Magnoli Quantum Jacket - Review

DBSDBS Los Angeles, CAPosts: 1,015MI6 Agent
I recently purchased and received my Magnoli Quantum jacket which, as most of you know, is Tony's version of the Tom Ford Harrington jacket from the Perla de las Dunas sequence in "Quantum of Solace." I haven't seen many photos of it on here, nor have I heard much feedback from those who have purchased one, so I thought I'd weigh in on it and post some photos. In my opinion, it's a fantastic jacket and a spot on match for the screen-used version. Tony did a great job matching the color, as well - it's a close comparison when held next to a swatch of the screen-used fabric. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing or trying on a TF in person, but as a stand-alone jacket, this item delivers. At 1/8th of the price, it's a steal! It has two inner pockets - the left inner pocket has a zipper closure, while the right inner pocket is open. I was pleasantly surprised at how lightweight this jacket is too. The cotton twill material seems very durable, and the satin liner keeps the inside cool. I live in Los Angeles, so the last thing I need is a heavyweight wool jacket. For me, this is the perfect all-season jacket.

I spent quite a bit of time watching the sequence from the film and studying screen grabs and behind-the-scenes photos in order to assertain measurements that would give me a screen-accurate fit. It's definitely a slim-fit jacket, as the Harrington-style jacket is supposed to be. The best way for me to determine the measurements (as Tony also suggests) was to measure a similar-fitting jacket and adjust those measurements for this jacket. I was thrilled with the end results. I had only one issue with the fit - it's a tiny bit snug in the chest area (when I cross my arms) as I've been hitting the gym a bit more, anticipating the holidays right around the corner. I've decided to make some adjustments to my initial measurements and will be ordering another jacket, so I'm offering this one for sale here. Now for some photos -

If you're interested in purchasing this jacket, I'm asking $250 for it, which is $100 less than the retail price. The jacket is brand new as I just received it on Wednesday last week. I only tried it on inside and snapped these photos in it. I am a 40Reg for suit and jacket sizes. This jacket would be ideal for someone closer to a 38Reg. Here are the exact jacket measurements (with the jacket laying flat):

Chest - 22 inches
Front Length - 24 inches
Back Length - 23.5 inches
Sleeve Length - 23 inches
Bottom Width (length across the bottom of the jacket) - 19.5 inches
Sleeve Opening - 4.5 inches
Armhole - 10 inches
Full Shoulder (across the back) - 19.5 inches

Please PM me with any additional questions.

Kind regards,
Craig

This jacket has been sold. I will leave the photos up here for others who might be interested in picking up one of these jackets and need some additional information and detail photos.

    Kind regards,

    DBS,

Tony offers the jacket in several colors, but the midnight blue is the correct color, right?
Also, I don't have a jack that is quite as form fitting a the Quantum jacket. Did you
take measurements from a "regular" jacket and then you took off an inch here and there?
For example, you list the chest measurement as 22, was it originally 23, 24 and you subracted
a couple of inches to achieve the slim look of the jacket?

Just to pitch in. I got one of the Magnoli Quantum jackets last year. I cannot praise it highly enough. I was initially unsure about getting a tailored item without actually getting an in person measuring session.

As long as you get it right, you'll be over the moon with it.

I gave the measurements from my correct Y3 jacket - shaving 2 ins off the sleeves. Came back perfect.

If you're in the UK, go to Marks and Spencer. They offer a made to measure shirt service. Get measured and send those details to Indy.

Yes, the midnight blue is the correct color for the QoS jacket.

As for the measurements, I did what Duncan posted above, as well - I have a Y-3 type jacket that has a similar fit and construction to the Harrington jacket, and I took my measurements from that. Then I added or subtracted based upon how I wanted the Quantum jacket to fit. The jacket that I received in the above pics came out perfect except for the chest and shoulders. My second attempt added an extra 1-2 inches to the chest, shoulders, and upper sleeve measurements to allow for a little more room (and also if I want to wear a shirt or sweater that might be thicker than a Sunspel/TF polo.)

    Kind regards,
    Craig

Yes, the midnight blue is the correct color for the QoS jacket.

The jacket in the film looks Black to me. If it's not Black, then it looks a lot more of a darker shade of Blue than the Magnoli version.

How can we be sure the jacket in the film isn't Black?

The jacket used in the film was definitely blue, as can be seen here: http://www.allmoviephoto.com/photo/2008_quantum_of_solace_028_big.html

I don't believe the original Tom Ford harrington jacket is available in navy blue (or at a reasonable price!), but you can have an exact replica of it custom-made to fit your measurements here: http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/quantum-jacket-casual-p-257.html

I'm unsure if the original Y-3 jacket is still available, but you can order your own made-to-measure replica here: http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/solace-jacket-casual-p-280.html

I think $350 is a lot of money for a jacket like that. I'm sure it looks great, but that's way overpriced.

I would like to know what's the deal with the Y-3. I only recall the TF harrington. Was there another jacket? The Y-3 is just a look alike?

The Y-3 is the black jacket Bond takes after he kills Slate. Pic in this thread: http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/33813/y3-jacket/

The black Y-3 jacket is picked up by Bond from Slate's hotel room after he turns out to be a "dead end". He takes it from Slate's closet and wears it until the Tosca scene in Bregenz, where he ditches it for the Tom Ford tuxedo.

The navy blue Tom Ford harrington jacket is worn by Bond when he meets Felix in the bar, and for the Perla de las Dunas hotel.
