DC inherited the P99 from the Brosnan era. When it came to QOS, they reportedly reviewed the choice for the "Bond Gun", and it was DC's choice to go back with the PPK - since that was Fleming's choice for Bond.

I would hope that they just stick with the PPK and the excellent gun handling as shown in the last two films.

BTW: DC did use the PPK in the PTS of Casino Royale, it's hard to see in the final cut, but in the "deleted scenes" section of the DVD the PPK is more visable in the uncut version of the PTS.

I think the easy to conceal PPK makes sense to continue as Bond's everyday personal protection weapon. What I like is how they have Bond using the appropriate firepower depending on the mission (the Browning High Power in the chase scene in CR is a good example). It's a subtle bit of realism that IMO adds to the films.

Just a thought: perhaps the P99 is MI6's standard issue sidearm for field operatives and the PPK is 007's personal "weapon of choice"...?

Gotta be the P99 and perhaps the ppk as a back up weapon quite nice way to get them both in!

It would appear that the Sig226 is the standard MI6 sidearm, since in both the DC films that handgun has been used by every other agent we've seen EXCEPT Bond who favors the Walther line.

I agree with having Bond use both the PPK and P99. Granted Walther has some good compact pistols currently being offered I don't see Bond changing his firearms choices at the moment.

Daniel Craig is the best gun handler of all the Bonds by far. Even to those of us who know guns, he was very convincing in QOS with the PPK. As to the SIG P226,which as stated above has been established in the films as standard issue for SIS( and in reality is UKSF issue),keep it in the Aston for "serious social work".

Not to nitpick or anything but I wanted to point out that Carter the agent who was helping Bond in Madagascar was using a Sig P228 not a 226. Mitchell and one of the agents Bond knocks out in the hotel lift in QOS had 226's.

There is nothing like the PPK. I wish they would just keep it in and leave the others out. Yes the P99 is "cool" but it isn't Bond's weapon. The PPK is better known for being 007 weapon than just about anything else related to the damn thing.

Leave the PPK in Bond's hands.

PPK. He will likely use other weapons as well, but this is the signature sidearm for James Bond in films.

I don't mind the PPK being the main gun, although it looked a bit too small in Bond's hands in QoS. It definitely is the iconic, Fleming-Bond gun.

However, I do like the idea of Bond picking up different guns as he goes along. I liked his use of the SIG226 in QoS.

I agree if Bond has anything else other than the PPK it needs to be a SIG, there is just something evil about a SIG. Damn those are nice guns.

SIG is more for CIA agents or security personel. Walther is the perfect Bond issue. I like PPk and P99, both are quite elegant and exotic pistols, the PPK is classic and a Bond icon, and the P99 is modern and nice looking.

I would like Bond to use again a first generation P99, like on Bronsnan´s films and CR, it fits the modern Bond. But I don´t like at all the new 3rd gen model because it lost the style required for Bond. Perhaps the compact model would be and interesting choice, but i doesn´t fully convice me. Otherwise, the PPK to keep the tradition is also cool.

At the risk of repeating, I like the P99 first generation, and even own one. But the P99 is a full sized pistol, and as seen in CR'06 hard to conceal. It's nice, but not really oo7. As with most things the "improvements" that make the second generation weren't. The pistol lost some of the detailing that made it look classier than the Glock, and is now just another "plastic" pistol like the Springfield XD and the S&W M&P series.

Even today the PPK fits the "gentleman agent", that oo7 was first advertised to be. As long as they stick to the original Walther made version....

The PPK is perfect for James Bond. But as James Bond becomes more James Bourne, he needs more firepower than the tiny PPK could ever give. Picking up weapons for the task seems more realistic and more interesting. Personally, I'd like Bond to keep the PPK (an impossible weapon to match in terms of reliability, thickness for concealment, compatability with a sound moderator, ease of maintanence, close-range accuracy and pointability) and concentrate on a little more subtle clandestine work. Moreover, Bond using his fighting skills and his cunning mind does more for me than using a gun every time.

I personly like the ppk and seriosly think it should return, after all it is the truely original bond gun.

what I mean by return is being used again after the last bond film in which it was used.

James Bond is a secret agent (and sometimes assassin) not a commando. He typically doesn't need to carry a hand cannon with a 16 shot magazine. Like any other trade, the right tool for the right job. Need to take down Mr. White from distance w/o killing him....use an automatic rifle w/ scope and silencer. Going after a terrorist bomber in a hostile 3rd world country, take a Browning High Power. Going undercover as a rich playboy gambler at a posh resort, a Walther PPK will do (looks much better with a tux anyway).

I agree. I also think the idea of a standard issue gun for a inteligence service is ludicrous. Perhaps for bodyguard assignments, raids and suchlike. But for what the CIA calls non-official cover jobs they should use whatever comes handy. "Ah, the Sig Sauer 226. The standard handgun in the MI6. You must be in the Secret Inteligence Service!" is stupid in more than one way.

Wouldn't 9mm rounds be easier to get than the PPK's 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP)? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Some concealable 9mm pistols to consider:

    CZ 2075 RAMI
    Kahr MK9 or PM9
SIG Sauer P229 (My uncle is a bodyguard and carries this)

Craig makes the PPK work. I was a fan of the P99 but now it somehow looks too big and plump to me...

The right tool for the right job B-) The PPK is an excellent concealed carry; works for me!

Well yes, and no; wellcome to the wonderfull world of government contracts, most likely SIS will use what ever there is in the military/law enforcement inventory, there fore it is more likely that Bond and other personnell would carry SIG 226/228 or even Walther PPK than it would be for them to carry that god awfull P99 (yes I've shot the damn thing and I am not a fan)

And another thing; the SIG line of handguns is quite popular in both military and law enforcement circles (as well as civilian). It would a be just as stupid to assume that some one is a member of the intelligence services on the basis of SIG226 as it is to assume that some one is James Bond on the basis of the Walther PPK: Remember YOLT "Walther PPK, only one person in the world carries it!" :)) :)) :)) :)) :)) :))

There is only one manufacturer who makes even more anonymous line of handguns, and I am quite sure that the Metropolitan Police would be more than happy to provide MI6 with some Austrian plastic with out the fear that the world would go "OH MY GOD The Met. is running amok around the world killing people!!!" ;)

If Bond does start using the P99 compact for concealed carry, I am okay with it. Both the P99 compact and the PPS are getting a sold reputation from the firearms industry as excellent weapons for concealed carry and if I remember right are much lighter than most of what Walther's competitors offer in this area.
  • mediapigmediapig Los AngelesPosts: 87MI6 Agent
While the PPK is classic, I wouldn't mind if he switched to the P99 compact... this is a new, rebooted Bond after all, and a newer model gun makes more sense to me. But I think the full size P99 as used by Brosnan is just too damn big to be believable as a secret agent's gun... especially given the tight tailoring of Craig's Tom Ford suits! I also don't mind Bond picking up and using other guns as appropriate, but I think his primary carry gun should always be a Walther.
