QoS Scarf Alternative

Hi:
I bought last week this scarf in a shop center in Spain called "El Corte Inglés". It is grey and black and is a cheked prince of walles fabric.

A detail of the fabric:

The pictures are taked by my Nokia. Apologize for the quality.
The scarf was made by Johnstons. This is the web page, but it is unavailable:

It's funny I own several scarfs and my girlfriend gets on me for never wearing them, I guess I just forget. But I would grab that one every day. Looks very warm and would go with anything. Thanks for sharing Seamast.

For anyone who can get the pattern of the original, Magnoli has told me he's more than willing to make a run of these...

Nice! Look forward to it... just hope it's not a $600 TF scarf. =D

TF Milan said the movie scarf was available. It was a grey/black check in silk/cashmere I think. Now sold out there. Price was about 360 Euros.

Are you sure? The person I talked to told me it wasn't. But maybe he's wrong. I love the scarf.

    295 X 5 ties + 350 scarf + 800 Golden Gun = 2600 USD

And you don't have the TF Kazan coat yet. This is just accessories. I mean, this is crazy.

Shoot, I also forgot the cardigan.

I really hate to say this, because so many of my friends here are the ones avidly buying up TF items, but I think TF has really made some of us lose sense of how much items should reasonably cost. I understand expensive luxury items (Brioni, T&A), but TF is blatantly, in his own words pitching his products to people who have way more money than they know what to do with.

I don't know, I guess everyone is just well above my pay grade. :007)

Don't worry. Only the ones with pictures of Aston Martin are above your paycheck. The other ones only manage badly their money.

I don't want to turn this thread in a philosophical one, but this is, of course, a good question. 300 USD for each tie, coats, cardigans, this is very expensive. T&A 180 USD ties are already expensive, this is almost double. And they are made by Zegna, who has NO TIE WHATSOEVER at this price.

I am the first to say that you need the original product, but I don't know. This is so much money. And if you buy 1200 USD of ties, you won't wear them too much because you don't want to make pulls or something. So you will keep them for special occasions. So there will be 1200 USD worth of ties in your closet.

So in two years you'll want to sell them. And if you do wear them, they will lose value and beauty. And if you do keep them 10 years, well you will have lost 1200 USD because you'dd have 2400 by now with very low interest. And I don't know if people will still be interested by the ties of the QoS movie.

But again, what are you gonna do? This is our only chance to get them. I don't know that to do, how many to buy. One? Two? The whole? That would be a LOT of money. And then there is the Golden Gun which might increase in value. And there's the scarf.

I don't mean to derail this thread but this is my opinion. It's easy for this to quickly unravel to the point of obsession where you have to own every Tom Ford item. I think what everyone has to remember is that this is all about living within your means and what is important to you. I own one Tom Ford item - the champagne tie. That's it. That's my splurge and it will only come out of my closet for weddings, etc... That's my financial limit of owning a piece from the movies and feeling like Bond for a night when I bring it out. I am actually enjoying finding alternatives that look the part, that is in my budget, and are practical for wearing on a daily basis. I'd like to go in on an Omega Seamaster next but that will take a minute or two to justify that kind of spending. It would be more of an "investment" minded purchase. In the mean time, my Alpha PO will do as a daily Bond beater watch.

Great scarf alternatives. I too am looking forward to seeing a screen accurate one.

    1. are any of these the scarf? http://www.tiedeals.com/scarf/TomFord_Scarves.htm
    2. I agree about the cost of Tom Ford items. It is killing me that I cant afford all 5 ties, let alone the coat, suits, etc., but I guess you have to pick and choose, win the lottery, or beat Le Chiffre at Casino Royale.

Here are 2 alternatives (I don't know which one would be better). Both from Prada. Not too expensive in CAD because of the good exchange rate.

Well said, Drum007...I don't want to get 'soap boxy' here but expensive is in the eye of the beholder. I agree no one should be living beyond their means especially for fabric (for goodness sake) but I am sure that those that have purchased TF goods have not forced their children to live in urine stained refigerator boxes. Look, this is a financial, social, and a personal choice. No one has any guns to anyone's head on both sides of the coin. It is ludicrous to make statements about people base on such things.

I've never seen it here. And I have no confirmation from the store that you can still buy it.

There are several people who purchased the TF scarf...but I think they were growing a little tired of the TF buyer bashings.

If you can afford it...go for it..nothing better than the real thing.
The great thing about this forum is that people are happy for you if you get the original item and happy for you if you get the next best thing.

    toutbrun,

it's not Mantis' place to tell you who purchased the scarf. If people wish to keep it private we should respect that.

I know I bought one, and know of three others that did as well...have not had a chance to post pix yet.

Well I know that a lot of people have been trying to find one and were coming with alternatives, I think that it would be nice for everyone to have at least one picture of the real thing to know what to look for, and maybe the style number so we know what to order if you want a TF one.

If you don't want to give me names, that's one thing, but on the other hand it's not the biggest secret ever. It's just a scarf.

It's not a secret and no one is trying to withhold what it looks like...just mentioning that no one is beating a path to the camera after some of the comments on the board around these type of expenditures. Happy to take some pics when I get a moment.
