My Goldfinger Homers (Large and Small)

Minigeff's fantastic spring loaded mini homer inspired me to post pictures of my homer collection. I have three large ones and three small ones. Of the large ones, my favorite is the one in the center. It's all metal, magnetized and spring loaded. The other two homers are resin, slightly larger, and spring loaded and very nice, but when you pick them up they feel light and just don't stack up to that fantastic metal one. Just awsome! The small homers are all the same and though they open, they are not spring loaded. My favorite mini homer is the one in the opening shoe heel. Very cool!

Well they'd allow a man to stop off for a quick one on route! Although I'm sure that they weren't made over years of reasearch just for that reason! :))

    Excellent work there!

DG, I'm loving the heel, any clues as to it's makeup etc? Also the large homer, if you frame by frame the scenes at Stoke Poges you can see that on one side there is a bolt head, dead centre of the unit. Not sure if prop makers don't include this aesthetically or if nobody's ever noticed it. Or am I just too anal?

No G Meister, u are not too anal...I see it too..or is it we are both too a....? Perish the thought!

    1. But the "bolt head" appears closer to one end - its not in the middle. You can see it better in Q's lab scenes where Q primes it. I have speculated that it might be the piece that holds the magnet ???

    2. The other detail never mentioned but is there if you look hard enough appears on the large homers sliding mechanism. Most see the diagonal edge of the "slider" but look again and you see a vertical edge that leads on from the diagonal. You see this in the lab scenes and also at Stoke Poges. In the lab, you see it on the top, at Stoke Poges you see it on the bottom...so it acts as a "brake stop" to the slider as it completes the priming action.

    3. The 3rd detail is that on the top surface, there is a line or cut on the RHS top surface when Q primes the homer in the lab. As Bond holds it near the Aston, slow mo seems to reveal this section appears to slide out as the homers edges do not appear straight ???

    That's all folks :)

I'd just like to point out that the original homer's build quality was shockingly terrible. :o

The 'bolt head' you guys are refering to is (as far as I understand it) is actually the other end of the bolt. Ya see, from what I can make out, the Homer's 'bottom' (the side opposite the slide) is hollow with a bottom plate fitted to cover the cavity. The top slide is put in place, then a bolt threaded into it from inside the homer, then the bottom plate put in place to cover the cavity over.

So that 'bolt head' you see is just the shaft of the bolt filed down flush with the surface of the top slide.

So with all that in mind, the 'bolt head' isn't there for looks, its there cos without it, the top slide would simply come off.

Unless of course, you build your top slide as a 'T' slot configuration, in which case the bolt would simply act as a way of stopping the top slide coming straight off when you action it.

    Hope this helps guys.

    Very Nice DG,

i will agree, the shoe heel is a nice example of the mini homer since it's gold plated, i almost had the nerve to fit the heel to to my shoe, but at the end i didn't.

interesting though all the mini homers have the same L shape cut, Only Ken had the mini homer with a slope on the homer like it's bigger brother. i often wonder if he made it or had someone else make it, because just reviewing the movie i can see that the mini homer has a slope when the bar is pulled back.

Yep, I think you're right. He's the only one that ever had the accurate sloped shape. The shoe heel is a fantastic piece, I could not pass it up when it was available from the Italian prop maker. I thought about fitting it to my shoe too, great minds think alike.
