Reading threads about the worst movies and all this, I thought, who actually like DAD besides me... I think it was a good film, maybe a bit over the top but still good.

I'm pretty much in your camp. The movie is FAR from great, but I also think it's nowhere near as awful as many fans charge.

I like to watch it for the first half or so. It's not my least favorite but because it's the last of the Brosnan films I like to re-watch it every once in awhile for nostalgia's sake.

I like it. I can look past the CGI and the "over the top" scenes. How can you not love that sword fight? Oh, and Miranda Frost :x

It's got a lot of good moments, particularly in the first half, and I agree it doesn't deserve the drubbing it frequently gets... except for the Madonna song, which isn't criticised enough!

While DAD is certainly one of my least favourite Bond films, I wouldn't say that I hate it, in fact last time I watched it I remember enjoying it as a bit of escapist fun. There are bits I enjoy (the Cuban section, the opening scenes in North Korea) and bits I dislike (the invisible car, the ice-wave parasurfing scene) but overall it is still enjoyable enough.

I don't hate it - I'm not over keen on it though, which is a real shame as the first half is very good.
What spoils the film for me ? The character Jinx, the horrible CGI para-surfing and that TERRIBLE fencing scene - I'm SHOCKED that people actually like that scene, it's dreadful and so hammy X-(

Each to their own....it's awful though....NOBODY fences like that....I know it's a film and therefore some license is needed....but still...urrgh X-(

I liked the spirit of one-upsmanship...from foils to broadswords...Also, I believe it might have been the last film for the master swordsman (name escapes me ;% ) who also choreographed Errol Flynn vs Basil Rathbone in The Adventures of Robin Hood...I always thought it seemed like something that could have been in one of Fleming's books. The last shot of Brozzer, with the bloody nose :007)

I'm with the consensus on this thread as far as the film as a whole is concerned. The first half features some of Brozzer's best work in the role. In the second half, everything gets out of control---which is too bad.

If it is...then I'm shocked even more...because THAT'S EXACTLY the type of swordfight I would have loved....I don't think the DAD swordfight comes anywhere near to capturing that type of encounter.

Unfortunately there was also "Mr. Kill" and "Your Mama"

I really like DAD, especially the first part, the cars on the ice and Bond swimming below the ice. Also Bond is finally driving a new Aston Martin for the first time in many years.. It's not perfect but no film is.

Yep, I agree, especially the hotel scene, brilliant -{ - I also liked the fencing scene - but I'm not a fencer, so have no clue as to all of the 'wrongness of it'

However, I really disliked the second half - the awful CGI'd paragliding scene is, I think, THE WORST of all - and it just went seriously downhill from there.

....but it just makes CR all the more better :007)

sorry to veer to an overpopulated extreme but DAD is a terrible film from start to finish. there are obvious problems like the ludicrous invisible car sneaking up on people and the rather unrealistic wind surfing, but there's also a henchman called mr kill, human cloning, bond oddly not looking one bit cold swimming under ice water, John Cleese positively buthering the role of Q, horrendous acting all round, and worst of all Ikarus.
Nonetheless, it is possible to enjoy any bond film no matter how bad.

It is a deeply flawed film, especially when we get to the second half. Truth is, I really enjoy it, there has yet to be a Bond film which I haven't, but the crude CGI destroys the film, and considering that with the first half of the film there is an attempt to do something a little different, the fact that it gives way to huge satellites with giant lasers, invisible cars and an over the top atmosphere is a little dissapointing. Watching Bond getting tortured and then going rogue was a great way to start the film off, sadly it wasn't to last.

Like many before me have said, the first half was very good, the second half was weak. But I would watch DAD a thousand times before I would sit through A View To A Kill again!

It has its moments - Bond in the Korean dungeon, the sword fight, the abandoned tube station - but these are swamped by the stinkiness of the film as a whole, and in particular the ghastly madonna scene which remains the single worst moment in any Bond film ever (as well as the worst and least sexy actress).
DUD is, in my not-so-humble opinion, the worst - by a mile - of all the Bond films (including Never Say Never). Such a shame that Brosnan bowed out with such a pile of snot just when he seemed to be hitting his stride.
