Now that they want to film the next Bond in 3D, I suppose that they will re-release all the movies eventually in 3D...3D Blu-ray....?????? More equipment upgrades anyone....??????

I just hope no one got a new HD TV or BluRay player for Christmas. The 3-D TV's and BluRay
players are supposed to hit stores this summer.

Here's a link to that article about Bond in 3D....still early days yet
They will - BUT they will cost a small fortune to start with - upwards of GBP4000 ! Start saving now )
And I'm assuming (always dangerous) that with 3 different types of encoding 3D that we could have another 'format war' ! X-(
Sky TV are already filming football in 3D (a lucky few are testing it for them) - so there obviously must be a market for it - I have to say that I'm not convinced though, although I'd like to see it before I fully condem it
The good news is there won't be a format war. All the electronics manufacturers got together and agreed on one encoding standard. Finally they did something smart. The other good news is if you have a Playstation 3, it will be upgradeable to 3D Blu-Ray by firmware upgrade. That way you'd only have to buy a new TV.
that Avatar was not that great, 3D films are just a novelty
at the moment, lets not go mad and ruin Bond with 3D
however if there was ever Going to be a 3D Bond film it would
have been better if it was Moonraker or Die Another Day they
almost lend themselves to it
but too late now

The problem with Avatar and other 3D films is that directors/producers emphasise the technology above all else. (Admittedly with Avatar, its not all about the 3D gimmick, although there are other negatives). As a consequence, storyline, drama, etc that should complement action scences can get left out. When that happens, it becomes a gimmick film.
If this is not another fad, then over time directors should mature with the use of the medium. My guess is that with falling cinema audiences globally and rise of home theatre, Hollywood, tech firms etc are looking desperately for ways to maintain revenes and profit margins - and 3D is one way to do that - we poor consumers who already have widescreen, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 surround sound, DVD, HD DVD, Blue ray - where's the next growth market to come from? Hence 3D.
BTW - Thinking back over the Bond films, there would be some amazing scenes that scream out for 3D. Think PTS Goldeneye with bungee jump, Honey coming out of the water in DN, PTS GF helicopter view at Miami hotel, TND helicopter bike chase, etc. For one I would really like CR in 3D.
However, having said that, I hate it! I saw several 3D shorts over 10 years ago while on Holiday in Australia, at the Sydney IMAX Although wonderful in themselves, I had low tolerence for the heavy weight that was building on my head and around my eyes. I saw AVATAR the old fashioned way and absolutely loved it. - I know that I would be in the same boat as Minijeff. I could not sit with one of those bike helmets on my head for 2.75 hours!! Attempting to do so would put me off the film no matter how entertaining and well made, and it is an entertaining and well made film.
Conventional 3D card glasses would be fine - but you don't know before you park your plates in your seat which option it will be.
Bond in 3D? - As it is, I will be asking forum members here if there are any QOS style, stroke inducing, badly editted action sequences in 23 after it is released. - If there are, I won't be seeing it on the cinema screen, 3D or no 3D! Something is very wrong when a film forces you to book an early appointment with the Optician!
There is a sunglass company that I read about that intends making sunglasses that double as 3D glasses. I suppose the industry needs to think about standardising the hardware/software glasses formats.
Heck even Brosser in DAD wore that 3D hyperreality "gaming" glasses
