My James Bond MicroMachines

These MicroMachines by Galoob were available at Suncoast video. If memory serves, they came out around the time of Goldeneye and were originally available for $19.99. I picked up the second set for $12.99 on sale. To my knowledge it was the first time that the Moonraker Glastron boat and the Moonraker Hispano Suiza had been released as a Bond tie in in any scale. When my little guy saw them this evening he wanted to open one of them. A cool little set.

I remember those, I had them back when they came out and have a few scattered around the basement. I love the DB5, it actually has a the bulletproof panel that lifts up from the trunk. And then the Moonraker speedboat with the glider that comes out the back, really neat. Micro Machines were so cool back then.

It's a nice set - I have one. Didn't they also put together some smaller sets ? In packs of four or five ?

Yes they did - by then they also had lost the license - no 007 or Bond packaging.

Really ? I could have sworn these also came in Bond packaging. Maybe it was just in packaging that was similar then ?

You know what, there may be a smaller set in Bond packaging - similar design as DG's set - black color, but I was thinking of another smaller set - non-licensed generic pinkish packaging.

Dimitri - Yes they were a cool set. I think the Pussy Galore Goldfinger plane and the TSWLM torpedo motorcycle had not been seen before either. A very cool set, which is why I picked a couple up at the time. They seem to go for 2 to 3 times what they originally cost. I believe there was an Indiana Jones set, a Star Trek set and perhaps a Star Wars set as well. The movie/T.V. sets seem to be the more valuable for obvious reasons.

texas007 - I think Suncoast Video is now fye. I think I picked them up somewhere on the East Coast while I was still sailing in the Merchant Marine. I think that voyage also took me through the Panama Canal to Hawaii, Guam and Saipan. No problem sharing, I have so much Bond stuff that showing it here also helps me to catalog what I have.

Sir Miles - I think you're right. I think the set was also available as three separate issues, the Goldfinger set, the Moonraker set, and the TSWLM set.

As I said above, I just picked them up because I thought they were cool and some of the vehicles had not been seen before. My initial intention was to open one, and keep the other for my collection, but I never did.

In 1997 there was also an unlicenced 5-car Micro Machines set #18 called "Super Spies" which contained the Aston Martin DB5 and Lotus Esprit, a light blue BMW Z3, a red Sunbeam convertible, and a green pre-war Bentley.

At the time I thought that all these cars were meant to be James Bond cars, the Bentley from FRWL and the Sunbeam Alpine from Dr. No, although I wondered why the car was red.

Later I noticed that a red Sunbeam Tiger (the same car as the Alpine but with a Mustang 260 V-8) was featured in "Get Smart" - and the old Bentley is probably Steed's car from "The Avengers" rather than Bond's. However, the blue Z3 is clearly from GoldenEye and was not available elsewhere.

I remember that Wal Mart also carried these around the time either Goldeneye or Tommorow Never Dies was in the cinemas.
I almost picked one up, and later I wished that had because on the secondary market they going for $35.00 and up.

Still I made up for it with the Johnny Lighting Bond cars that were out during 1999-2002.

I vaguely remember the "Super Spies" set. I wish I had bought one.

I have a small collection of the Johnny Lightening Bond cars too, but I don't think I got the full set.

    Hi All

Galob brought out 4 sets of JB Micro Machine Sets , Goldfinger, Moonraker,TSWLM and a Boxed set that comprised all 3 sets and included an additional Bond figure . When they lost the licence they came out with ( as already stated ) a super spy's set . I was lucky enough to pick all these up when in Norway , all sets shown on my website. Have also seen most of these out here in Malaysia & Singapore , cannot off hand remember where but will do some searching.JBA
