Recommend a mobile (cell) phone

My knackered old Nokia packed up after maybe 8 years. So I buy a cheap new one, Nokia 2330. Looks great in the shop. Got it home, made a call. The sound is cheap, tinny, nasty. So I'm looking for a new one - but all the reviews say as many bad things as good. Even some flash Sony Ericsson with 5MP camera.

Any ideas? Less than £200 I suppose.

Well I highly recommend the Sony Ericsson w705 - I've had mine for almost a year and it is GREAT - even tried to defect to an i-phone, but hated it, and loved going back to the SE.

It is a slide phone, which gives a really good screen size - I've managed to go on line with it, to AJB and it's big enough - although the touch screen phones are more geared up for this. The keys are a good size, but are flush, unlike older models where the keys are slightly raised. It took a while for me to get used to this.

I suppose it depends what you want the phone to do... I haven't used the walkman feature on this at all - but I love the way it has 'conversation' style texting - basically lays out both sides of the conversation in one stream, rather than sent messages, and Inbox messages.

The camera is 3.2 mega pixel, which for phone camera's is not as high as some, but they are great quality, and when I print out pictures on the computer people are surprised when I've said that they were taken with my phone. The Software suite that comes with it, is also really easy to use, and transferring files from your phone - computer is really easy, and visa versa.

Not sure how much memory it has, but I haven't had to delete any txt messages - like you had to do with older phones - plus the video feature is also great.

To buy this new, you're looking at about £140 - £180 (I think....) depends which network you're with, I take it you don't have a contract? But you might want to look on e-bay - these are being sold for around £100 mark (used)

I recommend any in the Verizon LG EnV series. I've got the EnV 2, and it hasn't failed me in almost 3 years (mom made me upgrade my phone).

I'm pretty sure it can hold music (but i have an itouch for that), has a full texting keyboard, great sound quality, a decent camera/video camera and internet capabilities. For texting, you can either use the number pad or open it for the full keyboard.

my favorite feature is the V Cast music identifier. just open the application, hold the phone near a speaker for like, 10 seconds, and it'll identify that song for you!

I don't remember how much it cost, but it can't have been too much 'cause mom (yes, I'm 21, but she still pays for things like this :x ) didn't throw a fit when I showed it to her haha

best of luck in your search!

    Hi Napoleon P,

I recommend this website! - It was via research following their reviews that I got my last two mobiles! (Pay as go, as well as my main contract phone, bought from Orange)

Pendraggon is right on LG they seem to do cracking phones, a mate of mine has an LG Cookie. A different friend let me have a play with their Samsung Tocco, as I was curious about its touchscreen tech, which I was wary of. - The end result was I got myself the Samsung 5600, and (fingers crossed) it has never let me down!

Word to the wise do NOT use Carphone Warehouse! - For anything!

I've had a blackberry storm for almost a year now and I really like it. Good phone, great for email and texting, good internet browser. I put all my music on it, it has applications like the iphone (but not as many as the iphone). I really like it for what its worth.

Thanks for that website Thunderbirds2! It's very useful, however it describes Lexi's recommended phone as a 'lemon'! :D

(Falls about laughing!) - Erm in the end it does come down to personal preference, and unit reliability!

Sorry Lexi, I found it hilarious that Bond's phone is a Sony E, they are becoming the new version of old Phillips in mobile terms.

Napoleon P, - keep me posted, let us know what you get in the end!

Thanks, in the end, thanks to your recommendation I got a Nokia 6303 Classic:

    http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/nokia-6303-classic.htm

So far it's very good, except when er, I left it in the library; luckily someone handed it in! :# It's so slim you can fit it in your trews without noticing it, a problem in that you think you have it on you when you don't.

It's the camera that did it for me, over 3MP and autofocus and flash. Very good for around the £100 mark. That said, after every call and text a flock of honking geese tell me how much credit I have left! And it takes quite a few buttons everytime you want to bung an exclamation mark in a text. But aesthetically it's very good, if not especially masculine.
