Hello everyone,

You have quite a nice forum here.

I am considering the purchase of the so called "montenegro" tie, referring to the tie which is worn by DC on those pictures when he checks in and then meets Mathis (pictures remains property of their owner...)

I read pretty interesting feedback on that forum concerning the offer of Montenegro tie by Magnoli Clothiers.

Here is what I finally found: http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/montenegro-tie-ties-p-285%7B51%7D335.html

Seriously guys, do you really think that this magnolic tie looks like the tie we can see in the movie ? Really ?

Look at the first picture, am I the only one to think it has nothing to do with ?

Neither the pattern, nor colours...

Well, waiting for your comments =]

I have Magnoli's tie and I think the color is off a bit. I don't have the original so what do I know.

    Urhash,

    http://ima.dada.net/image/113056.jpg and http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/montene … 7D335.html

No doubt, they look damn the same.

Regarding http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/pages/CR_0718.htm I still have some doubts... big ones

Never had a problem with the pattern. Having the replica, I don't think his is a dark enough color compared to screen worn. But i don't have the orig, so I'm not saying I am correct.

Keep in mind that lighting & post-production work that is done on the footage can dramatically alter how the tie looks on-screen, as opposed to its real-life counterpart. For example, in these screencaps:

    http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/pages/CR_0717.htm

The Montenegro necktie looks like a simple solid silver tie. You can't even make out the pattern.

Similarly, the Tom Ford "Greene Planet Party" tie from QoS has a pattern of blue & silver diamonds. Yet in the movie, it often looks like a solid blue tie, with little of the silver showing up.

Another example off the top of my head is The Dark Knight, where the Joker's T&A necktie was actually predominantly green, but looks dark brown in the final film.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that all the work that goes into creating a film shot can play with our perception of how something looks onscreen, compared to seeing it in person. Now, I don't have the original Brioni Montenegro tie, so I can't directly compare it to Magnoli's replica (which I do own), but given the photo provided by urhash & the top-notch quality of Magnoli's work, I have no doubt that Magnoli's tie is a perfect replica of the original Brioni one worn in the movie.

Well stated BLU8! And great examples given. I've seen some of the "Dark Knight" costumes in person and can verify what you've stated here.

My experience with Magnoli is that his designs do not come from screen grabs, but rather from original fabric swatches, screen-used items viewed and measured in person, and from first-hand accounts and research. A quick e-mail to Tony will confirm this (if someone hasn't asked him already). As BLU8 so well stated, please do not trust what you see on screen as an accurate representation of how an article of clothing looks in person.

A film goes through quite a laborious process from the time it's exposed in the camera to the time it's projected onto the big screen (and then further transferred to DVD and Blu-Ray and viewed at home). There are many things that can alter the colors that appear on film/television, including the type of filmstock used, lighting equipment and gels, and a post-production process called the Digital Intermediate. The filmmakers have an extreme amount of latitude when it comes to how their finished film will look, and it can be very different than what is actually seen in person on-set.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

I don't think I've ever heard of Magnoli making a tie without having an swatch sample of the actual. I have the Magnoli Montenegro Tie & It matches the photo of Craig that Urhash posted perfectly.

Well there are not samples for everything. Sometimes, members of the forum help him develop ties (ex. Goldeneye tie). The TF harrington matches the color from the swatches, but he doesn't use swatches for EVERYTHING. I remember one of his email. Pictures are good, because anyway, I want what I saw in the post-prod movie.

Right - not all the ties come from swatches. Although to my knowledge the minimum has at least been a very high resolution pic of the tie that can give him a good look at the fabric and the weave (particularly important).

Thanks all for your personal explanations.

I admit I have always been a great fan of ties with little grey/black squares, maybe that's why I wanted DC to wear one of it in Montenegro...

I have Magnoli's Montenegro tie & it is very nice. You will see color variations based on the lighting but, from what I can tell, it's very accurate compared to the original.
