close. So glad I finally found a worthy alternative!

    Thanks guys!:D

Gentlemen, I got the sweater last night and I absolutely love it! Well worth the price as it has a nice weight to it, and a great fit. I am a size 44R in suit and I have a wide frame so I went with the large. As DarthBond mentioned, the elbow pads are a nice touch and the buttons are great. Go out and get this sweater, you will not regret it. I cannot wait to rock the look... :007)

    Erm... am I missing something?

This cardy doesn't look a thing like the Ford QOS original???

Just an alternative in a similiar style for those that can't afford the Mag or the Fird OR for those that like the over-all style that just want a back up...and again for around $40 its a decent staple to have in your closet.

Thanks Mantis...it's great for those of us who are Bonds on budgets. And also thanks to you for those great articles as well.

All the thanks for the sweater needs to go to Beach and Broadchest....BTW, H&M in ths states also has a great shawl black cardigan...and the pockets etc are in the right placement...here is the rub, though: It is made of mostly acrylic with a little wool and feels like a brillo pad....pass!

Mantis, what is the sleeve length on the small (if the sizing chart is something I shouldn't go by)? I am pretty thin but do have long arms.
  • The Bond ExperienceThe Bond Experience Newtown, PAPosts: 5,490Quartermasters
Hmmm, I will measure them for you...but mot too long. Mine hit just beyond the wrist when my arm is straight out and perfectly when the arm just hangs to my side. I usually wear a 34inch shirt sleeve if that gives you an idea.

Thanks for checking Mantis. It'll save me a return shipping. It's hard being lanky. :(

Shame this isn't black, plus it's more expensive than Magnoli's version:

175 USD from Magnoli for a cardigan.. I mean, this is really expensive! There is no way it's worth that much!
