It was without a shadow of doubt TURNBULL & ASSERS TIE!!!! It was the first Bond tie I bought from them and the first original piece of Bond costume I bought also. Since then I have bought several as it was my favourite tie. It was not Brioni and certainly NOT Aquascutum. The red version in the picture above is the exact pattern.
toutbrun, If the tie does turn out to be aquascutum, then try the site; aquascutumgifts.com, they have a service that will makes ties to order. Worth a shot.
But if they do have a made-to-order-we-can-reproduce-ties service, that's interesting.
If you can't trust a Swiss banker, what's the world come to?
The minimum order is 8 and we can buy either 8, 12, 16 and so on (multiples of 4).
They need a 50% non-refundable deposit.
They will be delivered to one single address by UPS.
Since I am in Canada, for the delivery and payment, I suggest that I give the address of one respected UK member and we can Paypal him the money, because we will save on taxes and duties and fees and shipping. Maybe he could even pick them up, maybe.
Once we made the payment I will receive and scan a few swatches that they will send me to select the exact shade we want.
However, I will email again to make sure they have THE one we want, I don't want to lose half my money on the wrong tie.
So we have to pick one trusted UK member, send him the money plus the fees of Paypal. And I want to make sure who will want the tie.
At the moment we are 8. I think that's gonna be it, but if 4 people want to add up, that's fine.

If you can't trust a Swiss banker, what's the world come to?
Bruno,
We have corresponded some time ago on this subject and I have visited T&A on many occassions, the last of which wasn't hopeless , indeed very useful. Anyway, I would be quite prepared to assist those who want a tie as I do too! I have PayPal and that would be a good way to transfer funds. Let us keep the shipping costs down as I am in London frequently I would collect them. However, before we get ahead of ourselves we need to establish exactly what they will be making for us! Perhaps, you could arrange a meeting? PM me the details if you like and I will go visit... either Jermyn Street or where they are actually made. They do have pictures up in the store, but I do not recall this exact JB tie. So, let me know....
PS: I am in London Thursday on another little project....
I sent Liam an email saying that I would like for him to confirm he has the colors we want. Depending on his reponse, you could, yes, go help them in-store to find it
I think that it's great you'd like to help us pick-up and ship the ties.
If someone in the group has an objection to that, he can PM me, I will put his objection here without saying its author.
Otherwise.. wow, thanks.
Will get back with more details.
If you can't trust a Swiss banker, what's the world come to?
Bruno,
Have you had any luck with a swatch?
Reading back through the thread does ASP9mm still have his tie? And therefore possibility of some images?
Alternatively find out where the swatches are and I'll go look..!
I will take an auction image with me.
Haven't got back to me yet. I think Liam will check with production people, but if you can go in-store with an image, wow. Just do it.
Go find the freakin swatch yourself, I think it's gonna be better. But at least T&A offers to send you swatches once you paid the deposit, while Tom Ford doesn't send swatches at all.
If you can't trust a Swiss banker, what's the world come to?
asd007, I'm already on the case....
It was my intention to amass as much information now as possible.
However, I was conscious of the number of 'projects' (T&A ties, Tom Ford ties, Golden Gun etc) that already exist and therefore let us concentrate our efforts on this one first. It would be nice to have concluded one project, but they will all take time. I have visited T&A on a number of occassions and it isn't easy - it's simply not their core business. Once we have the information we can (I hope!) always re-visit a project in the future :007)
News folks....
I am being sent a swatch of the tie material. It should be with me tomorrow....
However, it is unclear if the swatch has been matched to the image that was forwarded to T&A or it is the actual tie material and I will not be able to confirm until Monday. I sincerely hope it is the latter....!
Dear All,
Having received the samples from T&A I was surprised as there were two...:s
Upon calling them to discuss I have been told, again, that T&A did NOT make the tie.
I am speaking with a Bond fanatic at T&A and therefore I have no reason to doubt. However, I am awaiting confirmation of a meeting with production, next week, whereby I hope to see the actual T&A records, which they have, of EVERY Bond tie they have made. So, there is some hope for us all....
I will keep you all posted of progress.... :007)
PS: The 'warp' is effectively the 'backing' material around which the tie is woven. The white produced a brighter, glossier, more 'alive' colourful tie.

As for their records, good luck with that. You'll know what I mean when you see them.
In all seriousness, I was a big collector of TND stuff in the day and had original production supplied versions of both ties plus a couple of each that I got from T&A in 97 (they have a picture of Pierce wearing the other tie in their main shop). It is without a single shadow of a doubt their tie and pattern. The small fact that they sent the exact swatch should prove that too.
There was a segment on GMTV with Lorraine Kelly and Colin Woodhead and they discussed the T&A ties and shirts used in the film, plus Brioni and Church shoes. I may still have it on VHS somewhere.
maybe the blue squares in the TND Hamburg tie were possibly somewhat darker blue colour?
Well, to be honest I don't know as I don't have an original tie to compare either sample with.... ?:)
Asp, you 'had' - so don't now? That's a shame. However, I would be interested if you did find that video!
It is difficult, as many have found out, when you are trying to deal with a company that, it would appear, doesn't have the continuity of staff over the requisite years to ensure we can rely on their information. I just hope the records are detailed enough
I have seen the image they have in Jermyn Street - it is that image that started a quest for me some time ago, but that was an easier tie to solve. This one seems a little harder....
The samples I have were produced from the image toutbrun forwarded, not form records. The samples have a blue square made from only 8 threads. I would be interested to know if that is the same as Magnoli. However, I noted a previous comment about easy pulling of threads but this TPI is nowhere near that of Tom Ford and, in my humble opinion, is far more robust and not that easy to pull threads - but that's not to say it's 'original' and that's what I seek - not a replica. I appreciate the feedback, it all helps. And on Monday I will be one sure step closer.....
Will you be getting samples of their other (TWINE) Bond ties? I'd appreciate if you could get a sample of the Bilbao tie as I'm not still convinced of that tie being black...
Satanama,
You're not alone in your question and yes I will be trying to obtain samples of all ties.
And, if I do, be sure I will post for everyone within an existing or create a new thread.
Watch this space.... but don't hold your breath....!

This is typical of T&A.
Not your fault, it's T&As for being daft enough not to recognise their own work and being too lazy to not look at records.
I don't even know how they can doubt it. I sent the same in another color.
And my name is not Mr. Brown btw

Cheers for that bro. It's quite frustrating knowing you are right and being unable to prove it.
