Tried a Negroni the other night at J.P. Wine Bar after finishing my Old Fashioned. I didn't not like it but it defiantly a drink that would have to grow on you.

Both, Negroni and Americano are definitely in the "acquired taste" class of drinks. {[]

Do you mind if I ask where were you having your drinks; because N and A are quite distinctly "summer drinks", warmer it is outside, the more refreshing they are. Helsinki for example has very limited season for drinks like Mojito, Negroni, Americano or Mint Julep :# . Now that it is -10c outside, windy and snowing, I'd rather have a Hot Toddy or Coffee and Bourbon, than a Negroni.

I have them a locally owned wine bar (J.P. Wine bar) http://www.jpwinebar.com in what is known as the crossroads art district of Kansas City, MO. It's been varying in weather lately here sometimes in the 40s and sometimes in the 20s. Their cocktail menu always features their own Negroni called a Negreeni with green chartreuse instead of Campari. I guess they don't really keep a summer and winter cocktail menu though I'm sure their wine list does change for seasons.

I did discover they make a drink called a Spanish Coffee with Kahlua and triple sec that they light with a lighter before pouring the coffee. It was quite a show to see and my girlfriend is going to try this Friday for my birthday.

A cosmopolitan. It's a ladies drink, I know, but get over it - it was good.

For my birthday get together with friends at the bar, I had a old fashioned. Then I tried ordering an Americano cocktail, James Bond style, and I received an Americano coffee. :)) I should of expected that they do serve amazing coffee at J.P. So I told them what I meant to order and the bartender didn't know how to make it; I must bring a recipe next time. So I ordered a Vesper and my good friend put it on his tab. What a night! It was by far the best Vesper I've had. Too bad our usual bar tender was on vacation.

I drank far too much...even for me! I went to my fav bar up town for my friends 21st. Not a good idea to drink that much on a empty stomach! But it was a good evening and I scored.

currently sipping on a rum and coke after a very loooong day volunteering in the archaeology lab. it's ridiculous how much we have to do...and all of last year's work too, 'cause the last lab guy was stupid and did nothing that he was supposed to.

I've had that happen to me once also: it wasn't my birthday though, but my wifes. Anyways we were having aperitifs with friends at the terrace of the Kämp hotels bar ( http://www.hotelkamp.com/kamp_cafe ) , before dinner and I ordered an Americano -> got coffee. I was quite surprised at first, it is a quality hotel, but got things sorted out pretty quicly. This time though it was more of misunderstanding by the waiter, than problem with the bartender. The staff were very apologetic and wouldn't charge for the sludge even though I did drink it while I was waiting for the real Americano :v .

Visited the new speak-easy style bar in Kansas City, Manifesto, for the first time last night. http://www.yelp.com/biz/manifesto-kansas-city

I was blown away. I heard it was featured in this months US edition of Esquire, and it was very evident of that. You walk in the back door entrance which you have to buzz in, and the doorman wearing a vest and bow-tie leads you downstairs to a dimly lit basement with a few booths and a long bar. All the barmen are wearing the vests and bow ties with rolled up sleeves like that bar keeps of old. If you don't make reservations, its the bar for you, which was great, I ordered an old fashioned, my usual drink and it came with a 2 inch cube of ice, no cherry mashed, no orange pummeled. but pure brilliance in flavor. It was garnished with a orange slice wrapped around a pick with a cherry soaked in whiskey and maraschino liqueur. Keep in mind each drink cost $11, so this wasn't cheap but for me you got your bang for the buck in every sip.

My second drink, I challenged them to make me an Americano, something the last bar I visited hadn't even heard of. The bar tender made it and even flamed some orange oil over it, it was quite superior in taste to the Negroni I've had before, I think the addition of the tonic really helps ease the taste of the Campari. Overall I was super impressed with this bar and because it's so off the beaten path it was never crowded or too loud. The guys really try to help you find something you will like. My girlfriend got a drink off their specials, a vodka and milk drink made with the locally made root beer milk from Shatto.www.shattomilk.com I know that sounds gross but it's like the best root beer float you've ever had.

Overall I had a very James Bond kind of night, drinking cocktails, and I encourage you all to go seek out some interesting local bars like Manifesto.
